I worked here about a year ago. At the time there was two groups, the old timers and us part times. The old timers staff dumped jobs on us younger ones so they could stand around and talk ironically about deserving more money . I thought The boss was too tough, constantly telling everyone to get back to work, didn’t like us joking around.  We couldn’t get time off easily and was told no time off in first year. I wasn’t allowed two weeks for vacation with family which I thought ridiculous. Old timers were favoured for holidays and time off so I quit.
Now I’m being trained for assist manager position in my new job and I get it. Senior staff have earned more perks. Part time has been hired to fill in the gaps and learn (and earn) promotion. I see now that management has to accommodate older senior staff first. The boss had tried to help part times when he could but could only do few days at a time. Now I know get it.
I still shop here with my mom and heard that the older jerks don’t work here anymore. Thank god. Nasty ladies. I say hi to the boss and he’s very nice so no grudges obviously. Wish I could tell him I am sorry for being so demanding when I hadn’t deserved it yet. For not yet understanding the customers come first. The customers were great and I go to know a lot of them If I stuck it out maybe I would have been promoted. Looking back, it was a fun job to start if I took it more seriously

Overall it wasn’t an awful place to work, it’s good for people who are just getting started in the food industry or are very experienced— For someone in the in between crowd I found it very difficult to find where I fit in. This would be an amazing job for someone willing to work very, VERY hard. 

I liked the people there but after 3-4 o’clock o Monday-Saturday and pretty much all day on Sunday there’s no management which makes it hard to, “appeal to the customers experience” like they expect. It’s often very frustrating when just starting out to help customers as there’s nobody in charge helping you and it can be overall frustrating to go to a manager with every person you help because you simply don’t know the answer the customer is inquiring about. 

The store also produces a lot of plastic waste, wrapping every individual dish and meat section with plastic wrap every night then throwing it out in the morning, I know it’s a standard practice but I wish Heritage would use a more environmentally friendly approach. 

I was diagnosed as having a repetitive strain disorder in both my upper arms due to excessive custom cutting in the deli department. Management refused to abide by my doctors orders, and it got worse. Was eventually told to quit or face the risk of permanent damage in both my shoulders by my doctor. Management did not take my resignation well, which is an understatement..

Not a bad company to work for, but good luck trying to get management to co-operate with you if you get injured on the job. And put on lighter duties to allow the injury to heal. Had this happened I would have been with the company longer. Because despite the problems, I did enjoy working there. 

if you are looking for a job this would be your last resort. they are willing to hire anyone who has any experience/ no experience. They don't respect the long term employees. And give bonuses to the people who don't deserve it. i have worked there for almost 2 years and when i asked for 1 extra day of work they told me there was no work to be had. They give priority for extra hours for new employees. The long term staff are often given minimal hours and are expected to be on call on their days off, which can be very disruptive to your personal life. Expect top notch work for minimal wage. Quit for a better job with more hours. 

Fixated schedules means enough hours, but it is way too difficult to book days off or call in sick. There is too many staff but no one will cover shifts at all. Special people will always get every single weekend off, good hours, and any days they want off! - favoritism is pretty cool. The manager will tell you that you're valuable yet you will be treated like garbage and paid like it too. 
Anyone who is not in a manager position like the long haired cashier with glasses, both butchers, the very old deli worker; you will be given the grunt work and made to feel unwelcomed. 
Save your time.

Bad Environment - The senior staff just talks and gossips around. They can completely ignore customers if they are busy chatting at the back and see yourself just doing all the work. 
NO TEAMWORK AT ALL!

Poor Management -No scheduled manager or supervisor at closing time or weekends which makes it hard to answer some of the customers inquiries. 

(there's a few self appointed managers and supervisors that will boss you around )




I would not like to be a young person coming into the work force and this being their first experience. 
If your a mature person let me warn you...
STAY AWAY!!!
The management will tell you anything you want to hear to get you in.
If you are not liked you will be pushed out fast.
There is nothing but, lying, backstabbing, drama and complete lack of maturity from the top down.
So there's is your warning.
Doesn't matter what experience you have and how hard you work doesn't make a difference to them.

 

The staff is really good and mostly help each other. Except older lady and girl who talks trash about everyone but smiles doing it.. I get as many hours as I want mostly and allow to get even more for cover shifts. Time off harder to get for family trip  so I can’t go but I guess that’s the way it goes. The manager is really nice and encourage me. I love my job!!!

Very fun job, filled with lot's of different learning opportunities. The staff is very friendly, and are always willing to help. Full-timers make above minimum wage, which makes you feel appreciated for your hard work. Overall, a great place to work, if you're willing to work hard!

Great owner, Great managers, Great team.
One the few butcher shops in Langley doing it right! A great environment where they are willing to train and have patience to train. Busy so the day goes quickly. Overall a fun place to work.
