I have been working with ERS since 2012 and have seen many great changes in that time. This can be a difficulty field to work in but as a private company ERS is always working towards providing their employees with everything they can. We recently received a raise to $23/ hour. They have 24 hour support and work in a collaborative way.

 

Another benefit of this position is the flexibility. Its great being able to schedule my shifts and hours around the youth while considering my availability. Developing a therapeutic plan for the youth could include time in the foster home, community or other supportive environments. I like that I get to be creative in developing a program that doesn’t involve spending money.

 

This is a great position to have as supplemental employment or to use as a stepping stone in your social services career. While I love it here and choose to stay, I have watched one to one to one workers move onto the school board, fire or police department and the Children Aid Societies.

 

I don’t think you will find a more caring company to work for!

I have worked for ERS for several years and have had many positive experiences with the company. The best part as a youth worker is to see the youths grow and develop and being a part of that is very rewarding. You develop relationships with the foster parents and staff and they are very flexible with scheduling which can be handy for people looking for part-time work. There is also paid training offered each month which is a great perk to learn new skills and communicate with staff. 

As a full-time job or as a career opportunity this job falls short. There are no benefits, little room for advancement, and if work isn’t there you simply won’t make much money. Work often includes many personal expenses such as driving long distances and paying for activities out of pocket. 

This company has helpful staff and a caring owner, but it is not reliable income and should only be seen as part-time supplemental income.

I have never before had the privilege of knowing a foster care agency who works as hard as they do to make their foster parents and staff feel supported during the difficult challenges they all inevitably face. 

It is a company that puts the needs of their children and foster parents first well beyond and to the detriment of any kind of profit making...It is headed up by a boss that really cares!

It is an organization that you can be proud to be a part of!

They are as good an any Foster Agency out there! They are spread through out the province so you arent limited geogrpahically speaking. Special needs children can be a higher perdiem. They are not new to this as they have seasoned professionals that work directly with you.

Management needs some training in non-judgmental skills (quick reactions) and I think due to overwork, important details are forgotten but blamed on foster families. As compared to other foster companies, I have preference for this company despite the challenges.  Lots of placement opportunities for sure.  Good training opportunities and fairly regular.

I worked for ERS for 3+ years and it was wonderful. The management team is fantastic, supportive and inclusive. The work environment and atmosphere is unique with so many opportunities of growth within the company. I highly recommend working here if the opportunity presents itself.

Overall different experience working for Eastern Residential. I was working as a caseworker for children in foster home rather than working as a child and youth worker in a group home. I enjoyed my time with this agency immensely.

I love working with others and this opportunity has given me that and more I have meet lot of children and youth and have been able to help them in ways I couldn't of without this company

Fostering agency, so job depends on the kids you have. In the process to changing over to FACS and fostering directly through them. All administrative people at this company work from home and it's very disorganized.

All parties communicate well, the hours are flexible for those who have a busy schedule. Fun and enjoyable. Pay is good, for part time. Opportunities are there with support of fellow coworkers and management.
