What is the best part of working at the company?
Graham is a Great company that looks after its  employees. Safety is built into the design and execution of the projects,  so there is no having to stop or slow the project to implement a safety plan or procedures at mid project. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
 Nothing was too stressful for me but if I was going to say anything would be to complete projects on time, safely, and profitably. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The projects I was involved in were predominantly healthy work environments. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I was a supervisor so a typical day was arriving early and immediately try to lay out the days work plan. Then develop an effective accurate tool box for the morning meeting. 
  Throughout the day would be a mix of reading plans and developing constructibility procedures, site visits reviewing the field level progression, review the crews progress and review the job hazard assessment paperwork to see if there was a way to improve the safety and efficiency of the daily activities.

Work day and hours are fine, pay is OK
Benefits are average 
Offer one free lunch on site once a week
Site staff is professional 
Management stresses on talent retention but doesn't follow through when there is a problem 
Hardest part of the job was not being able to eat for 14 days because boarding pass LOA was all delayed by a month
Rush to get newbies there but not ready to receive them,  very disorganized 
5 hour/longer delays between flights 
Expected to use your own personal credit cards or cash to pay for cabs, food, and even your hotel but they don't tell you this information until you have arrived.


I've been with Graham for almost 3 years. I love the people and the job itself, I have great co-workers. I have a great boss. I am in management and have been for the past year and a half. I love being there to help people the best way I can, as well as implementing new procedures and trying to make the job more efficient as well as maintainable. I believe I am a people person and love being in a leadership role because I see everyone's point of view and take everything into consideration upon making a decision.

The hardest part of my job is keeping up with the paperwork and the demand with all the cut backs in management. It gets very stressful at times but I always make goals to reach and keep on top of the workload. The most enjoyable part of my day is coming to work and seeing all my co-workers, I really enjoy working with the group of people we have here. I feel comfortable and at home in that sense. I am looking for more of a work-life balance, as it feels I am working 24/7.

This only applies to Fort McMurry.
Different positions have different rotations. Labour and operators force work a 14on 7off  12 hour shift with some layoff periods. Lunch is not paid time.
Mechanic shop is now only offering a 10/10 12hour shift. They used to have a 12 and 6 12 hour and some still work it but it is not being offered to the new hires. Also some have got a 10/4 then a 10/10 shift approved to reduce travel costs.

Fitters, welder and some other divisions work a 10/4 shift. It would be a better place if you could chose the shift you want.
Management at the shop is supportive, good to work for, less so on the operator  labour side of the company.
Most hiring still seem to get done through inside connections rather then through resumes.
Co workers are supportive and good to be around. Days are long but not overly difficult in most cases.

Was originally working for AECOM. Things were good. Then the division was bought by Graham Construction. The job has been in a steady downhill spiral ever since. Benefits once paid have been taken away. Extra perks gone. Most large companies look at their field level workers as numbers, but with Graham you're not even numbers. Just a warm body. There is zero room for advancement unless you're friends with the higher-ups. Working ridiculous hours with little-to-no notice is expected,  and made out as mandatory. If you refuse you'll be laid off so fast your head will spin. 
ZERO attempt by management to raise morale. No little perks, no employee recognition, no company functions (not even a Christmas lunch ffs!)

They only do the bare minimum for safety, have to be watched and told by the client they are working for. When they kill and or seriously injure too many people they just close up that subsidiary company and start another with a new name. Supervisors and foremen  are very impersonal. Push their workers to the limit and last minute of every day. No appreciation for the workers shown. Superintendents and foremen are busy running heavy equipment instead of the site, which is their job,  because they cannot retain any experienced workers due to the poor work environment. Insult workers constantly to their face, especially the labourers. Could go on and on but it is too depressing.

I would say the Foreman's in the supervisors were all awesome anytime I've ever worked for Graham Construction

Being part of a great team very safety orientated room for advancement if you're a good hard worker committed

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
For the most part it was good he always get the lazy ones there that's for sure they work harder not trying to work than actually work

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Head down and go to work get up wait for the van to pick you up and drive you up the mountain this was working at Tech mines in the Crow's Nest pass

It used to be a rewarding and enjoyable atmosphere. A real team feel.

So many meetings about expectations and micromanagement at all levels. Watching your back.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Old English boys fraternity. Bullying by management was frowned upon by some but the manager was good at his job so the discipline was nil.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Meeting after meeting and therefore end up working during your lunch break to catch up and work every night. Zero work life balance. Try to catch up so you won't be the meeting topic the following day.

The best part, was the other workers

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
You are working for the lowest paying job in Alberta and they expect shutdown/turnover work from you.   

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very Toxic. They lie to your face about things they don’t even HAVE to lie about.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Arrive at 7, watch the S show of formen picking crews of the people who showed up that day,  and then trying to assign trucks and making sure they had drivers in each crew.  Sit in the truck till 9 when permits were signed. Then go go go.

A day at Graham was always a good company to work for during the summer. There was always something to do and all of my co-workers on my crew were very helpful and always positive. I learnt lots for my first time on a industrial construction site. I learnt team work, physical labour, and personal discipline with the long hours all summer. The hardest part of the job was the hours. But keeping moving and busy all day definitely helped. The best part of the job was the people! Work is so much more enjoyable when you have an awesome crew to work with everyday. We all worked together very well and communicated just as good. All in all an awesome job for the summer!
