I did not have a good experience working for Dawson wallace.they were very poorly organized ,had no direction or leadership from the top,was very clicky the way daily jobs were performed,then suddenly they would want work completed efficiently and Workers would be threatened , especially new hires were constantly being threatened to be fired for arbitrary things while others who had worked for the company for years would not be reprimanded for incidents or work place habits .management would be out to fire management and were always looking for a new scapegoat.Be careful as a new hire as they will put you in a stressful position with pressure to make an example out of you to long term workers.They promoted younger people with little experience to oversee more experienced workers which resulted in poor judgement and wrong decisions being made. Maybe the job I worked on was just poorly organized with a bad superintendent but it's a reflection of the entire company in my opinion .

No respect given if you are not in their circle. Feels like you are back in highschool and I didnt even do this stuff back in highschool, so immature. Backstabbing and a lot of talking behind peoples backs. Unfortunately it was about 98% of the office who are like that. Other 2% I got along with. Couldn't go to management about any of it because they would just see you as the problem since everyone else has been there 10+ years. Really got me to see what kind of office environment I dont ever want to work in.





Not a good place to work on the operations side.  Micromanaging throughout all levels of the business with little trust and no investment in people insight.  Very toxic attitude from key members of senior management.

As a result DW have not won any significant work in Calgary in a couple of years despite being consistently low on bids. Many bridges burnt over the years resulting in a poor reputation and limited options in the Calgary market.

Recommend avoiding working for or with Dawson Wallace, no need to go with the bottom of the barrel in this market.

Dawson Wallace was a good company to work for in some ways, not so good in other ways. I got to work close to home, near my family and friends and do work I enjoy doing the majority of the time. The down side of working for them, is that their main jobs were warehouses. when the warehouses work ran out, the guys who had been there for less time than the more senior guys got turfed. what do you do, the economy has to slow down some time.

As a journeyman carpenter they have been a extremely good company to work with. They have some really good people in the field and office. Threw the hard times like Covid we have managed to work the whole time. Putting safety measures in place to make sure or people and our trades are as safe as they can be. They are willing to work with their people to get it done.  

Only reason I left was to explore opportunities , and work on projects up north  In the energy industry,, if ever I would choose work at home again in Calgary I would  without a doubt  return to DAWSON & WALLACE : , lucky are the applicacants that get approved to join their team 👍

The owners and staff were great people.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Sometimes lots of projects requiring lots of overtime.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Excellent…support available if requested.

There is extremely high turnover due to zero
culture, zero team approach, no one has your back, safety is non-existent.  Upper management only cares about himself.  There is zero flexibility as a worker and parent.  It felt like jail.
Stay away from this place.

I would not recommend this company for an estimator, PM, PC, finance, or reception.
There is no support from the Principle and he actually judges you if you ask him for support and through a it in your face.  Owners and Subtrades are less willing to work with DW.

Lack of support in all positions
Growth is minimal
Obligated to attend events outside of work hours
Employee mental health and job satisfaction is not on their radar.
