A typical day starts off driving the company van to the warehouse, chat and trade stories with fellow techs as we all take turns getting whatever supplies we need for the day. Then we're off to our respective customers to install their services and/or fix any issues we run into that are work related.

You need to be versatile, a people person, able to lift a 100 lbs ladder and carry it through 3 feet of snow in people's back yards. Being technically capable is very helpful but you will learn most of what you need on the job via other techs during training and on ride alongs. We also pass around information as it is discovered/comes in as fast as we can to help each other out.

It's a lot of hard work, and late nights but it's great helping people.

I work at home from 10am til 2pm and then get back to work from 6pm til 10pm. I receive calls from customers who have technical difficulties and resolve their issues the quickest way possible.

I learned a great deal of Customer Service and Technical aspects of the Internet, Cable, and Telephone services in Canada.

Management is supportive especially to a family man like me.

Co-workers are good people and competitive in a healthy way.

The hardest part of the job is when one receives a call from angry and uncontrollable customers who oftentimes say insulting words and profanity.

The most enjoyable part of the job is when the technical issue is resolved with the utmost satisfaction of the customer. The simplest "thank you" from a customer is music to the ears.

DHT is a company that works exclusively for Rogers Cable.

If you hate Rogers, you won't like it any better working for them. The hours are long (10-12 hours days, usually), the pay sucks (piece work, overworked, underpaid, the majority of your time in the winter is unpaid, get called up and told to stay home), and Rogers is a monstrous monopoly that doesn't give a snuff about it's customers or technicians. Taking your time and doing your job right isn't rewarded. Your truck will break down six times a year. You'll be asked to do -MANY- things for your job that AREN'T PAID.

In summary-- you'd be better off working for Burger King. The pay is better for the time you put in.

If you got no experience the company will provide excellent training, so you feel confident when you go solo. You need to purchase your own tools (about 1k if brand new or 400 if you get a second hand set). The most challenging part of the job is when you need to run aerial lines, but it was fun for me at the same time. You are upgraded to a newer van after about 10-15 weeks. Most dispatchers are really nice people who are willing to provide the support you need, there is just 1 or 2 who are really difficult to work with. Other than that my only real dissapointment is the low wage. You get paid piece work not hourly.  You definitely earned more than minimum wage, depending how fast you work, you'll make from 50k-60k a year.

A typical day at work is started with a friendly greet by your manager, followed by a briefing of the days plans and objectives, concludes with a safety message. this job as taught me the skills to deal with issues when working in public areas independently without supervision. management as away been supportive in term of making sure our job was being done in safe and efficient manner by ensure the tools and training updates are being met. 

Our work place, have a games room where we played table tennis on our recreation  breaks. the hardest part our the job is working in the winter and most enjoyable part of the job is finishing a task and satisfying your client.

Well if you've never had the opportunity to be a Cable TV installation technician you may not quite understand this.

I suppose, as far as the 3 contracting companies I worked for Dependable Home Tech had it's good points.

They did seem to have a good relationship with Rogers Cable so the work we got wasn't too bad.  The slow down in the winter months was still hard to take.  The dominance of a piece rate pay system is what makes a cable tech seem like his mind is in a thousand different places when he's doing a job.

This company has multiple campaigns and I can only speak to the one that I work on. The campaign that I work on, it feels like the company cares nothing about their employees, only about their bottom line. They offer help and expect you to make sure they follow through with it rather than just doing what was offered.

IT WAS KNOWN AS cANCABLE in the hay day the owner was directly involved and had an excellent culture but that all changed and he rewarded key individuals and changed the vision of the company and survived as one of Rogers best partners.   DHT was built on backs of many hardworking individuals - many of whom left due to a shift in HR focus and culture
