Garneau is a great place to work! Excellent group of guys, like others have said they're always willing to lend a hand or help you out. Good benefits. Pizza lunch last Friday of every month.

I ran their Peddinghaus beamline on nights for a while before coming to days, as well as their Peddinghaus plasma for a while. One of their operators showed me lots about machines and helped me out a ton. He is very knowledgeable when it comes to machines. I learned more about machine operation here then I did anywhere else which includes; Calibration of the machine, what a lot of the components actually do like PLCs, some machine code. it helped my overall understanding of machine operation.

The Supervisor, will help out around the shop where needed. He's a welder/fitter first but learned to run their Coper and Plasma table to help out when those machines were behind. Its rare to see a supervisor help out on the shop floor when its needed. He is also very knowledgeable and understanding. I have the upmost respect for him and his team.

Benefits are really good. Dental was excellent though, 80% major/minor with $2500/year, that's the best dental coverage I've had. Massages and chiro seem more standard at $500/ year which is fine.

All in all its an excellent place to work. Great group of guys. Great benefits. Lots of work. While everyone's experience is different, if you show up everyday and do your job and do good on your word, you wont have any problems!



You learn a lot about building MODs and how the production lines up with the deadlines that are required to meet.  

The overall work culture is mint. The guys are always there to help if you need it. No toleration for laziness and great communication amongst everyone (including management). 

Nothing really crazy difficult in the welding side. There are some difficult spots here and there but all manageable. 

Benefits are decent as well (after three months). 

Free lunch near the end of the month (every month) 


What is the best part of working at the company?
The employees were nice. Mangers were horrible leaders and clueless.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The foreman thinks he's God!!!

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It's horrible. Always broken welders, and equipment. The company is to cheap to fix anything properly.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Starts with driving to work, you are so stressed out cause you don't know what you are gonna be in trouble for from the foreman. If the foreman doesn't care for you he will lie to the manager to get you fired.

I have been with Garneau for a couple of years. It was the best life choice, I have made for a long time. New management is great to work for.
The work crew is from diverse backgrounds, and is full of great tradesmen, willing to guide new employees. Again, a great place to work.
Having personal issues to deal with, Garneau has been very supportive and willing to help where they can. Nice to have the support of your employers.

It’s an environment where you can learn and ask questions comfortably

it does get overwhelming when you first get started as it’s a fast paced shop

The guys are relaxed and easy going to talk to and ask questions,  there’s good banter with everyone

Was a very unpleasant experience, zero patience, zero leadership, zero value of the employees, if it was the last place on earth to work, I'd change professions.  Management was the worst i have ever experienced in 30 years. Stay far away from this place.

Great guys to work with,  need to be good at setting yourself up for the day, follow the flow of work. Day shift Forman is great! 
Culture is a typical structural shop, hardest part of the place is putting up the dirt and dust in the liners.


The Forman is easy to approach. If you made a mistake, he would talk to you about it and you fixed it. With the crew, they have 0 issues giving pointers and give a hand when your struggling. 
There are lots of perks that come with the job.

Everyday toolbox meeting to bring up safety concerns so everyone can voice any concerns. Hardest part of the job is really hot in summer and really cold during winter. Best part is consistent work very little down time.

Garneau is a great place to work with a welcoming and long tenured management team. The company has a strong client base that provides them with stable work throughout the year, which is often not the case in the fabrication industry.
