This is a great place to get a foot in the door, as they seem like one of the few places that will hire young, relatively inexperienced building operators. With that being said, I don’t get the feeling that this is the best place to grow your career, as they will not offer raises unless you actually change job titles, no matter how long you’ve been working there. Employee retention plan could be better. I’m still in training at our location and am already having to participate in the training of new operators, as the turnover rate is so high. 

Let’s break it into individual star ratings now:

Work/Life Balance (3/5): Scheduales alright, it’s nice only working 8.5hr shifts and not have to work nights. Being on call for more than one location is a giant pain, as you’ll go to the second location once and then be expected to solve major emergency situations there. Could do without the on call, as often you’ll get a call in the middle of the night just to inform you there’s a leaking sink. 

Salary/Benefits (3/5): Salary is decent for a starter job, but like I said, it’s never going to be raised while I work here. I haven’t made use of any of the benefits as of yet, but they appear to be good entry level benefits. 

Job Security/Advancement (3/5): I feel pretty secure in this job, in that I’m not going to get fired anytime soon. Now ADVANCEMENT, that’ll be a no. I feel that the only way I’ll advance in this industry is leaving and working for another company as I don’t want to be making a starter salary for the rest of my life. 

Management (3/5): On-site management is A+, I feel that the supervisor has an excellent outlook for the building. Always willing to go above and beyond to help employees learn and grow as an operator. Overall super awesome. Now office management on the other hand. Corporate seems to lose sight on the day to day of the company. The CEO doesn’t seem to care and/or have time for employees not in upper management. 

Job Culture (4/5): On-Site job culture is great, I very much enjoy coming to work and working with my coworkers. A very laid back space, with the mind set of as long as everything gets done you sure can take an hour long lunch break.

The company shows well during the interview process. Great apparent corporation structure and career development. They give equal opportunity and time to ask the right questions, although the interview questions are a little over played and very similar and drawn out.

Once hired you have an all day orientation that is quite involved and detailed, very professional, and uplifting. A few tests and you are on your way. 

I started out loving my job as a supervisor and could see a long time relationship with the company. However, after some time the truth and complaints came out of the woodwork from employees, rather disgruntled and upset as they felt that they were just a body filling the void and were not appreciated much. "Management doesn't spend time with their employees or care to ask how the week went". Most of the complaints came from long term employees.  

I never knew what this meant until I worked directly with the management team. More often than not you are given weak direction and set up to fail. Most of the management team wears two hats, one of which cannot be trusted.

Edon's track record is weak, lacking team structure and core values for the corporation as this has been going on for years. Most importantly they will not address the "elephant in the room"

Edon is a great stepping stone to gain some experience and strengthen some skillset. In most cases you will realise that your time can be spent somewhere else without the stress & being miserable.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I have worked here for two years now, and have had opportunities to grow within the company. There is a strong community spirit within the teams. Process can sometimes be daunting if not accustom to it, but this is a necessity as Edon holds multiple industry and safety certifications. I have seen a number of ex employees write reviews complaining about lack of support and growth. That's just not true. In a company of 900 employees, sometimes the employee has to make the first move to be heard. Heck, Edon even has an app for people to register their ideas/views, everyone's are reviewed, some even get implemented!  If you are looking for a 'fly by night' or 'fast money company', this is not the place for you. If you are looking for long term balanced employment, with growth opportunity and fair rates of pay....you may want to apply.  

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Edon is a fast moving and growing enterprise! Workload can be heavy at times, but that is also a personal choice through my own career growth.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Work environment is good. Everybody gets to know most people in their office and related field locations. Team culture is great, generally most people in their departments/teams get on very well and we are all try to be supportive of each other.

I have now been for over 13 years with Edon, and a lot off changes have been happening.
Started as Maintenance staff in 2005 and have now been climbing the ladder to Operations Supervisor.
There where a few years which have been tough due to Management not supporting me fully, but that has changed in the last years.
Felt like my potentials and value to company was not viewed in a positive way and started to feel stuck, but Management changes have opened doors for me.
Was very glad this changed and I was given the opportunity to show the company my potentials and drive.
I have been involved with training new employees and guidance which has improved tremendously.
My findings are, that if you willing to put in some hard work and time the company will fully support you and a person should be successful.
My position gives me the challenge and variety needed to keep me busy and happy.
Edon has been the first company which I have been for more then 13 years and planning to continue working for.
Wages are competetive and always paid on time, and lets me effort living comfortable but could use little bumps in salary for employees who put in extra effort and are showing commitment no matter what is thrown at them.

Every day brings something different, which keeps the work interesting. There is a good mix of routine responsibilities, collaboration, and new challenges, so no two days are exactly the same.

I've learned that growth comes from being willing to step outside your comfort zone. Throughout my time at Edon, I've had opportunities to take on new challenges, develop new skills, and gain experience I never expected when I first started.

I've found management to be supportive of new ideas and willing to give people opportunities to grow. If you're willing to take initiative, there are opportunities to contribute beyond your role.

The culture is collaborative and continues to evolve. There is a strong focus on innovation, continuous improvement, and finding better ways to do things.

As with any growing company, priorities can shift quickly, so being adaptable and open to change is important.

The most enjoyable part of the job is knowing your work makes a difference. Whether it's helping teammates, improving processes, or contributing to company goals, it's rewarding to see the impact of your efforts.

Worked at this company for close to 5 years. Started in the central region and ended up at the north region. The company was great when I started there. I enjoyed my coworkers, my managers, the contractors I worked with. I took care of my buildings and my tenants the best I could. 

There seemed to be a change with the culture and the management after a while. The management at the new NAIT contract promoted competition among the building operators. Employees who bullied others were seen as good leaders and were promoted. Edon actually rehired an employee who had dozens of complaints even after many employees brought up their concerns with senior management. 

Aside from this, It is a bearable place to work for power engineers & building operators to get their foot in the door start their careers in building and facility management. Many of the sites have small to medium sized boilers, chillers, air handling units, BMCS systems. The pay is good for trades, not the greatest for building operators. 



Not a great place to work. Drowned in unnecessary paperwork, little to no support from management, expenses constantly, little to no training or direction, difficult to input hours, payroll regularly makes mistakes so you're not always paid correctly, and they look for any opportunity to avoid paying the employee. If given a company van you're expected to pay for the miles driven to and from site, no matter where you are in the city and given no gas card so you must use your own account and it often takes a month or more to be paid back, although you do eventually get paid back. To buy parts for a job is like jumping through poorly managed hoops. No shop to store any extra tools or parts. No overtime pay, if you work OT they bank the time as a regular hour to be used as vacation time later. Most days its difficult to reach your supervisor if you need something.

You are left alone to do the job, little to no micromanagement, the people are all nice but the company is very poorly ran from the very top, expected to go far beyond your regular scope of work for no bonus or compensation. Depending on your role you can usually make your own hours.

for 5 years I worked hard through many changes in management.

At first the company was great though with the change in management the job went downhill.

I covered a number of different areas, worked e ceedingly long hours, did not get a full vacation as I never had coverage so had my phone and or computer with me at all times.

Was not paid or acknowledged or recognised by my managers for the extra work / time I put in. On average working 6 days a week, working from home after hours just to keep up with the demand and not fall behind.

The workload given at the end was too much while trying to cover my workload plus that of a supervisor terminated plus the additional tasks my new boss kept piling on.  There was no way to succeed.

Training is pushed, tslked about but not given on a variety of tasks. 

This company was good but I find the management has gone downhill, does not listen to employees when they are overworked and has no idea what life / work balance is at all.

There is nothing special about Edon Management. It's a rinky-dink type company trying to play in the sandbox with the more distinguished consulting firms. It is ran by a CEO who is not necessarily respected, but is feared making it one of the most awkward workplace cultures I have ever experienced. To make it even more unappealing, there is no actual leadership in the Edmonton PMO. Rather, it's one of the CEO's henchmen quietly keeping tally of your mistakes (zero recognition if you do something positive) and making sure you are towing the company line. Because of its amateur status, projects are of the bottom of the barrel type and offer no real career enhancement. This may be a place to check out if you are just staring out your career and are willing to put up with some of the most irrational clientele out there,  but for the seasoned Project Manager looking to work on fulfilling projects with a reputable organization, avoid it like the plague.
