a typical day at work - busy; you'll be very involved on the whole project which is refreshing as other companies you have no idea what's going on on the other part of the project. You may be on more than one project. You need to be a quick learner as there are a lot of really smart people. 

what you believe you learned - you are more involved in all aspects, so I had a chance to learn a lot more about overall how the client, company and project actually is managed.

management - they have been very supportive of my initiatives and ideas. They are very busy on projects so get what you are asking about, but they make time. My manager is transparent and makes a point of telling us what is going well, what's changing, what new projects are coming in.

workplace culture - this is something you can tell is cared about. Socials are well-done and are relaxing - you don't have to play games or do icebreaker things. There are lots of different socials from whole company to project to department. We got to go to a hockey game in a suite as a department and that's the first I've ever seen that. Events are free. I like the flexibility to work from home if I need it and the days aren't set.

the hardest part of the job - you will be asked to manage a lot and there are a lot of high performing folks that you would feel you let down if you didn't really put your mind to it. 

the most enjoyable part of the job - I like that you can ask real people for things. I needed some things from IT and HR, and they just fixed it up for me. 

This company does not have work culture or lost it after Covid time and have hard time to recover since on the competitive market. Equinox Engineering is limited to project/ design production capacity due to lack of adopted business process to step up at the level up. It's okay for some basic brown field work or small O&G plants feed type projects with typical industry solutions run by a single man assigned to a discipline. New hire should notice that some department managers can be rude with engineers which not everyone likes it. Equinox Engineering has constant problem with quality control as lack of experienced/knowledgeable stuff assigned to do work (the most of routine design makes overseas) with causing lost productive hours and clients expectations. Equinox Engineering is mostly suitable if you are an independent contractor when you have a deal with them on exact deliverables and hours. Should you accept to work with Equinox Engineering maybe if you don't have anything at the moment but keep looking.

The company also does a great job bringing people together through social events and team activities, helping build real connections beyond day-to-day tasks. It’s a place where you feel valued, supported, and motivated to do your best work.

This is not a place for engineers, all they need is your stamp, you as a engineer will be the last one to receive information or sometimes you see the scope just few days before IFC. Some PEs work closely with designers, but keep engineers out of the loop. So engineers only get timely information when they luckily work with a real professional designer. The department head simply has no soft skills for the position, treated the department members with no respect, not sharing project information with the team, no overview of workload and manpower. The former department manager was much better. The management know all of these but they are hesitant to take actions. This company is cheap, but both the company and the stamping engineers are taking huge risk, I believe the same for the client. Think twice before you apply.

I worked for Equinox for 4 years.

In that time I worked many challenging projects. There was however a lack of good estimating done for project hours. Not a complaint but an observation. They do job share with both India and Australia. At times this dictates what happens on a project and can impact design quality. I was given the ability to travel their India office which enabled me to learn more about job sharing. This knowledge has been a big factor in my acquiring a new position with one of their competitors. :-)

There are a few too many managers but they all are good people. My teams were motivated and produced good work. 

There is a bit too much adherence to "we have always done it like that" approaches. Some really talented new blood would enhance what Equinox does.

My experience with them could not be worse. They hired me and did not delegate any work for weeks. They expect you to find a project to work on to get paid! They have a team of around 400 people however organization structure does not match that size. The mentality is still very small and they have no intention to grow.  There is no culture and no value to the people, high turnover is proof of this, you will see they are always hiring. It is not a huge surprise they are failing to get bigger projects from bigger owners. They only focused on smaller jobs from the smaller companies. I have worked in big and mid-size EPC environments however I did not experience this level of unprofessionalism anywhere else. 

A typical day at work: mainly dependent on the lead you are working with. Can be good or awful.

Management: lots of politics! the management is NOT transparent, will manipulate facts to fit a certain narrative and has been in shambles ever since that manager of six years left. Instead of talent development or improving employees' experience - the managers and recruiters are writing their own 5-star reviews on the company. EMBARRASSING

Workplace culture: no culture, simply come in, work, get paid, leave. repeat

The hardest part of the job: staying for more than 2 years.

The most enjoyable part of the job: flexible WFH policy

High turnover, lack of consistency in procedures between departments and even between different projects/managers in the same.department.  despite valiant efforts on the part of the quality team, many persist who expect the rules and procedures should not apply to them leaving those doing the work getting different direction from project teams vs. Departments leads and ultimately are stuck in the middle with no resolution and lots of room for blame.  Benefits are minimal (basic health and dental, no orthodontics, no response plans, no paid sick time.
Expectations are that you work more hours than you will be paid for in order to make undersold budgets work out.


Equinox management does not provide growth opportunities, even though they promise you that in the interview process.
Management has the tendency to 'carrot dangle' without the promised end result.

The HR Management does not support its employees. Does not make strong efforts to listen or change the issues that are ongoing.  The HR management is unorganized, and unethical; sharing confidential information with employees who are outside of the HR capacity.
The overall compensation is not competitive enough with the industry, as it should be.
Spending more money on monthly parties and alcohol rather than employee recognition or improving employee morale.
Overall, by far, not a top employer.

Learned several skills in engineering and workplace atmosphere with working with a large number of people on one project. Work began with individual efforts and became a full team working together to achieve the best product, with safe designs and solutions while still maintaining cost effectiveness with decision making to maintain budgets. Reward of a job well done was the most enjoyable part of the job which came from increased responsibility and complexities of tasks assigned.
