Possibly the most disorganized place I've ever worked. Despite constant emails, alarms and alerts nobody in Management has a clue what's going on. Multiple people share an office and still have a different version of events for each breakdown if they managed to concern themselves with it at all. Nobody in Management wants anything to improve they're just content to ensure they can point fingers at somebody else when things continue to spiral downhill. 

Despite constant comment from the director about carton quality improving and producing most they ever have it seems doubtful and misguided. Carton quality is still poor compared to even a year ago and of course there's more production the machines are running faster than they ever have. Its a shame 20 to 30% of production on every shift is recycled into the process because they're garbage cartons. 

There is a high turnover rate and a huge lack of training for new operators and supervisors. The gap between expectations and actual training is huge. Most new operators and supervisors are thrown to wolves as it were and just expected to figure it out because "the job isn't that hard and if they don't like they can leave" attitude from HR. 
 
The machines are in disrepair and its not uncommon for issues to persist for at least month; usually longer. Claims for it to get repaired next pit stop(next scheduled down day for a line) are a punchline to a bad joke as it most likely will not be repaired on pitstop or anytime in the near future. 

Safety is second at best. New lines are still missing even the most basic elements like handrails for stairs and higher speeds with minimum staffing.

There is a few positives; coworkers are generally ok people and the pay is decent if you can survive there day to day.

The place is a mess and it’s thick with stress that leaves you drained.  The managers don’t know what’s going on and people just blame one another for everything.  There is no support with supervisors, managers or coworkers. 

The clash between management and union pits everyone against each other and amplifies the confusion and pressure to meat unrealistic goals. 

Lots of people quit - reach out and ask them - it’s because newbies don’t get training, people are told to swim and drink from the firehose. No one makes informed decisions and breakdowns are constant and take forever to fix. 

Safety isn’t a concern. Management prefers to play make believe with half baked ideas that do nothing to keep people safe. Most areas don’t even have basic safety features and were expected to work fast with not enough staff. 

I hear that management says we need to hire better skilled employees. This tells us that we’re not appreciated and better employees wouldn’t stay working in such a horrible place. 

A decent paycheck is the only thing keeping employees at this sinking ship. Even that wears off when you consider the toll it takes on your physical and mental health. 

If you can handle chaos everyday, and need a paycheck, maybe it’s for you. But the place is a  breeding ground for burnout, frustration, and disappointment. You deserve better.

Its pulp and paper industry basically. Take recycled paper and make egg cartons out of it. The job itself isn't too physically demanding for the most part if youre an operator. If youre in maintenance its physically demanding and non stop as a poor maintenance program and a culture to run machines at 120% 24/7 have left them in poor condition.

Given the process its hot and humid in the summer and winter; but at least the winter is more manageable. 

Management is inexperienced or egotistical and generally just looking to be able to finger point when lines go down. Lots of management but nobody wants to make a decision. 

The culture is lack luster at best. Everything breaks constantly and leads to extra work on the operators to compensate. This doesn't make for happy workers or a happy work life. Always short staffed so lots of OT opportunities.

At the end of the day ive worked in worse; it was hot and fast paced with lots to learn from constant breakdowns. Coworkers were great and money was good. If you need work go for it.

In comparison to a lot of similar jobs in the area, this job pays better. Employees also receive an okay benefit package after 6 months of employment. 
However; in comparison to other jobs in the area, this facility is in poor shape and management needs work. Machinery is in less than ideal conditions and are a constant source of problems. There is a lack of re-investing into said machinery. 
Management has had quite a few changes over the past 5 years and for good reason  Poor communication between office staff and on-floor supervisors. Poor policy making skills and execution of policies.
Floor workers are unionized, therefore there are quite a few problem people the company can't effectively deal with. 
Ergonomics are bad.
All in all it is an okay factory job with a good rate of pay and benefits. Can be quite stressful and seem unfair at times as the work load isn't always equally distributed and bonus incentives create on floor supervisors who are only concerned with numbers and not equality.

Hartmann is the leader in our niche of the packaging industry and very well respected by our customers and industry peers. The company is very high growth and offers opportunity for those ambitious and willing to work hard.  As with any company, there are ups and downs.  Our industry can be challenging at times but I joined more than a decade ago and have never regretted my decision to join Hartmann.  It has been a very fulfilling career opportunity surrounded by people I enjoy.

Zero training nobody has time for you.
You have to get what they call "qualfied" on the equipment before anyone will let you do anything but they stick you cleaning egg cartons off the floor with a rake and a shovel and then complain and yell at you like your 5  that you don't know how to do anything. 

These people couldn't orchestrate a good plan if there life depended on it.
 7 am. start 3 of your 4 breaks are done by 1pm the last 6 hours of your shift you get one 20 minute break unless you're in the union then you get 30 minutes.

Everything looks like it hasn't been cleaned in 20 years.  Including the cafeteria if you want to call it that,  the roof leaks when you're eating.  Every machine is broken from running 24/7/365 management says keep running the machines we will fix them when they go down.

Everyone hates everyone and the job itself.  The only good thing is the pay being paid weekly is great.

Was there 5 weeks got told I wasn't working out, I guess I have to work on my raking and shoveling.  



Best group of hourly employees I have ever worked with, everyone was helpful and friendly. As part of the maintenance dept I was surprised there is no cmms or computer records of any type kept, i’ve been in maintenance for 28 yrs and I have never seen anything so archaic as this. Management was distant and slow to react to any request. They will pass the buck on any shift shortcomings down to the maint dept and expect no feedback on your performance until you are informed if you passed probation. From what I was told this management team is entirely new as the cleaned house in the past year, I expect this will probably happen again soon. Keep any H&S concerns you have to yourself until you pass probation as it is very lax. If you are considering a job here keep in mind it is filthy dirty facility and it’s loaded with rats and cockroaches. But the money is great

Decent company with good wage blah blah but some of the co workers are out to get you if you're new. They will hire you and have you work right up to your probationary period and fire you just because a co worker wasn't fond of you. They will give you no heads up if you are doing something wrong or how to improve but just go straight to the supervisors and complain which is ridiculous. Also a very unorganized company in terms of letting you know the schedule, so if you are trying to plan something in the future goodluck! Horrible communication, the workers are in little cliques like in highschool and if they don't 'like you' they will make up a lie and say you aren't doing your job. Most of them are lazy and sit on their phones while you work hard and don't care if you need help. Just a terrible experience overall and would not recommend wasting you're time with this company.

• physically demanding workloads and little acknowledge for suffering, if anything told you're either, not a good fit, too slow, didn't do enough or not knowing what you're doing but wont tell you how to do it.
• friendly to your face but will talk badly about you to others to push you out.
• told to preform well by management while making sure your coworkers are happy but will let you go before you hit the union as they then have to pay you more and compensate you.
• if you managed to teach yourself your role its fun to keep things running smoothly, assuming you mix well with your crew.


The pay is decent and the benefits are alright, some really great coworkers but an incredibly stressful working environment. Nothing ever gets fixed; whether it’s mechanical issues, poor production structure, or working conditions. Management is the worst I’ve ever experienced, I don’t know a single higher ups name other than my direct supervisors. The supervisors for the most part do the best they can, but are almost always micro managed by their immediate bosses. Maintenance and electricians are very knowledgeable and capable, but are given limited resources. In my experience the company is only interested in making money and pushing product out the door, with no regard for quality or customer service. If you really need the money there are worse places to work but in the long run it will take it’s toll on you.
