My time at this company has been nothing short of dismal. The work environment is toxic, characterized by overwork, outdated equipment, and a blatant disregard for health and safety protocols. Most of the staff are visibly miserable and lazy, creating a depressing atmosphere that's palpable daily.

HR's role seems to be solely to protect management, with no genuine concern for employee well-being. Complaints are never addressed professionally, and issues often go unresolved. The lack of communication between coworkers and management exacerbates the problem, making teamwork nearly impossible.

Expectations are unrealistic; you're required to handle the workload of multiple people but compensated as if you're doing the job of just one. Benefits are meager and hardly justify the effort and stress involved. Additionally, the department heads are unapproachable and downright mean.

Gossip and drama run rampant, and management does nothing to curb the abusive behavior from customers. To make matters worse, there are no company events or parties to foster a sense of community—just a facade of appreciation with a customer-only ice cream truck that management misleadingly implied was for employees.

Overall, this company fails to support its employees and lacks basic respect for their hard work. I would strongly advise against working here.

A lot of injured employees due to repetitive heavy lifting in insufficient cramped workspaces. Expect to lift and pull more then 50lbs. 1000s of foods and order pickers must memorize: food locations within multiple departments, different food names for the same food item, tell apart orders to pick and not to pick and some prep and pack instructions not specified because the warehouse management system does not provide this info you're just suppose to remember. Expect to handle dead animals, heads, hearts, kidneys, lungs, spleen, brains, blood, etc. Nice owners, some friendly staff, but there's a lot of gossip and arguments to. Weekly pay, consistent scheduled shifts, steady breaks and the shift goes by fast. You're expected to complete your position's duties each shift, so work fast if you have an independent position because you're expected to stick around until you're done. If you're done your position early, you can potentially leave with permission or stick around to help someone out 

I refused to use a saw that was not up to safety standards. This saw is a dangerous weapon that has the blade constantly fall off, along with the wheel that holds the blade! Yup the whole unit just falls apart! 

So I refused to run it and oddly enough was fired the next week for being to slow(I've only been cutting meat for 4 months!) So yeah i was slower than the guys who have been doing it for years and decades!! I was also told that I was slashing too much. Granted I made a few mistakes but there are guys there who have been doing this as long as I've been alive and slash pieces like they are new like me!

Overall this place is dangerous, unsanitary, and no communication. Not once was I told by any management that I need to pick up the pace or given any warnings or write ups. I would not recommend working here. Everybody in the place is miserable and cry about how unsafe and low quality some of the meat that comes through that place is...DO NOT BUY THE GROUND MEAT!!

I'm glad I'm done with that dump!

During my time at the company they exhibited troubling patterns such as unequal treatment, horrible communication, and questionable management, notably from the main general manager. It wasn't just about special treatment; it felt like some employees were handed golden tickets getting away with most bizarre things while the rest of the employees navigated through a maze of unfairness as this is felt by many of the employees working there. The department's dedication seemed to vanish into thin air, met with indifference rather than acknowledgment. The workload at time was more than stressful, and gratitude doesn’t exist in that workplace. What's more disheartening is the pervasive sense that individuals were mere numbers, replaceable and inconsequential to the company's outlook. Clock in, clock out and repeat.

I worked at Highland for a brief stint and I'll give a rundown. The manager in the back works maybe 2-3 hours a day then chills and expects everybody to run around like fish and do everything perfectly. Very little communication and super lazy. They don't train you and if you mess up they get angry. The co-workers are super chill and friendly for the mostpart but there are some snakes in the grass. Some co-workers will sprint to a manager chewing you out before even telling you how to properly do something. And their biggest flex is weekly pay. I wouldn't recommend working here unless you seriously need the money. Even then it's a stretch as you can find much better jobs for $18.25 an hour.

They'll hire you as one thing than blindside you the day you start, throwing you somewhere completely opposite of original job title. On top of that, they don't exactly train just leave you to figure it out. Slaughterhouse so have a good stomach bc I've seen them hire people for forklift and throw them in back hanging newly dead piglets, pigs etc that are still warm and bloody then show you the door when you say anything. Lots of games and when people write you feel like a number, you definitely do here. Yes alot of plants are like that but this place takes the cake.

honestly wouldnt suggest this place but not the worst place i worked at for a couple months just to fill in time between jobs. decent co workers, just the management dont do anything. youll see them once or twice in a 10-12 hour day. only really the owners son cared about the staff in the back room. management out front seemed to be amazing though, always seemed to be ahead of their game. mind you at this place i was working 7 machines., vac packing and lead grinder doing a 4 man job getting paid $14.00 hr... so yeah. if youre not a work horse, wouldnt suggest it.

Good place to work all depending on the department you are assigned to. Gotta watch out for certain managers and HR always looking for ways to screw you and throw you under the bus at any chance gotta watch your back.

Work pace is very fast all production based, lots of nepotism in this plant, good job if you’re in between jobs always decent hours but long term you don’t see many people stick around and there are many reasons for that.

Terrible company. Very unwelcoming towards new people.  All lies and deception. Got hired for shipping and spent my first few days gathering cut off pig heads and boxing them. ( not shipping) Then bagging dead pigs on Hooks. I had 2 other workers yell at me and use profanity towards me for no reason.  There was no training or safety  involved with the job at all , basically you just follow suit and hope you can keep your head above water long enough not to get fired.

Unless you know/related to someone already here, DON'T EVEN TRY.
Not allowed to learn other jobs
Expect to be bullied with no one who will back you up
Wasn't trained.  They were too busy even though one person stood around most of the time.
No communication from manager or room supervisor.  
If you are doing something wrong, please wait about 5 months before they will tell you as they are yelling at you for not doing it the way they want.
