Evans Consoles seemed great at first and a very professional company. However the further you work your way closer to the brains of the company and the front office you realize Evans is a company full of people who have worked there for decades and have been held back skills wise and greatly underpaid in doing so. 
Majority of the managers are so out of their depth and are kept in their roles because they are yes men/ women and the CFO and CEO are just happy they can get away with paying them a lower salary as these workers don’t realize what they are worth in another company. 
Salaries have no overtime worked in to them and the company is often so busy you are doing upwards of 10-12 hour days to keep up with the schedule. If you don’t and can’t keep up with the schedule you  are looked at like you are unworthy. In some instances work contracts are changed to force people into taking a lower salary and to cut the OT costs. In one instance this type of move completely decimated the millwork design team and created the loss of a handful of incredibly skilled and motivated professionals. The CFO takes people for fools and uses intimidation tactics to try mold people into starting low and becoming one of the evans long haulers that are horribly underpaid. If you are a young professional look else where because you will be servely held back. If you are someone about to start there make sure you get what you are worth early and don’t fall for any of the hold down tactics and promises of further wage rises because there will always be an excuse why that raise can’t come. 

Typical day started at 7 usually lasting until 4-5 pm.  I felt like I was being watched if I took a break that meant I’d leave my desk.  I felt like if I went home after completing my 8 hr shift that I would be seen as not being a team player.  One positive I I learned a lot about control systems and met many people outside of my department who were good people.  May direct manager and team liked to lead by intimidation.  They’d purposely give you more work than you could complete in a day just to see how long you’d stick it out I guess.  The procurement Team lead was a bully, no other way to say it.  Management was complicit and chose to enable this type of behaviour within their organization.  I would go home each night stressed out always feeling like I was one mistake away from not having my contract not renewed.  Many nights I’d be working from home to try to catch up on all of the work I couldn’t get to during the course of my shift.  I am happy to no longer be there and my mental well being has improved greatly since my tenure ended with this organization.  I had high hopes for this job I felt like I gave it my best effort.  I hope that they implement procedures and policies that are more fair and perhaps they will have better success in retaining workers.

Evans was focused on their own profit. They tested the employees kinda poorly. I as others worked there for 5 yrs with a freeze on wages. That's not really being a concerned employer. They told us 25% of the shop would be getting a bonus. When the time came they gave all 100% of the bonuses to the shift supervisors. They had no problem telling us that. It was even done in a group meeting. We did all the work yet only the supervisors were recognized. That was the start of the end for me. When they finally got around to stopping the wage freeze l received 1.50$ per hr. This was after 5yrs of service in the company. If that wasn't unfair enough they also wanted to change my job. I was happy doing what l was doing already. This transfer was not going to be with a raise. I was already trained in 3 different jobs. Now there would be 4 different jobs l was 100% capable of. All that and only a 1.50$ an hr raise. This company is worth millions of dollars. I spent far to long there, that's my own fault. There's no way l could recommend anyone to work there. 

Run the other way.  This place is a soul crushing career killer.  The front office is a revolving door, and for good reason. There is no room for advancement, there is no reward for going above and beyond. The best employees are taken advantage of while the worst are left to their own devices.

This place is every Dilbert cartoon, every meme about bad management.  

If you're new to the work force looking for your first job, great. Go work at Evan's for a year. Then leave. There are no raises, bonuses or advancement, no room for free thought,  and if you stay too long you'll get stuck with a set of very specific untransferable skills and you'll end up there for life hating every second of it. 

If you're a horrible employee it's a great place. You can get drunk at lunch, watch netflix all day, show up late and leave early.  You can complain about everything.  Management will be so busy riding the good employees about every little thing they wont notice.

Your coworkers are great people as are some of supervisors and direct manager are nice people. It’s a fairly relaxed workplace(plant) you don’t have to think about anything once you go home. You’ll work on a wide range of products that test your skill and can be quite interesting to tell to friends and family. 

Upper management is horrible starting with the top, the CEO is genuinely not a good person. He doesn’t care at all about his employees and probably sees them as “human capital” rather then people with lives and family’s. There is a clear division of treatment between office and plant workers with office workers getting preferential treatment and special privileges. Wage increases are far and few between, they’ll just use low profits as a reason and delay it till your next review which will probably have the same outcome. Bonuses/profit sharing is also the same either small or non existent. 

There was nothing to say I learned. It is not an enjoyable place to work. The management style is Munden and needs to be transformed. I learned that no matter how hard you work, if management does not like your face, u will not get the reward of your work. From my time and experience there, I noticed that some managers are afraid to recruit someone who is more academically qualified than them as a good number of the managers learned on the job and gained promotion due to longevity. The pay as assemblers, packers and other similar roles, the pay is bad no matter how long you have worked for the company. Most employees I talked to, are there just because they have not found better opportunities otherwise, they would have long left the company.

The work day went by very quickly with never a dull moment. I had the opportunity to progress rapidly in my role. The company was also in transition while I was employed there which created both momentum and initiatives to get involved with. Whether in the office or manufacturing areas, everyone was fully engaged and co-workers were helpful, pleasant and committed.

Excellent shop and excellent people. Work is mostly production, with an occasional custom piece. I got my job with them via a placement agency, starting as a packaging temp. Over time I was trained on various hand and power tools, including table saw. Management encourages cross training and tries to meet the needs of employees. Downsides are frequent busy periods and minimal raises. There is not much opportunity for career growth in the shop, unless it is your first job.

I loved the job for i was good at it; mostly because I am good with my hands and am spatially sound. Which comprised 90% of the job at Evans Consoles.

However i did not fit into the work culture as I am not of Filipino decent.That being said, I believe that they did try to incorporate me into the company as a "valued employee"; however I found this difficult to believe as I had to "seek out" more work on a hourly basis.

Start at 1 of 2 shifts 6am and 2:15 pm, assemble parts and create a piece by piece finished product. Time management is super strict if you need a 5 minute break you don’t get one you get written up, run out of work during a shift too bad you get written up. Finished lunch 1 minute over you get written up. 

Management is only there to see if you can handled by the throat on a leash and if you disobey you get let go from your job.
