e4c may appear to be good on the surface, and as a manager I would have initially agreed, especially when you think about how large the organization is, but don't be mistaken, this couldn't be further from the truth. The organization is riddled with poor communication from the very top all the way down to the front line staff. Gossip, favoritism, and nepotism are very clear to everyone below management. The organization will wrongfully terminate people, something that has gotten them in trouble before, and have educational requirements of front line staff that not even directors are required to meet. There is zero support from supervisors, and even when you tell them you feel unsupported, there is no accountability and it's somehow turned into 'you didn't do something right'. Managers are required to be on-call with no overtime and not compensation for it. If you do anything less than exceeding what you're contracted to do, you're looked at as a subpar staff. I constantly felt my mental health was negatively affected by how this organization approached many situations. For your own well-being, I do not recommend working here.

This place has a terrible reputation so talk to people who have worked there before taking a job. Many former staff have to do intensive therapy to feel ok after leaving because of upper management. Even after you leave they will still drag you indefinitely. The turnover from terminations is intense. There is excessive victim-blaming, no way to safely file grievances, whistle-blow, or alert the board to what is happening, and lots of gossip from upper management. There is a lot of staff harm that happens and is justified when people attempt to address it in even the most kind and generous ways. They protect power and privilege at all costs. You could be that cost if you think you deserve fair treatment and try to assert your rights or more likely are in a position to request being treated with dignity. The executives are known to instigate this toxicity, exploiting cheap labor with increasingly lower wages. The finances are a big question mark. This is a place to enjoy the bare minimum, a questionable practice of employment standards, and feel confused about why you are asked to give more care than you will ever receive. Too bad you won't be able to afford a lawyer. 

This Company continues to hire senior leaders that aren't willing to do anything to learn about the programs and the staff who make the programs run effectively. There is no presence of CEO and upper management within the facilities they run and no care about the workers. Program managers and their teams are there because of their passion to help others - not the money because there is none to be made. There is no feeling of security here.

They continue to add more upper management - taking away money that should be used for program improvements and staff who haven't had any increases for two and more years. There is no staff appreciation and morale is bad if you have any exposure to upper management. Staff who do not have to directly deal with upper management are protected which is good, but how long before the good leaders are all gone. They can't keep staff because they have zero appreciation for them and that should be a red flag to the board of directors. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
The best part of the job is working with the kids. It is really rewarding to work with low-income families.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Workload is high, while support and pay are low.
Management loves to make promises that they never keep. There is high turnover and burnout due to a lack of support. There is no room to grow here, as they do not like to promote internally, and you are likely to go years without a pay raise, yet the workload keeps increasing. Some of the clients we serve make more money than we do.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Fast-paced work environment when in the classroom. Colleagues are great to work with for the most part, but EAs and teachers are often undervalued and are not treated like professionals and experts in education and the children we work with every day.

a typical day at work, was finding a balance between youth needs and unrealistic management expectations that both contradicted each other. when challenges arouse i was met with a screaming manager who threw paper and swore at me at 8am. When concerns were brought up to human resources, i was told to find a solution on my own. Management was lazy and prioritized a lazy day rather than dealing with problems that made it unbearable for staff to feel safe. Management over looked work place harassment, bullying and violence between staff/employees. its unimaginable to think this is a non for profit that "values" and "prioritizes" mental health. the most enjoyable part about working for this social enterprise was ignoring the toxic behaviour from management and prioritizing the youths needs and watching them flourish in an environment i couldn't. 

Coming into the job after seeing many negative reviews on how poor management and high turnover rates had me skeptical to begin with, but working there brings an all-new perspective to this.
The service users: absolutely amazing. The relationships you can build with clients and seeing them succeed is the highlight of this job.
Management: Very poor at communicating, makes straight-up lies and false promises to front-line staff and service users. Do not follow company values of approaching situations with trauma-informed care. Do not follow harm reduction policies. No real training is offered to new staff. 
Co-workers: It is clear that most staff feel that management does not appreciate or care about them. 


I had a good experience working in the youth group homes. The kids were good, I felt supported by my co-workers. My manager was extremely understanding and accommodating as well. 

My problem lies with the organization as a whole. They pay one of the lowest wages for such a large organization and there is no room for raises, or advancement. If you take on another position the biggest raise you'll get is maybe 50 cents for 3x the amount of work. They also require you to have things to get the job but then won't reimburse you for it. At e4c I really felt like just a number on a spread sheet. If it weren't for my direct supervisor I wouldn't have stayed for so long.

I love my job at weac. But I didn’t like the new director. I don’t think she doesn’t realize how much stress this job really is. If you want to be a director of a company at least try to understand your coworkers and get to know the ladies that actually enter that building. If you don’t have the knowledge than why be there. I was fine before the new director decided to come to try to think she knew what she was doing. I never once had a issues with any directors in the past years I was there. If she isn’t qualified for this job why take it. I do believe in change  and I don’t think this should of happened to me or anybody else in that matter.

At the beginning of the pandemic, my house's management took the pandemic very seriously, enforcing regulations regarding essential outings, isolation. We had a change in management, and they prioritized resident's feelings and comfort over the safety of residents, and staff. Residents were allowed to go in and out as much as they wanted, were told they could go home for Christmas and residents took lead from management that told them they could do things that new laws were prohibiting, and had no consequences in place. I have a lung condition, as does one of my parents, and I felt scared and unsafe going to work because of this.

This agency has amazing programs to support community needs. Management doesn’t get involved or support, uses the excuse “I’ll leave it to you as you are the experts”! Managers need to learn the foundation in order to support and understand the needs of supervisors.  Don’t follow philosophy of agency of supporting people where they are in their journey. External hires instead of promoting within the department. Executive needs to wonder why the large amount of staff turnaround in the agency as a whole.
