What is the best part of working at the company?
The Kids! The learning! Elves is the best in providing Special Needs Education. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
when I was working at Elves I have an unfair wage for what I do. 16.75-17.5 Cad. I worked almost everyday with short staff and if our room had complete staff they would move one of us to another room. Almost everyday I worked with short staff. Even I was modified work because of an injury due to work I will work with 8-10 students in a medical room (Seizure care and monitoring, trachea suctioning, behavioral & academics activities required for kids) with only 2 staff. I can't get proper lunch. I love working there but it was so stressful. it affects my mental and financial status. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Elves is very strict when it comes to confidentiality of the students and professional with every aspect of providing quality special needs education. The staff were kind but there were workers that were slacking when it comes to work ethics towards other staff but all of the staff were caring and dedicated to the students.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It was busy. I don't know if that is the right word. Everyday was a challenged. Feeding kids, toileting, behavior management, seizure management and physical activities etc.

The management is amazing and will work with you to place you in a classroom best suited for you. The kids are awesome and although it can have it's challenging days, they make it brighter. The pay isn't great. You really need to love doing this type of job. Do to staff shortages, they do get you to fill in when other classrooms are short. Some days it will be one classroom that needs extra help and others it will be a few. They provide ongoing courses to make sure you are upto date with everything needed to be able to take care of the children/adults properly. They are very understanding of family needs. They also have lots of supports for the students but the support staff is always there if you need help (ex. Nurse, social worker, speech language pathologist, occupational therapist). 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Great teams, fast pace, day goes by fast. Staff relations and morality are important to administration

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Come in set up, get kids off bus, toileting, snack, circle time, centers, lunch, break, sensory play, snack, toilet, smartboard/outside/gym.

While I enjoyed supporting and working with the individuals at Elves, I found the conflicting morals within the organization difficult to work alongside. There was inconsistency in hiring support workers who were appropriate for the job, and I felt as if many of the individuals being supported were being left in stagnant situations rather than having their quality of life improved.

This can be a difficult job if you are not comfortable with people with special needs or with the challenges that come with that. Part of this job includes toileting so you will have to deal with human feces and urine.

My usual work day includes preparing daily activities according to the curriculum, preparing snacks and lunches. I also assist children with toileting, feeding tubes, traqueatomy care, exercise, walking, and other cares as needed by the child.

Elves is a good place to work. The clients are fun and coworkers are easy to get along with for them most part. Everyone loves to have a good time even though it’s work. Dress code is super relaxed, which is nice for working with people with disabilities. (Comfort is key!) Pay could be better but that’s not at fault of the company. 

I have a great time working at this program. I have learned the multicultural  work relations and time management. I am grateful for the program to provide a compassionate workplace for a severe special needs and behavior individual to enjoy the program activities as well in the community. 

The workplace culture is positive, everyone was in a good mood and appears to really enjoy their jobs. The children that you get to work with are so sweet and love having you there

I started working with youth and then went to work with children on the Autism Spectrum. Although working with youth was  rewarding I enjoyed working with the kids as it allowed me to use my skills and experience
