ELMWOOD RESIDENCES

At Elmwood, there is a great team on the floor and the residents are wonderful. However, such high turnover due to appalling management. Extremely unprofessional and unapproachable, NOT supportive at all! They have no interest to hear concerns from front line staff, they will just FIRE you for no just cause. They dont care about how short the staff are on a daily basis, just keeping hiring more upper management instead of even trying to fill front line positions. Save your self the exhaustion of burn out and the frustration of not being supported, DO NOT work here!!

I was supporting adults with disabilities in various group homes throughout Saskatoon. I thoroughly enjoyed building connections with people each day. I was able to learn various skills in crisis management, relationship building, reporting, and communication.
Each day was unpredictable and new. I enjoyed accompanying and assisting residents through activities of daily life. This included recreational outings, appointments, and various aspects of personal care.

What is the best part of working at the company?
It gave one room to have general knowledge of care work .

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The workers don't know how to work as a team.  This makes most of the workers to always look out for fault among the workers 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Not too friendly.  Too conservative as they deliver their duties. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Not being sure of the challenges that would be faced in the office.

A typical work day would start by getting the residents bathed, dressed and fed before they go to work or school.I would also administer the proper medications and do personal care if needed.  Depending on the resident this could be a great time of day or the worst due to behaviour challenges. 
On the weekend the staff would organize activities and social events for the residents.

I worked at Elmwood for almost two years; I was fired without cause. I was never given feedback about my work, brought into the office, or had a meeting with any supervisors or management. I highly recommend applying elsewhere as Elmwood claims to have a supportive mental health environment, but they do not support their staff's mental health at all. Considering there was no explanation about my termination, I hold a strong belief this company will do this again to other employees.

This company cares little about staff. They preach mental health but will fire people who speak up with mental health issues. There is a union which takes too long to deal with issues so no one reports anything. Working here will slowly steal your soul between Poor rotations and discrimination. Always record your calls! 
The residents are great watch out for manager and HR Staff.

I Dont think there is any stressful part I can think of

The work environment is very convenient and culture is very good 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
The typical day like is good for me

Management first ,Residents and employees last ,  not a recommended place to work unless you want to burn out. Lots of fun to work around and for the residents for sure ,i guess since the management has changed the whole fun of working for this company has took a turn backwards ,all I hear at work is negative about the management 

Elmwood is a large CBO in Saskatoon and operates a variety of programs to meet the needs of individuals living with intellectual
disabilities. 

My experience with Elmwood has been positive and supportive, despite trying times through the pandemic. There is a significant focus on the future and on Elmwood’s Resident First Approach.

Very high turnover due to awful management. They keep on creating management jobs while the floor is always in need of support staff. Some support staff have been experiencing occupational burnout. They are not upfront with the transition that's happening to some of the newly hired staff. They create policies without considering the people involved.
