There is no typical day, because it will change from day to day based on the weather, the day of the week, the season, holiday, sports events, and any number of other factors. There is also the matter of which shift it is, because the evening rush is, as expected, more busy than the opening/preparing shift. I typically work opening shifts, which means I am responsible for the entire store, whether it is quiet for hours at a time, or if it is so busy that I don't get to sit down for eight hours. The tasks for the opening shift remain the same however. Prepare enough food for the anticipated sales of the evening shift, and make sure the driver completes all of their chores and tasks as well. If, for whatever reason, the driver is unable to complete their tasks, I take it upon myself to make up for it so the job gets done in time for the dinner rush.

I have learned to take on a leadership role from this job. I have also learned time management, and responsibility for both myself and others working with me. During these shifts, I take on the role of manager, so all decisions fall to me, and it becomes my job to handle any tough situations that may occur. At these times, I will work together with the driver to come up with the best decision, based on what information they can give me about any particular situation.

I usually only work with one person during opening shifts. I trust my driver to make their deliveries as fast as possible, and to help me out if it's needed inside the store. In the same way, I will help them by giving customers an accurate estimate of when to expect their delivery rather than the computer quote. I will also fill in for their tasks, if they are too busy to manage it themselves. For my co-workers during the rush, my managers are hard working, and very fast at their jobs. Other in-store workers vary, based on their time working there and experience. I tend to get along with almost everyone I work with. Otherwise, I form an understanding with them that for the benefit of the company, we must cooperate and act civilly with each other.

The hardest part of the job is the inconsistency with management, and the days when I am on my feet for eight hours with no rest. The most enjoyable part is the freedom to pursue other interests during downtime at the store, when all chores, and tasks are done.

The work day was usually pretty slow, and was consumed mostly with prep work of food items. And because it was day time, and we were not all that busy (except for fridays), the rest of the day was spent cleaning or counting stock.

Although the management needs work. The manager that was hired knows little about the job, and has struggled to learn what is needed for the position. The saving grace is that he is outstanding with customer service, and is an easy and flexible person to work for. The fact that he knew little of the job was because of lack of proper training. He is also left with little to no help from the owner. The owner has a distinct lack of interest of actually running the business, and is frequently out of country with his wife, as he makes his money from real-estate. And when he was there, he made little effort to communicate and associate with his staff. The manager though was a very good man, and I enjoyed working for him, and I already have a job available for me if I ever wish to move back to my hometown.

The work environment was pretty good, and friendly. It wasn't always busy though, which meant that most of the time you had to invent work to do, as for the most part there was a great lack of business.

Co-workers, where great and fun to work with, and when they came in it generally made the work day a lot better. I worked mostly mornings, so I was by myself for the better part of the work day.

The hardest thing about this job was the lack of business, so you had to make your own work, instead of dealing with customers and making product.

Other than the work, the most enjoyable part of the job was working with the people that are there. That's all that really needs to be said about it, it was a great work environment.

If you really want to be a pizza delivery driver, do so with your eyes wide open, especially if you plan on making this a career.  It can be a very difficult way to make a living.  It is best suited to either students looking to earn some money, retired persons, or the desperate.Above all, you will need a good car that is easy on petrol. Yes, you have to pay for your own gas. 

 I am not trying to be obtuse about being desperate.. If you are really, really stuck for money, this is an excellent way to help out; at least as long as the tips are good.

It is a high paced atmosphere . Go away if you are lazy or are a live at home student who thinks the world owes you. You will have to work.  A driver owes that to his or her customer.  If they tip, which they ought to, it is their hard earned money that is going to the driver.

Think hard before you become a driver.  No job that I have ever held holds as many contradictions as this. It  can be so rewarding on one hand and so incredibly frustrating on the other. You rely so much on tips and the hidden costs of working here can be high when you consider  fuel and  that you will have to pay for your uniform, too. And they are not cheap.. So, please if after reading this you fancy a pizza, tip your driver!

Boss was legitimately abusive, called me a f****t multiple times and would scream at his employees in front of customers on a daily basis. He would also make us, usually me, climb ON TOP OF THE 12 FOOT TALL, FULLY HEATED OVEN to clean it, which is almost certainly breaking some kind of law, not to mention the insurance premiums. We were also required to not just place toppings based on a code that consisted of a single letter per topping (which got really fun during a rush, when we had to make literally over a thousand pizzas in under an hour with 3 people total in the store and half of the orders had 10 or more individual toppings), but we also had to "space" them PERFECTLY. If I'm not making myself clear, I'll say it again. The "spacing" needed to be good enough that each individual topping was a perfectly equal distance away from the next, and it needed to all be done within 30 seconds. And if you got it wrong, you'd buy the pizza yourself. This job gave me daily panic attacks, tanked my self-esteem, and paid minimum wage. Oh and the best part of it all was the scheduling. See, we didn't get normal shifts. We were assigned times to come in, and then numbers for the order that we got to leave in. So if you were third to leave, and it was a busy day, you might be there until literally midnight. It happened more times than you would believe. And because there was no set schedule, we didn't even get f***ing overtime. I quit after 8 months and never looked back. Best decision I ever made.

Unless you enjoy the feeling of working in a pizza sweatshop, avoid this employer like the plague.

A rather toxic and high-school-esque work environment with incompetent managers for the most part (a few exceptions).  Labor and OH&S laws are scoffed at and routinely ignored. Food permit expired?  No problem, they just let it lapse and keep on zinging pies out the door.  Fire exit at Lancaster location frequently blocked by discarded boxes and dough trays - granted, the store design is horrible.  The downtown location has their main electrical panel with no cover on it - anyone who happens to trip while reaching for unfolded boxes is at risk for contacting live wires.  No hair nets worn by longer-haired persons at the assembly table.  Drivers are frequently angry and bitter about "low tip" deliveries which only adds to the overall hostility of the environment.

Management seems to consist largely of people who are buddies with the owner and not based on experience or people skills.

For drivers, the Interact debit/credit machines frequently malfunction and so sometimes you're at a customer's door while they try and fail to pay for the order, which leads to complications where you are forced to leave the order with the customer while heading back to the store to swap out machines and hope they bother to answer when you return...

Drama abounds which is due in part to a high number of teenaged employees.

One person who worked/works here deals illicit drugs out the back door to said teenaged employees at 2:30 in the morning on Friday and Saturday nights and also delivers pizzas with a marijuana blunt in his mouth.  Lit, of course.

If you like drama, immaturity and thrive in a toxic and hostile work environment, Dominos Pizza in Red Deer is the place for you.

Typical Day at Domino's.  

I get to work and some days are busy then others.  When the store is busy I am on the road driving a lot.  I really like when the store is busy because then I am busy and the night goes fast.  When the deliveries slow down I am either helping with dishes or cleaning the store. 

I have worked for Domino's Pizza for almost two months now and I learned a lot about how to run a pizza store.  I learned how to answer the phones and take peoples orders and use the computer system we have.

At Domino's Pizza the management is awesome.  The father and son that own the Domino's Pizza, I could not ask for two better bosses.

My Co Workers are very nice, very helpful and very team oriented.  All the workers together to get the job done.

The hardest part of the job I would have to say is that on a Friday night when we are so busy with deliveries and we don't have enough mobile debit machines and run out of hot bags to keep the food items warm and we have to make the deliveries but we have to wait for these items and we cant get to the customer in time and we cannot meet our 15 minute or less delivery time.  I want to keep our customers happy,.

The most enjoyable part of my job is the people I work with everyone works as a team to get the job done and meet the customer needs.  I also enjoy driving because I get to meet the customers and know that they are very happy with our product and delivery service.  I enjoy seeing a happy customer and knowing that we made them happy and gave them a very good experience and they will come back to Domino's in the future.

Once you have a shift you tend to keep it which is good. But if you ever need that day off no matter how much advance notice you give you are on your own to cover it. Some shifts that's require a bit of extra work like sweeping or dishes such as a closing shift no one will ever take so you will never get that day off. 
People tend to be very greedy with what they take, no one to tell because no one cares really. Just a very poor culture, changed a lot from a year or 2 ago. In an attempt to save money from the increase in minimum wage drivers so a lot of the chores that are assigned to inside staff because drives still make $6 or $7 per hour depending on experience. So there is now way too many devices for deliveries so they will have more time to do insider jobs. But they end up not making much money. So a lot quit but anyone with a car gets hired so they are all easily replaced. No care is given to familiarity with the area, or customers relationships with the drivers. You will be insignificant in the company. So good starting place to see what the job is like but no need to feel loyal to the brand because there is no loyalty coming back to you. 
Also free small pizza tonopening and closing drivers was discontinued in another attempt to save money. So for working a 9 hour shift you get nothing from eat and no break for eating unless you just take it upon yourself to grab something. But you are always being timed so don't take too long.

Worked for 6 months as a Domino's delivery driver.
Mileage allowance is poor - 80p per delivery no matter where you go, often  journeys were a 14 mile round trip so some nights you ended up spending more on fuel than you earned back in fuel allowance. Not to mention the wear and tear on your own car.

No guarantee of hours - some nights you would turn up and have to basically beg management to not send you home after one hour.

No respect from management - would quite happily take hours from you to give to someone else despite having previously put in full-time hours and worked hard to do more for the store. I often put in extra time to help out and would then have hours taken off me later on. No consistency.

No real perks - discount doesn't work out any cheaper than ordering a regular deal as you can't take discount on any offers, only on full price products. And no, you don't get freebies!

Never received my proper allocated breaks. If a delivery was there I had to take it regardless. So some days (if you managed to get the hours, that is) you would end up on a long day with no break at all.

Also if someone doesn't pay you right on the door when you deliver, responsibility falls to you as the driver and you have to pay it. Obviously you check the money at the door, but if someone is threatening and refuses to pay or disputes the amount and slams the door on you, there's not a lot you can do. Makes you feel very unsupported as a driver!

Working at Domino's required working at a fast pace and being on task most of the time. Messing up and not paying attention to little details could mess up a lot of things! It was important all co-workers communicated with each other which helped for efficiency. Every employee is trained to do everything that could be done in the store, which could involve answering the phones and taking orders or questions, serving customers, handling money and cash register, food prep, doing the labels, folding the boxes, making the food products, sweeping the floors, washing the dishes, etc. When it gets busy we all usually know our duties and work fast and hard. I will usually stand up front and take customers orders and answer phones and put the labels on the pizza boxes and keep track of when orders are ready on the heating rack and bring them to the customers. When that is handled I will help out with the pizza making. When it is not busy I will look tasks that could be done, such a tidy up the make-line, restock the toppings, sweep the floors, or wash any dishes. When things are calm I luckily have friendly co-workers who are enjoyable to talk to. The hardest part of the job can be all the stress when it gets very busy and I am more likely to mess up on a simple task, but I find that does not happen very often. The most enjoyable part of this job is being around people and getting to know regular customers.

being a delivery driver invloved taking orders out for delivery as well as every other task in the store. you start at $15/hour plus tips you make on deliveries. on an average night i’d make $40-$50 in tips, on friday and saturday nights you can easily make $150+ in tips if you’re a people person and get the delivery to the customer quick. if your car isn’t good on gas don’t waste your time but if you have a reliable and fuel efficient vehicle you can make a pretty decent profit. typical day for a full time driver would usually start at rather 11am for opening drivers or 5pm for closing drivers. part time drivers usually worked 4pm-8pm and sometimes later on busy nights. high turn over rate for drivers as you would see a new employee or two almost every week. when requesting time off make sure you ask FAR in advance and keep reminding the managers that you requested time off or they’ll forget and schedule you anyways. there’s ups and downs to this job as there is at any workplace. hardest part of the job was dealing with rude customers, but the nice customers can make your whole shift. never a dull moment working with the public and each shift was something different. i’ve met some interesting people delivering pizza and have seen some questionable things haha. all in all this job would be best as a part time job for a student or just a side job to do on the weekends for extra $$$
