This job can be a good fit for students. The coworkers were friendly, and the overall atmosphere was usually positive. However, the training process definitely needs improvement. The training for the cash is good and people are usually able to pick it up quickly snd easily. But as a sales associate not so much. When you start, you get a quick tour and introduction, but after that, you're left to figure things out on your own. For example, when customers ask "What do you recommend for dry hair?" or "What's the difference between these two products?" you often have to rely on personal experience, things you read online, or simply checking the labels on the spot. Many of us, myself included, would sometimes improvise with answers like "Oh, this one is good" without really being able to explain why or what the actual benefits were-because we were never trained on it. Sometimes, we even told each other, "Okay, if a client asks about this, just recommend this one," because we had no official guide or product training to rely on.
Most of what learned came from my own initiative-trying products on myself, reading reviews online, or studying the shelves on slower days. I know you have to know a Little bit about hair and products but some structured training on the products would have made a HUGE difference for both employees and customers... 


Co-workers are friendly which brings a good dynamic to the work environment. Clients are fine for the most part. Tasks are not hard. 

Other than that, the manager is a different issue. They don't tell you when they hired you that you will be on probation for the three first months and use that to fire you without any legitimate reason. The manager that I had to deal with blocked me right after firing me which is very unprofessional and immature. I got fired for literally no reason. When you ask for more hours, you have to ask other employees to work less in order for you to get more hours which doesn't make sense. Overall, bad management, favouritism and hypocrisy especially from the manager. Wouldn't recommend only because of the managers and if you are a student. 

-The hardest part of the job is not being treated equally and not being given the respect that others receive in the department. Being shown every day that you are not wanted and finding excuses to blame you. Being criticized for everything you do and losing the ability to trust management entirely.  

-The most enjoyable part of the job is helping customers with the knowledge and passion I have for products and catering to their needs. Having a conversation with customers creates mutual respect between each others.

-The employees are extremely wonderful to work with and they make you feel welcome.  

Most of the coworkers & clients are nice. You get your occasional rude client, but hey that's life working in retail. 

But what really shocked me was the management. The company doesn't have proper structure. Weak leadership & weak communication from management. One of the reason is because of the language barrier. It would be much more professional if they hired qualified managers that are fluent in english and french. If you are late the management cuts your hours and if you are sick you have to worry about getting fired so there isn't any job security. Maybe a place to work as a first job in summer vacation if you're a high school student. I do not recommend working at this place.

There is nothing. They are Chinese-run businesses and they mainly employ black people.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The clientele is predominantly black. Many, but not all, of the guests reek of weed.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Asian managers and black salespeople work together.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Fill products and perform tasks as directed by managers.

Overall just your average beauty supply store. The shifts were very slow due to a lack of people coming in so you would seat for hours doing nothing hoping someone came in the store. However the store was brand new so lack of sales/customers is understandable. If there had been social media posts made of the stores grand opening or some kind of promotions, I think more people would’ve come in. Easy labour and very nice managers and co-workers. 

If you need a first experience, look elsewhere. Everything about this place is deceiving. Your managers will do actions 10 times worst which is worthy of them getting fired for and you’ll get terminated for something laughable. Horrible company culture with no benefits. They mentions giving employees a 20% discount which is truly 18.33%. They try to cut corners as much as they can. They use a ethnocentric staffing approach when you really look at the optics. Consider this job as your last resort, like a plan z.

There is favouritism and the company does not care for employees (they pretend they care). They only promote their own people. A lot of duties added without increase of pay and that mentally affects the staff. They keep restructuring the way to do things which make things worse every time.
Once you stand up for yourself or try to upper management, they will try to silence you or fire you in a slick way.

They are only looking out for their own best interest. Therefore they're not concerned about the employee getting better in their position and potentially moving up the ranks. They only want themselves to look good and you don't know what they're going to say about you behind closed doors. 

They really don’t care about employees , if something happens to you they don’t care. Managers are always talking behind your back and they keep adding rules but no salary augmentation for the tasks we have to do (cleaning,facing,customer service). Really strict work i loved my coworkers but hated the management
