The Pacific site was recently founded and full of people who are stuck in old ways. The run the environmental work like a construction company and there are minimal checks on ny reports and it may take years to get feedback from DND. If you are used to doing environmental work in any sector besides consulting, be prepared to be talked down to or not taken seriously. Much of the work is remediation contracting and handling financials- not in field work like it says in the job posting.

There is no field work involved in this position and I was actively discouraged from doing site visits to better understand the work I ead overseeing. 

The amount of fluff paperwork in their system is outdated and flows poorly. 

You will be more of a financial manager than anything else in this role, and aside from watching presentations on Zoom I received minimal on the job training and did not have supportive management that wanted to help me succeed and grow in this role. 

There is 1 year of probation and you'd better hope you don't have a family member get sick or get sick yourself as management doesn't care and will terminate you without explanation. 

Much of this work will likely be replaced with workflow technology. You will not use your degree on the environmental team- you'll just be basically reading book reports. There was no in field work - just overseeing consultants. This work does not help you maintain a professional designation if you've obtained one before coming into this position. 

Coming from the private world, working at DCC is one of the best things which could happen to me.

Work life balance is given preference which was close to nothing in my previous job.

My colleagues and boss are really supportive; maybe it's just my team but I do see everyone I talk to pretty satisfied with their teams and managers.

Salary is competitive; yes you can make a little more bi-weekly if try hard enough in the private sector but where's the peace of mind?

Health and medical benefits are upto par with reputable companies but the pension plan is unmatchable, no private company can do that.

I do know a few employees who made the move from other government agencies, and according to them the culture in much better. So kudos to that..!!

I would like to stick around if they are willing to keep me. :)

There are many great benefits to working at DCC. The VP team are caring and structured individuals with a true passion for their work and the employees who support the work. 

there are a plethora of benefits for employees including dental, health, mental health, and extras. Employer paid training is available, but sometimes it is hard to take advantage of this as the work is fast paced here. You will need to be on top of your game! You also have the option to work a compressed work week, working an extra half hour each day to get every third Monday or Friday off! And also, of course, there is the awesome pension plan.

The actual people are supportive and management genuinely cares. Sometimes things can get quite busy and the workload is large, but being focal about your struggles goes a long way here.

While I decided working for this company was not for me, it had nothing to do with the management or benefits, but more with wanting to take my career in a different direction.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I really value the flexibility of flex days, the training opportunities that help me grow in my role, and the supportive, collaborative coworkers who make it a great place to work.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part is the uncertainty that can come with tariff changes and the possibility of layoffs.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment is friendly and supportive, with a culture that encourages teamwork and collaboration.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
My day usually includes reviewing priorities, handling my assigned responsibilities, and working with coworkers to make sure everything runs smoothly. The pace is steady, and there’s always support when needed.

The thing I liked most about DGME/DCC is that there was no such thing as a typical day at work.  Every day was different.  Working within a team setting daily problems were always different.  My supervisors allowed me the lateral movement to solve them from using my own imagination.  Management was very supportive and my co-workers and employees were always there to provide any advice when required.  The hardest part of the job was the attempt to get permanent staff.  As a result most of my workers were from temporary agencies and were constantly changing.  The most enjoyable part of the job was that all personnel were considered part of the team.  Even the temporary help were included in social events including Christmas parties.

DCC offers many professionals the chance to learn different aspects of the project life cycle through their service line delivery program. I worked in both the Contract management and project management service lines and found them both beneficial to my career. Working for a crown corporation, you have to deal with office politics and red tape, which can be frustrating. Most of the management is very supportive and help you personnally grow and develop within the company.

Unique company thet performs for a sole client (Department of National Defence), so is unique in may senses.

Opportunities to learn on security and other aspects related with national security.  Strong ethics, and sense of fairnes, honor that provides new and unique approaches to the DCC employees with respect to their jobs.  Very positive.

Management though keep distance between them and project coordinators, prohect manager s and people working onsite.  I believe they shoul work a bit more in imoriving leadership with low level employees.

Defence Construction Canada is a very structured environment that makes learing the required tasks very straight forward.
I worked with some lovely, professional people that made my job very easy.  We worked as a team at all times.
There was a mjor emphasis on healthy living a lots of fun incentives to balance health with your work.
Salary was decent, however, it was the cut backs that caused me to lose my position.

I just want to mention that my rating for the above-named company and as a matter of fact, all companies I worked for, rate the highest.  Every place that I have worked was a productive, learning experience.  Managers, colleagues, partners, volunteers were great people to work with.  I enjoyed every aspect of my work.  There are no boring duties as each task has a purpose.

I started with DCC in 2005 and moved up pretty quickly within the company. The work and work environment are very stimulating and challenging. Since DCC has offices across Canada, the company offers a lot of possibility in terms of jobs opportunities and location.
The benefits are great and the hours reasonable (depending of the time of year and type of project)
