Employees are to be at the shop for 6:30am-7:00am latest. Foreman's pick up their work orders and check in with managers to discuss work orders, workers check a board to see which formans they are working with and then depart from the shop. At the end of the day the work orders are handed into the office and time cards are filled out for pay. After starting at Gib-san I learned how to open; close and service pools, how to use power tools such as a Hammer Drill for removing tiles and a water polisher. As a helper you work with formans for a few days to a couple of weeks at a time and are rotated unless requested by a forman. This is great because it gives you an opportunity to get to know many people in the company and provides a sense of community. The biggest pull to me for this job is working outdoors and that you travel all around the GTA and outlaying regions. The hardest part is dealing with weather, the work gets done rain or shine unless the condition are to extreme to work safely, example severe thunderstorms, blizzards etc. All in all its a great place to work with opportunity for advancement in the company, they are also more then willing to train in  any aspect of the company, whether its pool service or pool building.

It's a family run business and you get the negatives of that. Swearing and screaming at people happens on occasion which is completely unacceptable in a workplace. I've seen people crying at their desks...And some in management are angry and will beat you over the head with every real and imagined mistake or problem. It is a negative place to work because of this. Good luck bringing up  your problems they're probably going to be from someone hired from within the family and complaining will be turned around back at you. There is a lot of talk about slower days in the winter to make up for the massive amount of unpaid overtime but you will get nothing close to the amount of time you put in during the summer. Even when you're working overtime it's not going to be noticed or appreciated because others are putting in so many hours that it makes it not good enough by comparison.   And you won't get paid extra because "it balances out it in the winter". It doesn't. If certain people in management  worked on their bad attitudes and appreciated their employees a little bit it would be fine but without that I would pass.

You come to the yard in the morning and look for your name at the board in the main office to find out which crew you'll be working with that day and for the most part you will remain with that crew. Everything is organised extremely well.
Everyone gets along well and always has a good laugh. Very supportive and enjoyable work environment with good people.
They are a classic a hard working construction company and push their guys hard, so if you dislike putting in overtime hours this may not be for you. But anyone with a good work ethic and personality will thrive here. The only reason I left was due to the long commute.

Anodizing technicians prepare extrusions to be anodized and Takes down anodized extrusions from anodizing racks and stacks for production and/or shipment.
•May perform simple welding build booms and repair aluminum drops
•Quality Inspection: checking material for conformance mill finish and anodized finish and comparing products to colour range samples

Depending on what mood the owner is in each morning at the yard, is how your days going to go. The company has a lot of turnover and the quality of the labourers working in service/construction that are hired is very poor. You can get a better job with more money elsewhere with a company who will treat you better no problem. Save yourself the headache.

During a difficult or high man-power type job, it is not uncommon to see several crews meet at a property in order to make that particularly strenuous task go faster. 

They’ll disrespect you in so many ways, it’s a “family business” which means that no one else matters… they will make fun of you and treat you like you are no worthy… your knowledge isn’t enough there and they would make a whole drama over small little things, do yourself a favor and get a better job than this

Gib-San is a great place to work and has great people to work with!! The days are busy and pass quickly! The company believes in teaching and training their people - growth and development of your position and of you personally is very important at Gib-San. 

The work was tough but always interesting. I learned a bit on how to but together P.V.C piping for filtration system for pools, hot-tubs, and I learned how to open pools at the beginning of the season and close them.

Great company. I learned a lot. Owner is amazing. Everyone there helped me succeed in my role. HR gave me the tools I needed to understand how to do my job.
