I worked at Ecco as my first retail job. Working in a shoe store is easy, the most difficult part of the job is dealing with needy customers and climbing ladders to get the shoes if it’s up high. I was able to grow from part time sales to assistant store manager. When I first started working here the management was great, the team truly felt like a family. When I became assistant manager, the manager’s true colours started to show. I did most of his work when he should’ve been taking on more tasks. Then he moved companies he took some of the best employees with him. We then got a new store manager and she was terrible to work with. The Regional Manager was also terrible, head office was a mess at the time. The pay was low but there were benefits which is a plus. Another plus is that there were free pair of shoes for each new season. The con is that most of the shoes are ugly and are catered for an older crowd. You can’t get style and comfort unfortunately. If you’re a student and want a part time job, this is a good place to work but if you’re interested in growing within the company, then I won’t recommend it.

I've worked for this company 4 years and have nothing but good things to say.  Yes, there's the usual bumps and problems that beset every company.  But overall, it has been a very positive experience.  The culture is strong and the support from regional manager and senior management has always been there.  

Is it perfect?  Of course not.  But comparing it to many other companies that I had worked before, this ranks among the top.  People feel disgruntled and voice their unhappiness only because their work performance was not up to par, and do not like to be held accountable.  How many companies actually send their top 2 managers to Denmark every year to reward for their performance?  This is a company that is growing but willing to learn and change for the better.  For those who expect everything to be perfect, then this is not the place for you.  For those that are willing to challenge themselves and go with the flow, then I say, come on board!  You'll never regret!

Decision making people are stuck to the head office for about 20 years! They’re milking Ecco and don’t care about the future of the company or the associates at all. Salaries are truly garbage and no one got a raise for more than 18 months that I worked there! You’ve to work as a receiver, packer, sales person, manager, cleaner and cashier. Head office has couple of favourite people in the stores all across Canada and that’s it. They don’t care about others at all. There is no commission for the sales persons so they don’t care about making the budget at all. There is a bonus structure for the managers only and as head office people are so cheap, they divided the year into two 6 months so for 6 mo the they fully merchandise the full price stores and the other 6 months is for outlets. So they not gonna pay bonus to the managers of all of the locations for the whole year. After one and a half year I’m telling you to run! Do not apply for Ecco ever

ECCO Shoes was a wonderful place to work, with a family environment.

A very small marketing team allowed me to gain experience and perfect my skills in many facets of marketing, even going outside my role and taking on projects and tasks of the Senior Marketing Manager to further my learning. With a lean team it was a must to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, both short and long term with precision and always be prepared for the unexpected projects that arise from working in a fast paced retail environment.

Senior management was always opened to experimentation and cross-functional teams often worked together to colloborate on projects and share expertise to perfect a project resulting in favourable and rewarding results.

Ecco's minimum start pay for it's retail employees is above minimum wage. Working in their stores is extremely fast paced during the busy seasons and extremely dead the rest of the year and super stressful. I would not recommend this position have anxiety or want to have an active social life. It will require you to work every weekend and every holiday (except Christmas). There was no room for growth/advancement and that was frustrating after putting in many years of hard work and sacrificing time with family and friends. They even took away employees in-store discount. But the pay was good and the having benefits as a part time employee is rare these days.

Very short paid leave of 2 weeks. You earn those hours by working basically towards it. Cannot bank them for next year. 
Salary is low and work load more than expected from you.
 Head office not organized at all, no proper stock management, work on really old system, high and unrealistic targets set (100% higher than LY sales), and no proper stock provided.
Head Office is very unorganized, it seems they hardly communicate with each other. Poor communication at all levels. 
Usually 4 to 6 weeks behind competition, difficult to sell sandals when customers are looking for winter boots that arrive 4 weeks after the first snowfall and vice-versa. 
The district manager hardly shows up at store and gives you any support. 


When I started working here I loved it. It was very much a family environment where even though it's commission based people would help each other make their goals. 
Now however the company has gone through a series of changes, the system we use doesn't work half the time, management doesn't listen to the needs of the individuals, and people who have worked there for years in management positions are being forced to either take major demotions or leave the company so that people in head office can bring in their friends instead. 
I stand by Ecco as a brand, I will probably buy our shoes the rest of my life, however I would never recommend that someone work for the company as I feel that the current higher ups in the company no longer care for the safety and wellbeing of their staff.

If you are willing to work 7 days-  this job for you! Great product - poor management ( head office) . Ecco doesn’t have strong managers in Canada only me 2-3 overall. Managers set unrealistic goals to achieve. Always missed opportunities to sell as warehouse shipments are late every time . Some managers have no idea about the system and they work here for a while. Head office doesn’t know what they are doing . Not surprised why all their managers keep leaving every year. No support from managers even between them, only 1 manager helped everyone and everywhere ( including DSM) . Even she left. 
Great thing is that I found friends here. 

It's like any good retail job but with amazing benefits for even some part timers! Ecco's minimum start pay for it's retail employees is above minimum wage. But the pay was good and the staff are nice.

I enjoyed working with people, especially when I was able to assist them and put a smile on their face.
 Selling Ecco shoes was easy because it is a great product. When you believe in the product and have a passion for it You are able to inform the customer and meet their needs.
I learned it is better to be honest when asked for an opinion on footwear that to make the sale because people value honesty and will always return.
I enjoyed seeing return customers that had great things to say about the product.
