i have been with this company for 4 months as a millwright, and thus far my experience has been great so far. I always feel it takes about 3 to 12 months to gauge how a company works. i have been greet with nothing but awesome workers, managers.

 as for my personal supervisor he has been nothing but beyond the best boss I have ever dealt with. he worked well with so many people in our dept, and outside. their not been a single situation where he has not been able to help me. even under the stress of a newer plant with a massive trade shortage he still manages to find time for every maitenance staff. I have never seen this type compassion from a boss ever. 

all of our trade staff is super awesome, and I was beyond scared second day. but they instantly greeted me with open arms. they dont ask for much, just chip in and try your best. new plants bring new challenges. 

production staff have been very easy to work with. front line supervisors have been very nice and supportive.  they are always their to help out and make sure we get things done. 

pay is about 2 to 5 dollars on avg more then other places. pension is amazing, benifits are great. 3 paid sick days, 2 floater days, and 3 weeks vacation to start. 

I drive 30 more minutes to this place to work because it's great to come in and be apart of a team. 

overtime is not forced, your not getting 60 hours a week here, but this is something I personally enjoy. they understand we have lives. and families to tend to when not at work. 

they also pride themselves on safety, always approaching things safe, with our safety being first above all else. 

only thing that I can say with this company that could be better is more staff, but I get the trades are running thin on people, and they are trying to get more staff. 


Talking about the quality department specifically, from the beginning of my hire it was disorganized and uncertain. Coming from only a science background with little knowledge on quality or manufacturing, my training was much less extensive than it should have been. As QA you are given large responsibilities with minimal guidance or trust. All quality decisions were not trusted by supervisors on the floor and my supervisor always needed to be called in order for me to make a decision. Many things I learned were only out of my own initiative, I worked hard and long hours to be promised a day shift for it to be denied because of others’ refusal to comply, and because I “could be trusted alone” on an off-shift. Responsibilities were given randomly, more to others with little to no communication, nor praise or recognition. I learned a lot about food safety and quality assurance but mostly from my own initiative and teamwork from my colleagues. Little to no communication from supervisors in an off-shift nor check-ups on performance. Was physically and mentally draining. Quality procedures were questionable and when trying to implement policies and procedures it was always met with frustration and resistance rather than compliance for food safety. No room to grow in the quality department. The people are amazing, would recommend for general labour, very nice co-workers and a friendly environment from general staff. Good benefits. 

When interviewing for the position they make the company sound amazing... Truthfully one of the worse places I have worked for due to upper management. 

Was hired when the company first moved into Brantford as a new start. Promised room for advancement, and lots of growth opportunities. But then watched each opportunity fly out the window to new hires instead of the employees who were already there because they lacked a "policy" for internal hiring, or the opportunitiws went to someone who had friends in higher places. At this point I realized I was just a number as I had already learned every single machine on their shop floor, literally had scooped thousands of kilos of margarine from the floor with tubs because we lacked proper tools, and many days of sweat and tears because of their lack of proper maintenance on machines. Still many safety and quality issues after a year.

Highly recommend avoiding this work place, especially as a general labourer, unless you enjoy being overworked and underappreciated. 

I worked in Maintenance at the  Brantford facility for approximately 3 months ( Mar -May 2023) and that was even too long to work for this Company.
I am a Fully licensed  Electrician tradesman and most of my days were spent sweeping the floor in Maintenance shop and pushing a pump cart around moving skids . Any  Electrical breakdowns out on production floor  that needed Electrical troubleshooting were given to a CO-Op student instead  of involving  ( and teaching) a fully competent licensed Electrician to look at what conditions are needed to be corrected to start the process back up . Both the Maint Manager and production Managers have no clue how to operate and run a production facility. There was 3 of us , very skilled and competent Tradespeople that left this company in  a 2 week period after working there for 3 months .
If you are a tradesman and looking  for a job in Maintenance, I would not recommend this company.

I thought as a new company that you would be able to grow and become part of the family at Upfield!!! How I was so wrong, Only friends and family get promoted or get the good shifts. Don’t ever think your going to get promoted with in and if they do select someone for a lead hand position it’s not based on previous experience or knowledge. This is why they have made millions of dollars in scrap products and has released millions of dollars of contaminated food products into the market for the last couple years of their startup. We have went through 2 GM’s multiple Health and Safety managers and lots of management has moved on so they won’t be caught up in the up coming disaster that Upfield has brought. How many more deaths will happen because of recalls that could have been stopped right at the factory!!! 
Do not apply unless you don’t care about human life…… 

Some employee's are expected to do more while others stand around.
Just not a good place if your not a favorite or family. If  you speak your mind you will be reprimanded.

The lack of communication between shifts and management.

It does not matter if you work hard or have a good work ethic there you are not recognized. Moving up in this company is not an option unless you are a favorite! Pay and benefits are good! Pension 
The best thing there is leaving! 
It's a Job that's it no matter what they say you are just a number

Safety culture is good, but there's favouritism for some and prefered employees

Pretty friendly environment and co-workers are generally very helpful.

Working on the line. When there is downtime you sweep or clean.

Maintenance supervisor to whom I directly report is knowledgeable and assigns tasks perfectly. Most polished tradesmen I have seen as a supervisor in my 10 year experience. My coworkers are extremely experienced and we work together very well. No micro management. We have lot of events every month like free pizza, food, etc. Paid sick days, 3 week vacation, floater days, etc.
