I worked at Export Packers full-time (Less than a year)
- Work was weigh fish and then statistically analyse data for average, max/min weight etc, once a week (shrimp days: ATP bioluminescence analysis),  Keep documents in check and filing, Monitor workers and occasionally do package checks
-Pay $42,000/yr with benefits after 3 months
-I am a life science graduate with 1 yr of previous work experience
-Morning shift: 5:30am to 3pm, Afternoon shift 1pm to 10pm
Pros
- Salary is within standards however be vary of the number of hours you work for (deceived by HR, you work 8.5hrs not 8hrs and if you don't complete your work on time be prepared to work overtime without pay)
- Most of my colleagues were immigrants (workers=immigrants filipino mostly, management: 80% white) and were very nice people
- Environment: You work very hard and in the cold
-Easy life for people who work at the corporate office but very hard life for people working at the plant
- free fish some fridays but they will try to sell it to you other times at a discounted cost.
Cons
- I worked at the fish plant and it was a very cold environment, be ready to work at (-20°C to 7°C) depending on the location of work. At my interview no one told me to put on a winter jacket and i went to the plant feeling very cold on my first day
- Although not in my contract, i was made to lift fish boxes over 80 lbs.
- The management does not listen to you or care about you
- If you are part of the management team, be ready to work lots of hours without pay. There were many times where i was forced to work overtime to complete my tasks but i wasn't compensated for it.
- Colleagues are not to be trusted. One of my colleagues had back problems from lifting excess weight and when i told him that he should speak to WSIB about it, I got fired after he ratted on me.
- My job did not even need a degree, so I don't understand why they ask for a degree in their requirements.
- Management will lie to you, telling you how everyone wants to work forever in the company. The truth is at the plant, the turnover rate is very high and at the corporate location everyone has an easy life and so people tend to stay.
- Complain about your rights and you are fired
- 9hr job, 1 hr unpaid break (which includes two 15 min breaks and one 30 min lunch break) and i was salaried. Other companies pay for the 15 min breaks. It felt like i was working 9hrs and not 8hrs
- Workers are depressed at the company. I was very depressed from the time i began working there.
- No career opportunities (i know many of the management staff that were stuck in the same position for more than 3 years including new graduates)

Machines being constantly broken (which caused it to run slow, if it could run at all)
Most days were 14hrs+ (longest day was 24hrs)
We were told that, legally, yes we could go home...but if we didn't do the hours, that a lot of us would loose our jobs
Because of this staff had a really high turnaround rate, which left the place constantly short-staffed, so those who tried to stick to the end were stuck doing double duty's on-top of doing double hours.

Quality department seemed to be poorly organized with Manager lacking management and hiring skills. I was not given any proper training. It was expected from me to sit on a chair for 8 hours and do nothing. No duties were assigned to be taken care off. Complete waste of time. 

HR department was also found to be inefficient. Salary offer was deceived than initially promised. Company hires unemployed people and enrolls in third party government agencies in name of wage subsidy programs and later lay off those people. Deceitful and cheating. 

Not so much to gain or learn or contribute. Beware to join.

Overall rating would be poor.

Day of work starts off with confusion not knowing where you are supposed to be as there are many areas management will want you to work this is never the same. Nothing posted that is a solid plan.
Management can not work the line and do not know the labour needed to  complete tasks they demand to get completed 
overtime is only offered to a select few of their favourites.

Great place, family-oriented and the people are nice to work with. Learned a lot about the supply chain business while I was here and the food industry. It's very interesting and recession-proof, medium-sized companies is lean but hard workers and put the effort in and there's lots of job security even if the progression is slow.

Sunday shift people routinely dropped fish on dirty floor.
I haven't eaten fish in a long time since working here.
People would go home during lunch and stay there for hours while others had to work hard

 I have learned to do labels using various couriers. Print labels for different the company's sample products. Learned how to use their intranet computer system. The hardest part of the job is to track and make sure the parcel  from the moment it was created will reaches its destination. 

Was promoted from within and hired back to this company after leaving for another opportunity. Worked my way up from an entry level position to a supervisory role.  Very good company benefits package.  Enjoyed most of the people I worked with.
