A worthwhile place to work if you’re looking for a steady income or experience in the civil construction industry. 

Like any workplace dealing with different groups of workers can be tricky. There are several different crews made up of core guys that get swapped around every so often. Some of them have been with the company for many years and may take more time to warm up to new hires, but for the most part I found the work environment friendly and welcoming, especially among the younger workers.

The locations of jobs do change sporadically ranging from out east in Markham to back out west towards Ayr. This can make for some long days and less than optimal commutes, however they are willing to make accommodations like travel time and car pooling. 

Room for development is a bit limited since it is a family owned company, hence why I say it’s a great spot to either gain experience or just get a solid paying job. If you’re worth your weight, and can show up on time Monday-Friday they’re willing to pay you, with fairly substantial yearly increases dependent on your performance.

All in all I found it a pleasant place to work and would recommend it as an equipment operator, only dragged down by some things like lack of overtime before 50 hours, too many rain days, and the winter work can be somewhat gruelling.

This company is a great place to work. It’s the right size to be involved in meaningful work and take on responsibilities that might not be available at larger organizations—especially for those who are motivated and capable. Employees have the chance to work closely with managers and are treated fairly and with respect.

The projects we build are some of the best in our market, with a strong track record of impressive completed work. The company takes pride in its work and is known for delivering top-tier results.

Compensation is competitive, and the company provides good, fully paid benefits. Leadership is flexible and supportive, creating a positive work environment. During the COVID pandemic, which created a lot of uncertainty in the industry, no one missed a paycheck, showing the company’s stability and commitment to its employees.

Overall, it’s a well-run company that values its people and builds some really impressive projects.

If you plan on working hard to move up in this company this is not that place for you. If your extremely lazy and want to coast You found the perfect job. I was given a promotion but told I had to stay at my current job for a couple weeks. 1 day before my promotion I was told they no longer needed me to come to construction. After many attempts to get a hold of one of the supervisors or even hr no one could return my calls. This place will USE you i haven’t be able to get in contact with hr about the matter they just ignore my phone calls. If you have any self respect don’t work here. 

My time with this company, I experienced upper management and supervisors changing facts to suit their narrative and cover thier but for delays . Poor planning, poor execution. Consider thier employees to be like water . Remove one and the rest can just fill in . No regard for employees unless your in the good old boys club. Toxic company culture of buck passing. No bonuses, just a strange christmas party with multiple all join hands bow your heads and pray sessions before during and after the meal

The lack of care for anyone that isn't management

Toxic environment, stay as far away from this place

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
They work you like a slave and complain when you don't do the work of 3 people

A typical day would consist of the following:

-Caring for established lawns by mowing, mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing

-Trimming and edging  sidewalks, entrances, flowerbeds and tree circles

-Lunch with the my other two co-workers

The most enjoyable part of the job, was working hard and a great sense of fulfillment when leaving a job site.

When I first started at Gateman-Milloy Inc. I didn't know very much about what kind of Construction company this was and the Equipment being used but I learned real quick with help and support from my coworkers. With every job it has its good days and bad days but for me I really enjoy working here. I've learned so much and I continue to learn!! 

, decent benefits, not overtimes hours, poor health and safety management, company vehicle,phone company, good work environment , there is not way to growth up professionally , winter job is given to old staff in other different than construction, the equipment is updated and the work is easy

I had a great experience at gateman. I got along with all of my co workers and all of the management. 
I was paid very reasonably and had a hard time saying goodbye when it was my time to leave.
They are really good at giving the younger/beginners an opportunity to get in a machine and become operators.

it was a terrible experience, if you are tired of developing and want only degradation in the future, then this is the best company, there are almost no live equipment, and you may be forced to work on broken equipment. Keep in mind that the company very often will not be able to provide you with a job
