I was the Manager, Client Services, Group & Retiree Services.  A department of 15 Customer Account Reps reported to me, and we were responsible for providing expertise to the brokers who sold group insurance and servicing the employers who purchased insurance for their employees, and providing direction to the insurance company where business was placed.
Prior to that, I was a Senior Group Benefits Account Manager for HSBI where I determined benefit needs for employers to provide to their employees, made recommendations for design of the Group Employee Benefit Plan, and placed the business with the appropriate carrier based on service and price.
I spent most of my career at the Canada Life Assurance Company in downtown Toronto in various management positions.  I have expert knowledge of employee benefit plans, disability management, and customer care.  I am extremely organized, driven to succeed, and have a passion for customer service excellence

Underwriters hold little regard and respect for underwriting assistants. HR encourages contracts to start with opportunity to move into something permanent if "star" performer - if you are unilingual forget it, few achieve it. Those who do, can take up to two years. You will be used to put out the work and let go before your contract ends. I can't really think of an enjoyable moment of the job - my team leader was incompetent and inefficient in terms of effective leadership of the team.

Management only care about themselves, several ready for retirement and are going through the motions. I believe that the are not motivated to the success of the company. Poor or no decision made, they like tell stories, and nothing seems to be true. I believe this company is in trouble, and will be operating much long if these attitudes continue. They cannot keep good personal so it seems.

Worked here for several years and overall it was a really positive experience. Management is decent and opportunities are there if you work hard.
Great place if you want to learn the industry.

Typical day at work - Answering many e-mail and phone call inquires. Up to 80 e-mails a day and just as many phone calls.
I have a great Supervisor that is always inspiring the team.
I have great co-workers and we work as a well functioning team.

This is a small nice niche insurance player located in the east end of Ottawa which requires bilingual staff to service all the provinces of Canada for liability and legal defence

Opportunities for advancement and growth if insurance in your desired field. Treat their employees very well. Coffee and juice always available to staff, extra 15 minutes added to lunch on pay days.

Good for young people seeking professional development. Heavy work loads with some opportunity for upward mobility. Overall a nice place to work, friendly and helpful staff.
