Having just come out of school for equipment operator I was happy to start at the bottom as an general labourer and work my way up and did so with this company from the get go. The foreman I was assigned to was very helpful and made the job fun and the small crew that we were worked together well. I learned a lot from all whom  I was able to work with and made working for GCS a great learning experience. 
Worked on several projects during the times I worked here and all that I had come in contact with were great and very helpful, good moral most of the time and people that I came in contact with were from across Canada making it a diverse group.   
I worked with this company on four separate times and each was a great experience

This company is always looking for ways to cover up accidents. The paperwork is plenty and you had better read and understand it before you sign. Benefits are the worst in the field, LOA is the worst in the field. Equipment is constantly breaking down and mechanical management is clueless. Safety is important...just do not report anything. Superintendents are pencil pushers who will not back you on anything unless it makes them golden. You are a number and your job is never secure they operate a revolving door policy. 

Told one thing ...then find out it's not job they told me ...told I am a labour first day...sub job but paid biweekly so almost full month till pay then needed a day to pay Bill's and go home as the shifts were not what they said and still told no...took day anyway and fired ...jobs run by a green as grass carpenter and it was a earth moving job ....nothing that was told to me when hired was the same when got to job...won't do advance on a sub job and biweekly pay or after staying longer than told shifts were not given day off to keep house and home in order

The most horrible company I have ever worked for.  
Job description did not reflect the expectations that I was under - at all.  
For almost a a year I spent 36 days in the field with 2 days off - only if those 2 days were the weekend, otherwise was expected in the office. 
 No info to do my job with. 
Bullied to suicidal.
Office staff are afraid to come out of their offices because the atmosphere is so bad.
Compensation was not related to workload - you had to be the owners friend - or a favorite.
Derogatory pics of women in management offices.

I found the company very productive, and gives employees opportunity for career advancement - I found that working for GCS gives me the opportunity to meet career driving people who treat other with good courtesies in professionalism, compassionate, and see others the same when they want others to see them. The team is so terrific; the supervisors are reasonable, co-workers are ready to help when helps are needed...etc.

GCS hired me to train as a Rock Driver. It didn’t take long and eventually I was showing others how to operated safely and at and a good pace.
I enjoyed my time in Fort McMurray and Hardisty and would go back anytime. 
They give good employees time to train on other equipment; dozers, loaders, hoes etc.

No shelters of any sort including lunchrooms or washrooms. I'm not sure that that's even legal. Pay was definitely on the low end of the area, but those are the times these days. Breaks get cut short due to productivity concerns - unpaid breaks, at that. The guys were generally pretty good to work with but they had a culture that is out of line when it comes to labor standards. 

I worked with GCS for 4 years.  There was a lack of work or I would still be with them.  The support from head office was amazing.  There is a strong safety culture which I like to think I helped establish.  GCS hired a lot of labor with no experience and first timers.  I ensured they were working along side mentors to bring them along.  I worked closely with Supervision, the Client and the crew, to achieve our goals.

GCS has excellent supervisor and managers, they are more than willing to help with hands on training to give you experience in furthering your career in construction. The people at GCS are alot of fun to work with as well and I find that makes a person happy and willing to come to work when it's enjoyable!!

The GCS crew and supervisors were great to work with and the support I received from my superiors was great.
I am striving for more of a balance between work and home. I would like to work a shift where the time off is almost equivalent to time worked. I have no issue with the hours in a day, only the amount of days worked in a row to days off.
