Please apply for any position except for the Contact Center, especially RRO or HAT (Encor by EPCOR). Pay is decent for the job, but also the work is very stressful and not worth the hassle at all. You definitely will go crazy if you work more than 30 hours/week, and you are the lowest minions of this company. I cried 5 times within 2 months when I first started on the floor, and sometimes I still break down and cry in the morning before going to work. Up until now I have been feeling like I'd rather to jump off from their building than going to the queue, so I had to send in the resignation letter to release myself from this nightmare. 

The queue has been extremely crazy this year due to the ridiculous raise in regulated electricity rate so you will get a lot more of angry customers, and the management is such a very selfish joke, well, at least my manager and my team lead are both kind of new to their positions so I am not sure if the others are better. Upper management will act like they care about agents but in fact they do not appreciate you at all. Everything is about business; you will get constant unnecessary stress from them about your STAT report. Do not believe what they tell you about as long as you are doing your best because your report is the most important thing. They will remind you that they understand it is a difficult time for us, encourage agents to take time with customer and suggest you to take mindful moments between each call just to swipe away our frustration when we bring it up, but they calculate every single minute in the average handle time report, the report will put you in a rank and will affect your schedule time, work from home application and even performance review if you want to apply for another position. They are not your friends, so do not trust them when they act like one and tell you to express everything as it's more harm than good interest. 

Another thing to pay focus on is post call surveys, you do not have any control over that at all but if the customer waits for so long on the queue, or doesn't like what you're telling them, or does not response and you need to end the call, you'll receive a low score from them and that's still your fault, and yes, the management will harass you for that. They keep telling you to use empathy statements while they are the ones keep treating you like a robot. They will say they take feedback and ideas seriously, but they mostly will not bother with them so do not get your hope too high.

The good thing is you can complain about this with your co-workers because they experience those as well but we all need to keep our mouths shut, so I guess you can relieve yourself a bit during the day and come crying again the next day.

What is the best part of working at the company?
They are genuinely concerned with employee health and safety as it is taken very seriously.  They also promote employee engagement, they will help you move toward whatever career ambitions you have, great pay and excellent benefits.  The only downside side I feel is sometimes you can feel expendable (a small guy working in a large corporation).  I worked for the company for 3 years trying to get on permanent full time but they had other plans at the local worksite first before filling permanent.  I had to eventually moved on so I could support my family.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Epcor pays well and provides excellent benefits but they also set high expectations of their employees.  They set the bar high but you are rewarded for your hard work.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
They foster a team environment with heavy emphasis on health and safety, and employee production.  You are held accountable for your mistakes.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Show up for work in a secure area (don't forget your employee work badge so you can scan in!), work hard, they provide coffee machines and a clean, safe workplace.  They provide a lot for emoyees but also expect at lot from you.  Sometimes you miss breaks on those busy days.

In my experience, senior HSE leadership has created a toxic and demoralizing work environment. While they frequently speak about psychological safety, employees who raise concerns, challenge decisions, or provide honest feedback often feel targeted, excluded, or pushed out. Expectations continue to increase with little direction, support, or recognition, and concerns about workload, fairness, and compensation are routinely ignored. There is a strong perception that employees are expected to stay quiet and simply accept decisions without question. Morale is extremely low, trust in leadership is lacking, and there has been frequent discussion among advisors about leaving the organization because of leadership practices and the culture they have created. This was one of the most disappointing leadership environments I have experienced, marked by poor communication, lack of accountability, and a disconnect between stated values and actual behaviour.

EPCOR is a extraordinary organization. The business has a robust and comprehensive set of standards for their agents which are consistently presented as part of the businesses core beliefs. Their engagement within the community is strong and the business itself is structured to care about how it does business.
However, the business is held back by a lack of engagement from the management team on what is truly meant by the policies that exist within the business. It is one thing to have a policy in place within a business; it is another to act based on that policy.
The expectations for the roles are aligned with the overall attitude of the organization, which is to say that the business conducts itself like the quasi governmental agency that it is. For some this will be a great fit, for others it will not. Be forewarned, the business does not want employees who challenge the status quo, but rather employees that follow the rules and don't question how the business conducts itself.

EPCOR has been a great place to work so far. The work culture is relaxed but productive, and there’s a strong emphasis on work-life balance, which is refreshing. I’ve found the team to be very supportive — coworkers across departments are willing to help, and management has been understanding as I’ve learned my role.

The compensation is competitive, and the benefits package is solid, including a pension plan. There are also opportunities for professional development, such as taking courses and expanding your skills.

One challenge I’ve noticed is the strict work hours, which might not be ideal for everyone. It also takes some time to figure out who all the key players are in different projects, but that gets easier with time.

Overall, I’d definitely recommend EPCOR to others. It’s a great environment for anyone looking for a stable, respectful, and growth-oriented workplace.

I worked for Epcor for over 7 years and was a very hard worker who climbed the ladder to a position I was happy and proud of. I had a great manager for about 4-5 years who deserves all the praise in the world. Then management switched and they brought in an exterminator who fired people and forces employees into retirement with no just cause. I never had a verbal or written write up with the company and was a star employee, until one day I was brought into an office and accussed of something that first wasn't true and if it was true could have been a simple written or verbal warning but I was fired on the spot. 
The union helped me get the compensation I deserved after months, but still wouldn't recommend working there now as the management is shady and they expect the upmost of you but don't believe you deserve common decency.

Best job I ever had. The people are great, the company is great, lots of perks to the job, and your always learning. The company supports  personal growth and development and provides all the resources needed to obtain the needed tickets and training for the job, as well as gives every employee an allowance for after hours education. As an operator, I would recommend this company, and say that an operator position here is the cat's a** it's the real macoy. I could go on for a lot longer about the work, the management, the company's growth projects and plans, the opportunities for growth, the opportunities for advancement, the competitive pay scale,     but I'll leave that to you to find out for yourself when you have an interview.

My typical day at work starts with morning stretches, start of day maintenance tasks, projects, mid-day maintenance tasks. Sometimes, there are meetings and trainings within the week. Management is flexible and considerate of personal life. Workplace culture is collaborative, safety-focused and an emphasis on employee health (in all aspects)

Corp has a public image that is not based in reality of the day-to-day.  Directors  and managers run rank with little check from above.  Don't waste your valuable time here, except as a temporary emplacement until you find something better.  You will never know where the knife is coming from until you are up against it.

This company uses the public rate payer to fund it's donor and charity programmes.  The four business units are jealous of each other and internal conflict and jockeying for attention and budgets is rife.  Not the unified front they like to project, and politics are based around personalities and individual agendas, not the company's.

EPCOR deserves all the accolades it receives about how great it is to work for this company. you are always supported and your manager is very easy to speak with and emails are responded to in the same day if not the same hour.

Everyone is professional and the lunch room views are spectacular. The area is a bit sketchy but keep your head up and you will be fine. 

Parking is paid but they have a fantastic location for transit right by the Roger's Place LRT.
