ENMAX changed significantly during my 8 years there.  It is still a good place to work but the current direction of the executive is transforming the culture from a family oriented, locally focused, employee valued one to one which is now run like a US company which is strictly bottom line focused.  The company still has many great people working there although many, many people are being transitioned out thru leadership changes or outsourcing parts of the organization to facilitate this culture transformation. I enjoyed working there immensely as the work was interesting and rewarding, the people were fantastic to work with, the social events were fun and generated a sense of family and loyalty, the fitness facility was excellent, the location outside the downtown core was convenient as was the free parking.  Many of these things have changed recently but overall still a great place to work.

This company is not for profit (regulated) and under resourced. The work culture is toxic. The company values image/PR, work life balance and delivery. There is no quality control, safety focus, performance measurement, continuous improvement or effective communication. There are silos and lack of alignment between departments. There is a development ceiling as scope of work is narrow and relatively easy, there is little to no cross training or opportunities to move teams. There is a nice training budget but you have to push for it to be spent. Favoritism causes the wrong people to be promoted. Recognition is not provided and you are not held accountable if you do a poor job. If you ask questions to leadership they will scold you and your bonus is cut. If you have an idea and make a business case you are likely to be disappointed/frustrated with the lack of traction. I’ll stop there.

I’ve had a very positive experience with this company. The workplace culture is welcoming, collaborative, and supportive, which creates an environment where people genuinely enjoy coming to work each day. Leadership communicates clearly and encourages open dialogue, making it easy to ask questions, share ideas, and contribute to improvements. There is a strong focus on professional growth, with opportunities to learn new skills, take on new responsibilities, and progress within the organization.

Teamwork is highly valued here. Colleagues are respectful, helpful, and willing to support each other, which makes even busy or challenging periods manageable. Work-life balance is also an important priority, and flexibility is provided when needed, which shows that employees are trusted and valued.

Overall, this is a company that truly cares about its people. It fosters a positive environment, recognizes hard work, and provides opportunities to grow both personally and professionally. I would highly recommend it.                                                                                                              

Enmax used to have a great environment to work in.  They focused on work life balance and promoting from within.  The culture changed in the last few years however.  Work/Life balance went out the window, all that mattered was getting an increasing amount of work completed with a constantly shrinking amount of staff.  Many employees were working every evening and on the weekends in order to get their work completed.  

Promoting from within also went away as when any new position came open the requirements were set so that nobody in house had all of the skills they were looking for.  Therefore any new positions were filled from external candidates leading to the impressions that management did not appreciate the employees actually working for them.

Very negative call centre, lots of turnover. Management is disengaged. The focus is entirely on performance stats to the detriment of the customer's experience and needs. The union environment doesn't exactly breed innovation or change, everyone is so set in their ways no matter how labour intensive. Very old school. The schedule is performance based so if you have a poor quarter you might end up screwed working weekend of evenings. Too hard to manage daycare and family life.

ENMAX is a fantastic company to work for. The organization genuinely cares about its employees and fosters a positive, supportive work environment. Management is approachable, and there are plenty of opportunities for professional growth and development. The company offers competitive compensation, strong benefits, and a healthy work-life balance. Team members are collaborative, knowledgeable, and committed to delivering excellent service to customers and the community. Overall, ENMAX is a great place to build a career and work alongside talented people who make a real difference every day.

I was hired for a brief contract (six weeks) to review training modules. I made some minor repairs, as the contract was too brief to make any large changes. I worked on over 200 documents. On my own initiative I developed a spread sheet of errors and missing information in the documents I reviewed. I got high praise for this, as it was unexpected and was, as my manager said "this is great, we don't have to start from the beginning." The work did become a bit routine and it was hard keeping focus. I was, however, allowed to work from home, which made me more productive.

ENMAX is a place with great people & great culture but the company lacks loyalty & dedication to its people. They preach about "People are our Strength" but if they will not hesitate to get rid of people if they think they can save a few bucks at the expense of quality of service & quality of work. They are no different than many companies now that want dedication & loyalty from its people but does not feel the need to demonstrate dedication & loyalty to its people.

This was a wonderful place to work at. Great work/life balance. Mangers were kind and respectful of their administrative staff. The workload was just enough to keep you going and never overwhelming. The unfortunate part is that it is difficult to find a permanent posting as they will always pick seniority over skill set because it is a unionized environment. It’s good if you are a permanent employee, but good luck trying to find something permanent if you are hired on a temporary role.

ENMAX Mgmt loves to use the "other duties as assigned". Free training is offered when it comes at no additional cost to the company.
