Unfortunately, with the recent changing if the reigns at Encana (which WAS desperately needed), company culture and morale have been severely eroded, and in some cases now non-existent (Facilities Engineering - Technical Services, specifically). People are unhappy and simply cash their paycheck with no passion or enthusiasm for the job - which previously existed and oozed everywhere. The only "perk" that keeps people at the company are  the two Fridays off per month. Recruiters and HR personnel actively root out and shred resumes with Encana on them. I am sure Gwyn would be proud to see the ship steered in the right direction, but not at the expense of ripping out its soul. RIP to a once great company.

co-workers worked well together mostly.  one worker would tend to try to take on all new emerging technologies without sharing the workload.  previous management had good control of this.  new manager was not taking charge of group

EnCana was a great company for diversity. As a young engineer you will meet a ton of field and office staff who all have a common goal to produce Oil and Gas economically, safely, and ethically. I learned the basics of almost everything from the reservoir to the sales point with a little more depth in Facilities Engineering and Internal Process Improvement. The culture demanded initiative, collaboration, and drive to succeed. The hardest part of some roles was managing career development with a face paced environment, while other roles it was overcoming personal misconceptions of roles and responsibilities.

The interview process was easy as I was recommended by a few employees before going to the interview. It was relaxed, toured the facility and hired the same day as I met up with the Superintendent. The salary offered to me was more than industry standards. My overall experience with this company was very professional and had opportunity to move up within the company. If it wasn’t for the travel to and from work, having young children at home that needed me as they got older, I would still be there. Upper management treated me very well and I would recommend this company to work for. 

Encana, specifically IS, was a great place to work 4+ years ago. Moral was high, the staff were talented, compensation was good, and it was all about excellence.

Fast forward to 2017 and nearly all of IS has been outsourced and many talented people were let go or left of their own accord. Management has destroyed their reputation's through the advancement of an obvious but never admitted to downsizing over the last 4 years. The opportunities for career advancement dried up and staffing decisions were obviously biased.

Lots of great people to work with but with the constant restructuring you never have a supervisor for more than 1-1.5 years so there are openings available often.  Encana has continued to drill and commission new facilitates but due to the downturn in the oil and gas industry they have been trying to run with less and less team members which puts more work load on an already overloaded and understaffed workforce. Over all they treat their staff well enough but they are still a corporation that is there to make as much profit as possible.

- A typical day started at the office completing & reviewing safety documentation, Travel to various Drilling, Completions and Construction locations within a 600km radius of Grande Cache, AB.
- I learned how to be self sufficient in remote locations, hardest part was the all the time driving activities. (4000-5000km a month) good weather and bad weather.
- Teaching and mentoring safety culture to all workers was the most enjoyable part of the job.

There's an earlier start to the day, I was typically in around 8am, got a cup of coffee and got settled in for the day. I would then have a meeting with my supervisor just to go over my project and what the focus of the day was. I was always able to ask any questions I had. There was a great culture of inclusion and open flow of communication, ensuring all employees were on the same page. I would also often get lunch with colleagues, with regular social events to meet employees in other departments.

I came in mid project on the corporate split. I was probably one of the last people hired before they chose to wait another year. Truly economic decision of course. During that time we worked and honed and aligned with the targets. I have never seen or experience project management and leadership so dedicated in my entire career. I was so impressed and motivated. It felt like being part of a happy borg of togetherness.
