One of the first things I was told after starting work was about how high the turnover rate was and how frequently layoffs happened. If this was contract work or if the pay was high enough to compensate for a potential layoff every 6 months that might have been fine. Upper management seems to only care about short term profits and cannot seem to take accountability or find any solution other than downsizing when things are going poorly.

Fairly safety focused environment with good work life balance. Work stays at work always, and overtime is minimal unless there's a significant amount of urgent orders. Co-workers are alright to work with, competent, but frequently do not make the environment inclusive. Very inconsistent levels of work. Either absolutely nothing to do or just barely enough time to take mandatory breaks during an 8-12 hour shift. Advancement opportunities seemed sparse if there are any at all.

typical day is troubleshooting and quick repair of production line (reducing the downtime as much as possible).
  I have learned very much from jobs,like troubleshooting skills,interpersonal skills,mind-opening skill,maintenance organizing skill.
  Management is how to make a team working together time,cost  efficiently, productively,safely.make everybody willing to dedicate their best to company and wants to stay.not to make a hero or make everybody upset.
  co-worker is around everybody,we can not avoid.you can make good relationship with some people.Learning how to get along with people is an interpersonal skill.That is part of our job.Good interpersonal skill will help us a lot,make our working and life easy.
 The hardest job is some urgent irregular critical job which we have to get it done as soon as possible or some complicated(confusing) job which we have no clue.
  The most enjoyable part of job is we solve a tough problem which come up again and again indefinitely.

I was treated with nothing but disrespect from the time of being hired to the end of my employment with them i feel there was poor treatment for any one of colour regardless of how hard you work they are never happy and because I was trying to transfer into welding due to my red seal ticket the management would give me the hardest jobs in +70c° on my own where the other four shifts had 2-3 people performing the same tasks. Guys literally passing out from heat with convulsions, falling 20’ due to lack of Safty and even seen a mans arm ripped clean off from
Shoulder down and then being laughed at by the foreman has-beens talking about how they did the job too. But we all know they got doctors notes to run and hide because they’re literally only mouth pieces. So In summary the pay hardly compensated for racist workplace bullying that occurred do not work here.

Evraz is a very dirty, loud,  poor working environment with awful air quality and even worse management.  They preach safety when in fact they care about as much about safety as they do their employees.  With the current contract new hires start around $25/hr,  a wage you can quite easily find elsewhere with a lot healthier working environment and not working 12 hour shifts/nights/weekends.   There is really no room for advament , little incentive to work hard and next to nothing for raises,  the moral there is the worst I have seen at any employer in my 15 years in the oil/gas industry.  Save yourself the headache and look for a job with growth potential and room for advancement, a career!

They don't appreciate technical work. Management push employees to do their jobs, especially in maintenance. They don't really care about risk and reliability. What about technical expertise and engineering? They don't really care about them. They say “there is no time, just does that quickly”.  Safety mostly is a show. If there is even an important safety issue but it's not visible, then it is very hard to attract management support for modification or change. They do not care for employees or their safety. Their managerial style is scary. You can see fear in face or behavior of most of employees. They don't like to share information about  their decisions or even present situation. They make lots decisions in short time without explanation, technical or non technical.

This is a busy maintenance department w/ plenty of breakdowns to gain experience at a rapid pace. There’s shutdowns throughout the year when you can make a good chunk of cash and plenty of overtime available if you want it. All that being said it’s also the O&G industry so work has a cyclic nature based on the price of oil. The shift work has its pros and cons but I was tired and run down all the time which was very taxing on my personal health and that of my family. The union has a great contract w/ the company that takes into account the employment  turbulence the industry experiences and rewards you for your continued service. I don’t regret working here and likely would still be if the pandemic didn’t crater the oil industry. 

Evraz is a heavy industry. Formerly Oregon Steel Mills, they make large steel pipe and rolled plate. The company is filled with very good, hard-working people. They have 6 North American sites with roughly 7000 employees. Safety is their #1 priority due to the dangerous nature of their work. Unfortunately, they have lagged in investing in new technologies and as a result are not as effective as they would like to be. I have worked at Evraz since late 2019 and have truly enjoyed the challenges and the people. The plunge in oil, gas, and US manufacturing has been devastating to this company. This is a boom or bust business that does not fit my significant technology background or aspirations

 Site champion and lead for all HS&E requirements between EVRAZ Camrose Works and other third parties.
 Ensuring compliance to occupational health and safety legislation and direct point of contact for Occupational Health & Safety Officers.

I've been here for over 6 years now, a lot of people speak critically of this place but it depends on the department. Most people dont branch off from their entry level positions and ultimately hate their job because its manual labour,  monotonous, your dealing with junior managers who are trying climb the ladder. If you move into a different area it's a far better experience and when you are dealing with senior management they are far more reasonable and respectful. All in all it's really a good place to work, great guys great experience plenty of opportunities as they promote from within. I definitely recommend it to anyone who isnt afraid of hot dirty manual labour. 

You don't need much in the way of qualifications and they pay you decently for being close to town but that's about it. the work is hard and management does little in any way to make it easier for you. production will always come first and if you have to miss your breaks because there's work to do then you'll just have to go hungry. The shifts are sporadic and are not suited to this type of work. It's mostly 2 on 2 off 3 on then reversed but only having a day and a half to switch from days to nights or vise versa is just not enough time so almost all of the staff are visibly over worked or just plain tired. It's a hard job but if you need the money they always have people quitting.
