What is the best part of working at the company?
paid training, commute reimbursement, friendly co-workers.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
difficult/stubborn/rude voters, potentially non-stop 12-hour days.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I found it to be quite calm and friendly, but I worked at a very un-busy voting location. I felt my contribution was valued and I was respected by my co-workers and most voters.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I arrived early in the morning, opened and prepared my computer and the associated programs, Others set up the counting machine, I helped place voting signs, and counted down to opening time. During the day I ran each voter through a routine of confirming information/ inputing information into the database, checking ID, and instructing them on where to go/how to vote. My location had plenty of downtime for visiting with coworkers, reading books and snacking/eating meals, but I know many locations had little to no quiet time at all. At the end of the day we ran a closing routine of recording data, shutting down computers and taking down/bringing in signs. More set up/take down was done on the first and last days.

- Certified managers to help me succeed along my career path

The Easier Parts of the Job:
- Interacting with new customers from all areas and districts of the city
- Meeting other employees from across Alberta at Calgary Co-op

Most Enjoyable Part of the Job:
- Having a healthy work and home balanced relationship with other people

Wish there were more elections 😄 
Set up and management and auditing of all IT for local polling station.  depending on size of election riding, there may be one or more election offices, one or more polling stations X kms apart (more locations closer together in urban cities, less but greater distance in rural ) with voting tabulators all needing network and printer access for staff and polling clerks. pretty independent, but the head office team was very responsive with great training before and at the start of the contract and the other Tech admins in other polling stations can communicate and collaborate.

This job is attained when an election is called. It is very fast paced and very satisfiying to know that you completed all tasks. In the first few days it about setting up the electorial office and getting organized. Then it on to recuiting peoples for the election day itself, sending out ballots for people who want to vote but won't be in town, getting to know  your candidates and organizing the voting stations. This job will usually last only 3 months and is very time consuming if you have a family to take care of.

I worked with a tremendous group of people that made working much more of a pleasure than it should. There’s the engagement of fulfilling your “democratic duty”, but beyond the clichés, your work does feel important and that you’re making an impact. The hours are long, you get the occasional person looking to cause trouble, but otherwise it feels like an incredible chance to meet the community and earn a decent income for such short-term work 

6 weeks out from the election and I still haven’t been paid. After several phone calls inquiring about the status of my cheque, I finally learned today (note- Election Day was April 16) that it had been mailed with the first batch. Lost in the mail. I wish that one of the people I had spoken with earlier in the month had taken my concerns seriously and patched me through to payroll right off the bat, so they could have issued a new cheque. 

The job itself was busy but great. I had a fantastic DRO and RO, so I can’t complain there.

There is nothing stressful about working for Elections Alberta

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very good! The people are all friendly and accommodating. The workplace clean and functional.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Greeting people and ensuring they know where to go.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The other people I worked with were great. Even made some new friends

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Nothing. The team leader was great and the rest of the team was nice to work with

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Good environment and culturally diverse 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Seemed to be a lot of sitting but you could get up and walk around as needed.

This was a one day job. I learned about the inner workings of how an election works. I managed the poll book and list of electors as well as counted ballots at the close of the polls. Co-workers and management were both very knowledgeable and were readily available to answer questions. The hardest part of the job was keeping occupied while the polls were relatively quiet. The most enjoyable part was when a busier time went smoothly.

Met a lot of interesting people.  The training was well planned.  Programs were simple to use.  A lot of thought and time was put into this year's election.  Never a dull moment.  Was very busy.  Long hours but they went by quickly.  Team I worked with were fantatisc.  Learnt alot about the election process.  Have a new respect for the team at Head Office.
