Overall stressful job that takes a lot of your time with not the greatest compensation. Long hours, they promote the idea of 'flex time' to accommodate, but managers frown upon utilizing this time. Consistently understaffed - and always will be. They will try to save every dollar in personnel expense by intentionally keeping branches understaffed with no efforts to correct the issue. Typical corporate structure where performance and numbers will always be the focus over promoting a healthy and positive work environment. When Jack Taylor started this company in 1957, he framed the company's vision that if you take care of your employees first, your employees will then take care of your customers, then growth and profitability will follow. There has been a drastic shift in this vision where upper management puts such a heavy emphasis on SQi (service quality index), that taking care of employees is almost non-existent and is overlooked drastically. Work-life balance is almost non-existent and is often treated as humour on social media platforms, (ie. joking about not having a lunch break in weeks, being overworked, etc.).

If you're young, single, ambitious, and don't mind putting in the time, you can gain good experience in a business operation setting. However, proceed with caution in how long you put your time in with this corrupt company. They care far more about customers over employees and the frontlines staff (MTs, Interns, CARs, Branch Management Team) is the punching bag for a lot of the flaws in the company (limited vehicle availability, underwriting procedures, etc.). An overall okay company to work for to gain experience, but not ideal for the long-run or someone that values work-life balance or comradery within the workplace. It's a numbers game for the big guys, as soon as you build a solid pay plan they will find any reason to get rid of you.

Take care of your employees better. If you want to promote the 'yes' mentality for vehicle availability, Area Rental Managers need to be more competent to set their branches up to be successful. There was a huge lack of support and favoritism within my area in my experience, and it ultimately led me to become disgruntled and disengaged. Work was no longer fun and we were consistently set up for failure. Also, staff your branches properly. Understaffing is a consistent problem and yes it ultimately saves money on the bottom line, but impacts the overall well-being of your good employees. Don't be cheap on your personnel expenses.

Best place by FAR I have been employed! The staff are great, best co workers ever! The company appreciates their staff. They have get together and appreciation days where you just meet with your co workers and have fun! Advancement is encouraged! They literally try to convince you to move up!  It's not everyday you find a company who promotes advancement.  
Management was quite good but could have been a little more detailed as to the special terminology they  use when training new employees. 

A typical day at work for me as a car detailer was to arrive 1/2 hour early, start prepping the cars that came in overnight for new customers.  Consisted of driving the car to the garage for a wash, cleaning inside, using car freshener etc. Then if needed, refueling and other odd jobs like picking up cars from service places etc.  I also loved the job because instead of cleaning, cleaning, cleaning cars all day, they also sent me on errands like picking up and dropping off customers! That was best part because you always got to drive a different vehicle!  

My least favorite part about the job was the fact your hands become dry, cracked and very sore! I recommend hand cream throughout the day!  And the fact that some people leave the worst messes in the vehicles! You wouldn't believe what you can find in the back seat or in the trunk. But, they allow frequent breaks whenever you need it which is great especially because cleaning cars when the place is at peak hours can be tough. You have to work very fast!
Now, The best part about this job was driving all the new cars!  They always have the current years vehicles so you get to see all the newest upgrades!  And the fact that they evaluate you after 3 months and give you a chance at a raise!  And not a small raise either, mind you.  

Overall, I HIGHLY recommend working here!  Best company by FAR!

With Enterprise Rent-a-Car we concentrate on four main points on a daily Basis.  First and foremost is Customer Service.  Our main goal is to reach as many customers as possible to create a loyal customer base.  Second, we concentrate heavily on the development of our employees.  By doing so, we are teaching our employees the fundamentals of our business and giving them the tools to not only help strengthen themselves, but also help strengthen the company as a whole.  By taking care of our customers and our employees we will be able to positively effect the remaining two core areas of our business, growth and profits.  

By paying attention to these four core areas (customers, employees, growth and profits) we are a well fucntioning and profitable business where teamwork rules.  Teamwork and trust are the staples that hold together the four core areas of the business.  Without teamwork, we would not be successful as no one person can run a business alone, without the support and help of their peers.  

In order to accomplish all of this, there is one key rule, make work fun!  Concentrate on making coming in to the workplace in the morning an enjoyable experience.  As a leader, I need to set the tone and provide the energy for the team as we prepare for each and every day.  Setting goals and being continuously and aggressively competitive amongst each other, in a respectful way of course, is an important way of ensuring we are creating the energy within the team necessary to be successful.  As a leader, always make sure you are recognizing and celebrating success, but also coaching and guiding where need be!

Working for this company has been so incredibly important to my professional development, it has created a work ethic that can't be beat, a desire to succeed that is second to none. At first it wasn't too bad a quick training of two weeks and they expect you on the phone taking calls 8 days in. For some this is too quick I was okay with it though. about 50% of the people who started training were gone within the end of the training.

Back to back calls and many rude customers who just want rental prices. I was put on a year of probation because a customer was yelling and swearing at me and I disconnected the call. No warning or anything, which was kind of interesting because I was also trying to switch my schedule and after that was not allowed too. This happened within the first month of working there also.

Every month they have a "1v1" with you where you get told where you're doing well and where you're not. They expect a 4 minute minimum AHT (Average Handle time), 92% of Adherence (on phone time excluding transfers, personal time or internet issues),45% reservations made and 60% of people who actually rent the vehicle. 

So after a year of working there they decided to give us all a raise of about $3 which was nice. Until you figure out they fired about 10 people a month after this raise was given. Basically you're not allowed to take bathrooms breaks outside of breaks and lunch, I even had an issue with my stomach and still that didn't matter. 

While the pay and the benefits might seem nice at first, the calls are repetitive and brutal to say the least, back to back and you will need to be at your desk for 9 hours a day. Excluding the hour Lunch and two 15 min breaks. There is also unpaid Lunch in which they force an hour. God forbid you want to stretch your legs or use the bathroom during work times.

Enterprise has a great system; follow it with passion and always putting yourself in the customers shoes and you can’t help but be successful and build loyal, repeat business!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
If you love people and have Customer Service in your DNA, there is nothing stressful about working for Enterprise! It doesn’t feel like “work”, if you love your job and service, and are competitive but ethical, thinking “What is best for the customer and the company, long term? What would the Founder - Jack Taylor, do in your shoes?” Every employee is empowered to think this way!

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Right from the get go, everybody wants to teach you and see you advance. They have a vested interest in seeing you get promoted.

In turn, you pay that forward with new employees.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Huddle in the morning to discuss goals; everybody knows how they are contributing to the Team; reconcile keys with all inventory on your lot; “Wow” every single customer you come in contact with and exceed their expectations; follow up with customers who returned their trucks overnight by calling them and making sure they were completely satisfied with the service( if for any reason they were not, come up with a win-win solution); call customers who picked up trucks that day as well and thank them for choosing Team Enterprise; make sure they are completely satisfied; if your long term corporate customers can’t make it to the branch on time, figure something out to get them on the road, especially if they need to have their driver on the road at 0300 in the am (be flexible;-)

Don't get me wrong this may well be one of the most valuable expierence you have on your CV. You will learn so much within a short period of time, you will feel as though you have been there for years! 

The work is hard and the pay is quite bad. Be expected to work long hours( 48-55 hours a week). Expect all of your dress wear to get torn, muddy, sweaty and brake over the course of your first few months. Be ready to have pretty much no life outside of enterprise and taking breaks besides lunch is very much frowned upon. Benefits are okay. You get a cool 500$ to buy dress wear at the beginning. Additionally, they provide decent dental, health and prescription plans. You also get free lunches occasionally provided from managers and other staff members. 

The work culture is amazing! Honestly, the culture and the ability to advance rather fast are the only reasons I am still with the company. People are great and the personalities are hilarious. The ability for advancement is solely based on the ability to sell additional products however you can make assistant manager and $1,000 bonus in 7 months if you work at it. I have seen many people rise fast in the company but I have also seen 30 year old men making 50-60,000/year and working as if they run the entire company! 


It's a good company for a recent grad not exactly sure what they want to do. The potential for advancement is quick and easy while the work culture is fun and tedious. There are times you will want to quit on the spot, and others where you will be proud to be amongst the elite of the car rental business.

The job itself is good, you drive various cars and trucks from point A to B and sometimes out of town which can be nice to do at times. Your day to day paper work is simple. My immediate manager is amazing and does a good job and treats me well and creates a welcoming environment. However, that environment changes immediately after you are given keys to a vehicle to transport. All the lead drivers except for one retain the “old boys club mentality” and do not care about you. They will belittle you and embarrass you in front of your fellow coworkers even when you do nothing wrong or prove them wrong on something. They are always right and you can’t change their minds. You will also get in trouble for passing people and heaven forbid your coworkers on the main highways like the QE2 and Yellowhead Trail/Highway EVEN WHEN YOU’RE NOT SPEEDING. Most of the lead drivers and fellow drivers insist on driving dangerously slow on these main highways as well, causing traffic jams at the same time. Your other coworkers are tough to get along with too for the most part. You’ll get along with very few of them and the ones you do get along with can make your day slightly better. Overall, I felt like I was generally disliked and on thin ice with everyone and that they were looking for ways to get you into trouble or even fired. Some care WAY TOO MUCH about an absolute minimum wage job with no advancement. It’s best to be quiet, keep your head down, and do your job but nothing more. If you are part time work as little as possible. The pay is disgustingly low and the hours vary day to day. 

There is definitely an expiration date on working for Enterprise.  The hours are long and the expectations are demanding and often, unattainable.  The culture was fun.  I've met some and kept in touch with some of the best people that I had the privilege of working with.   But that started to slide right before I left.  It was very teamwork oriented and the company had way more fun events but they started to cut that out. 

I learned a lot at Enterprise that has helped me out immensely with my subsequent jobs.  I have gotten feedback that I got opportunities because they knew I would be great if I survived at Enterprise as long as I did.  There's great training on customer service that you can take with you anywhere, because most positions require you to service either external or internal customers.  Most schedules seem short after you've worked 14 hour days and/or 6-7 days/week.  

But there's some definite dysfunctions.  It's great you can be promoted so quickly but you may be reporting to people who got promoted WAY too quickly.  I once brought up a sexual harassment concern about one of the other employees to a few of the area managers but no one did anything to help.  They also drink the koolaid and force the expectations on you without any support.

Just...be very careful if you work here.  If you do it, make it count and get out before you lose years off your life.

I worked as a car detailer for a year, overall it was a positive experience, the people whom I worked with were great, really easy to get along with and hilarious. Made busy days easier. 

Loved getting to drive all the different vehicles from minivans, to trucks and even luxury cars, also enjoyed going on road trips to other enterprise branches to swap vehicles. Often going out to get gas and delivering vehicles.

I often worked at the Trenton branch as well and it was always great to work at. Always enjoyed being there. 

Downsides are some days can be extremely busy, non stop cleaning cars all day, shop area has no A/C, the winter months are horrible, I’m sure any employee would agree. Sometimes when a vehicle would have damage or an issue that I bring to their attention they brush it off like it’s no big deal then are surprised when the customer things it back for the same issue I mentioned earlier in the day. The days are really long too, 7am to 6pm, but when you’re busy it goes by pretty quickly. 

It’s also frustrating that I was transferred to another branch under the impression I was getting full time hours from what the manager said, then during my first day she told me that I’d have maybe 25 hours a week, so I left a great position in Belleville for a subpar job in Northern Ontario all because I was mislead. Very unfortunate. But a huge company like this doesn’t care.

You gota get lucky with the management , either have a good team (assistant manger, branch manager and area managed) and it makes it a good environment for you . Thankfully I lucked out but if you don’t you are going to be frustrated and over worked as you work from 47 to 52 hours a week and over time is 44 hours over and not including lunches . Very long work days which sucks for having any sort of life of your own or time to recuperate. Promotions are awarded based on a matrix which is basically a ranking system of the employees in the same role as you. You put more hours you get ahead . YOU HAVE YO BE WILLING TO RELOCATE, which means you have to be ready to pack up and move in order to get ahead as it all depends on where openings are . They have a hire within philosophy but unfortunately if you recently graduated and want to do something in head offices you can’t unless you go through their steps of being a management trainee, doing this big exam called a MQI and then assistant manager which is honestly you working the same as branch manger and they put it 60 hours a week ! And get base salary plus commission . Very much a boys club , can get sexist at times. Not a job I would recommend unless you are passionate about sales/ making money and can put those hours in. You can do so much more with a university degree as that is the base requirement to apply . Good thing Is you will get benefits after 3 months and it’s decent and you have rrsp contributions and they will match up to 3%
