Digital Shovel

In my experience, this was a highly stressful workplace with little recognition, and limited opportunities for growth. Employees were often expected to take on additional responsibilities without corresponding support, meaningful performance reviews, or consistent annual pay increases.

The company felt heavily micromanaged, with many decisions requiring CEO involvement. This often created delays, limited autonomy, and made it difficult for managers to lead effectively. Interactions with leadership could feel inconsistent, contributing to a tense and uncertain work environment.

Management often appeared unable to make decisions independently, and communication frequently felt reactive rather than strategic. I also found the HR department to be ineffective in addressing employee concerns or serving as a meaningful resource for staff.

I perceived favoritism in how opportunities and recognition were distributed, which negatively affected morale. Job security and long-term career growth also felt uncertain.

Overall, the company often felt like a poorly coordinated business constantly scrambling to address immediate issues rather than focusing on planning, structure, and employee development.

Pros
The best part of the company is the people. I worked with many talented, hardworking, and supportive colleagues who made difficult days more manageable. In my opinion, the employees are the company's greatest asset.

In Digital shovel, the owner runs the company like a dictatorship, constantly overseeing every aspect of work, which creates a controlling atmosphere. Management, including operational managers and supervisors, mainly relay the owner's instructions without technical expertise, despite receiving six-figure salaries. HR is unresponsive and uninvolved, offering little support or involvement in improving workplace culture. Overall, it’s a frustrating environment with little room for growth or professional development.

 Senior employees mostly just tell you to do what you're told because the boss wants it done that way, without giving you much explanation or support. It feels like there's no room for creativity or input, and the overall atmosphere is pretty negative. There's a lot of favoritism, and new employees don’t feel welcomed. Overall, it’s not a place where you’d expect to grow or feel appreciated.

"In this workplace, adhering to the boss's preferences is crucial, even if you possess more innovative and superior ideas, they are not open to considering them. Individuals in higher positions simply reinforce these rules and emphasize the importance of following instructions, which often leads to many employees choosing to leave. As a manufacturing company, the production rate lacks consistency, frequently resulting in a shortage of parts and consequently rendering the company idle for several months. Surprisingly, even during these periods, additional staff members are hired (a recurring pattern each year). It appears that the HR department recruits new employees, making promises of promotion to their desired career field after the probationary period, but there is no internal hiring process, regardless of how diligently one has worked during that initial period."

I always thought that people that say "I love my job!" were either exaggerating or they're workaholics. 

Shortly after joining Digital Shovel it was astonishing to me that I can actually feel this way about my job and coming to work.

All the people I've met and currently work with are genuinely brilliant, professional, and a joy to be around them both in and out of office.

The company promotes taking on more responsibilities (although not forced) and putting your best effort by rewarding you generously (raises/promotions).

In addition to all that, there are numerous perks. A gym, lunch rooms, parties, snacks, bonuses, budget for anything the employees needs (e.g. machines, components, computers, work-related service subscriptions, and more).

And there are even more things coming along soon.

I highly recommend joining the team and experiencing all this for yourself!

Horrible management. HR and office don't care about shop employees. Paycheques are often messed up and require you to wait the following pay period to have it resolved which often comes with more issues. Supervisors show favoritism to their friends where if you're not part of that clique you will be doing most of if not all the work for the day while they hang out and talk/play on their phones. The shop has more cameras than a prison and you will be watched and written up for the smallest thing unless part of that "clique". Snacks and coffee have been taken away as they cost too much money for the company.

Digital Shovel is a growth driven and collaborative environment where we all can work hard together to grow a individually, as a team and as a company as a whole. We are supported by our leadership group to be able to strive to the next level. With a competitive wage and a great company culture, coming into work doesn't feel like a drag like other companies do. 
I enjoy my team and love my coworkers, never a dull moment!!

I would recommend this workplace . Have the best intentions and do want to discuss issues with the team and work through things as professionally as possible, I only left due to health reasons. Management at the time I was there seemed a bit slow and underdeveloped when it came to giving paperwork on time/ properly but they did display intention to fix this and was gradually doing so.

I currently work at Digital Shovel and it has been an amazing 1 year work experience in this amazing company. The team is very friendly and Scot (owner) is just the best CEO an employee could ask for. Every day is a new challenge and the company give us the opportunity to learn new technology.

I can’t say enough good things about this place if you are look for a productive environment with amazing team around you this is it. You will have the opportunity to learn and gain new skills and experiences. Management is supportive and respectful and has lunches and company gatherings. Also pay is better than most places that are not nearly as rewarding as Digital Shovel.
