Life at sea is not for everyone. It can teach you a lot about yourself, your work ethic, and about people from around the world. I used my time with this company to grow as a guide and to see places around the world I had never been to before. This job was great in the sense that, as a travel guide, I was given many opportunities to go out on tours, to have my own personal space, and to not be absolutely overloaded with work all the time. We worked where we lived and we lived where we worked, so there was really no line separating your personal and work life. As a guide I found my managers on board the ship to be much more helpful than anyone from corporate headquarters. They delegate so many thousands of employees from their Seattle offices, that I can imagine many may get lost in the mix. So, it was up to me as a new employee to rely on myself to prepare presentations, which I had no clue about until I was in the middle of everything. Networking with other guides was key, to prepare for my next contracts with circulating materials. And some management on board cared about nothing but themselves, so that was frustrating. But, all in all, it was an experience I benefitted from for sure.

I learned a lot of new lessons there, such as being able to operate several machines and heavy equipment, which I couldn't do on a ship before.
I also feel my metallic resilience getting stronger and growing.
Then, I can learn how we can establish a really good relationship with all the employees there, not just the work team.
because, we have lived together, for a long time, so we are the ones who really have to be able to maintain our togetherness and feelings and be able to overcome them, by not creating problems with anyone. and learning to maintain friendships, self-control, and also teamwork, that was extraordinary for me. So, friends can become like family there.
Even regarding salary, I think it is more than enough, because we can be said to be able to save most of our money while on the ship.

I worked shortly and the experience was not pleasant, from HR department not able to solve the problem I report ,instead just to make sure in a short time I had to leave , even I report shore side the hotline but nothing was done Carnival Corporation simple ignored. I had to pay my own ticket and expenses. They found my problems not a problem. Careful with racism , there is no equal opportunities , if you are Dutch everything  will come ,otherwise  even with the most degree we will not succeed . Rarely  and with allots of covering the problems that happen.
Hours of work , they don't follow  the protocol, simply whole cover.. again careful , good just for Indonesians , they can be just wonderful and hard working and patient., they will never complaint .
Suggestion's, go, just to try but not to expect a good future. 
To finish ....the people that I complain about it , after I leave the company they were either fired or they left in a short time . I wrote a big report about what was going there....

efficient and fun workplace together with my co  worker and our superior, i have a lot of learnings in dealing my everyday duty  such as  repairing pumps and motors, fabricating pipes.. i learned also to become a better person and understand all things. the management were very kind in thier crew, they listening in our needs and they  gives us a consideration..   i have no problem with a workplace culture because we  respect the values, belief and system of each other. the hardest part of the job  is fabricating the materials  which is not found  or available in the ship,  and also a alignment  of motor and pump using dial gauge. the enjoyable part of the job  is when i finished my job order very fast and my supervisor is happy and  contented for what im doing..

I really enjoyed the three years I spend with the company. The management is great and the job itself was as advertised. 

Co-workers were great, all did their job fanstastic and had great customer service. 

Employees come back year after year which is great to see.

My typical day was start work at 7am, greet guests as I arrived to the sales office. As coaches loaded to leave for their next destination I would thank all guests for visiting. Next few hours guests who are staying multiple nights would come into the office and purchase tours or get information on things to see in the city. Greet new coaches and do it all again.

Working hours are day and night time because I was a dining room Steward (Waiter). When I was on the ship I learn a lot of culture and learning how to live in the defferent atmosphere with defference of nationality.And the most important things how to manage the time ,emotional,also money. We should work together as a team work to give excellent quality service.The hardest part is away from the family ( Wife,children ) But the most enjoyable is traveling around the world without paying anything . Another world working on the cruise ship is very enjoyable .

I loved working for Holland America was with them from 1997 to 2014, left due to injury.
Holland America treats their staff with respect and respects the cultural differences as we are a multi cultural line.
Hard work, long hours however, the benefits are well worth it. 
A great company one I highly recommend.

First experience work on cruise ship pretty amazed how people do work for long hours to provide services to more then thousand people a day.
And seeing the world while we work for free is priceless, no matter how tired and long hours for work the whole contract.
Multi tasking job and be ambassador for our own country to the passenger introduce our culture.

Have a lots knowledge when it comes in service in fine dinning and hotel outlet. Lot's of knowledge in wines and cocktails. Working in the cruise industry for about almost 20 yrs. in the company of one high class cruise ship in all over the world. Holland America lines we always create one's in a life time experiences at all times.

I am working in the pastry. I am in charge in the whole production of pastries for various outlets in the ships restaurant. I am in charge of the hotel food storing, making it safe and maintaining good quality of the baked products. ensuring the proper rotation of food items. assisting my executive chef in some aspect of the operation.
