A typical day at work involved going out in crews of 2 or 3 people to the work location by truck and quad/bike. Throughout the day I would work on various projects mostly solitary but working in groups of 2 did also happen. Working at Forsite taught me to be self reliant and efficient, working to get the jobs done before the proposed due date. Great management and co-workers who always helped if I needed it and were understanding about mistakes in the early portion my employment there. The most enjoyable part of the job was being able to work outside in the wilderness, being close to nature.

I work in the office supporting my clients across the country to meet their resource management needs. No two days or projects are alike, providing a lot of diversity in my work and exposure to the industry. I get to collaborate with people across the company and with external organizations and subject matter experts, providing endless opportunities to learn and advance myself. As an office worker I am provided the right tools to be ergonomic and effective in my work, and have the ability to work from home. The flexible schedule and independence in my responsibilities is a great structure for those who don't fit into the classic 9-5.

In my office role I work 8-9 hour days entering data, creating maps and editing maps. I received a full week of hands on training and have been closely supported throughout my time at Forsite and especially during the introduction/learning period. I am compensated with overtime for any time I work beyond 8 hours in a day and I have fun, energetic co-workers. Since I am in a full time office position, I was also equipped with a sit/stand desk, which is great. My most difficult part of the job is having to sometimes quickly change my focus and priorities for tasks. My most enjoyable part of the job is seeing the end results of my maps.

Nothing bad to say about this company, everyone was super helpful and patient to teach new comers or students and I'm really happy with my experience here. Expect hard work in the field and be ready for outdoor conditions but otherwise if you enjoy forestry this is a great place to be. Safety is paramount and you get to travel around BC! Even sometimes in a helicopter! They accept people with or without forestry schooling background and its definitely a place you can stay and work up for a full time career.

Work days are on average 10 hours long with overtime payment. The company does pre-harvest and post-harvest assessments for a variety of forestry clientele.  Skills and responsibilities are passed down quickly, leading to a fast progression in knowledge and experience.

Forsite provides an overall excellent work environment. They allow office staff the option of remote work, flexible hours, competitive salary and benefits, and the managers are great to their team members.

Management is open to employee suggestions. The work hours can be long at times but are very flexible and there are lots of opportunities to work from home. Forestry has been a very male-dominated profession but it is refreshing to see how much of Forsites workforce is female.

People there are great. Committed to finding jobs that everyone likes and expanding their knowledge on new technologies within the industry. Long hours and hard work but worth it if you like that kind of stuff! 

The team at the office in Salmon Arm is a great team that works together collaboratively. Management is open to new ideas and works to keep open dialogue.
