I worked in the parts department and summers were hectic and winters were dead. Always over staffed in the winter and under staffed in the summer due to coworkers taking holidays.
Typical day was answering phones or helping on the front counter. 
Some positives working there was quarterly bonuses and three weeks holidays. (although if you were sick you were forced to use holiday time.) The pay was also slightly above average for the trade. Other positives was that I worked with good coworkers for the most part and discounts were given on John Deere and branded merchandise. 
Some negatives would have to be the corporate atmosphere. You really had to drink the company Kool-Aid working there. Also coffee breaks were UNPAID. I repeat UNPAID! I was not told this during my interview and had I known that all breaks were unpaid I wouldn't have taken the job opportunity. Not only were breaks unpaid but no one else in the parts department took coffees so you were expected to not take one and just have 30 minutes every day deducted off your pay.
Also they supplied 3 work shirts when you were hired and expected to pay 50% for each shirt after that. You also had to pay for all PPE (but strangely they did supply $125 for boots but made you pay for everything else lol). The on call pay was way below average for industry standard. 
All in all i do recommend working there if you are into farming or agriculture. 
In the end for me it just seemed like management was always trying to cut costs anyway they could even if it meant the workers suffered. 


Martin Deerline has been an excellent place to work and it hasn't felt like your everyday "drag my feet to work" type job. I'm actually excited to come to work because I don't believe it's really what you do for work, but who you do it with. And let me tell you, the staff have been amazing and really treat you like family (sounds cliche I know). At first I thought it was just the Edmonton West branch, but then I've had the opportunity to visit a variety of branches and it's been the same feeling across the board. You see staff members joking around, making each other laugh, but still working towards whatever their common goal is. When you can laugh with fellow co-workers, it helps make the day go by faster and gives you a great feeling of pride. 

All in all, if you're looking for a career at any Martin Deerline location, I would highly recommend it.

Lastly, I haven't been asked or required to post this review (it's completely anonymous and voluntary). I just feel like it's a great place to work and wanted to post my thoughts to help you, a potential future co-worker, find an amazing career path with an outstanding company.

The priorities and objectives of the department changed on a weekly or even daily basis. Just as you think you figured out what you were to focus on, management changed the focus and you had to shift priorities yet again. The company claims to put its customers first. Unfortunately, loyal customers are charged full price but a one-off customer who complains about a bill gets it for free. Staff are constantly being micromanaged. For such a "large" company with over 300 employees, they don't have an HR department that an employee can go to for assistance. I'm sure in its prime, Martin Deerline was a family-focused business. Now, it has put the profits of its shareholders over the happiness of its employees. 

This was my first career job that I had and I couldn't ask for a better place to start at. Everyone was so welcoming and so helpful and that it made the big shop not so scary. Jokes and laughs were expected working in the shop and getting to know the people up front was awesome as well. They had different events going on all the time from a day to try out the 4wheelers to going and cleaning the combines to make them look pretty for demos at northlands. To pancake breakfast for the public and so on. Martin deerline will give an open welcoming hand to anyone they see or meet and that's why i loved working for them!

Most staff are easy to get along with and good to work with.  Store manager needs to be less of a friend and more of a manager at times.  He needs to follow through with staff and clients in a timelier manner. If a staff member is on probation and have had conversations about their performance being lacking, he has to be willing to let them go and move on to the next one rather than extending the probation if they are not capable of the tasks they are assigned.

Decent size workshop and pretty well supplied. Great crew, everyone is friendly and willing to help. I appreciate the knowledge and training I am receiving and the support of most of my co-workers, especially from the shop foreman. Like everywhere, communication can be poor at times. Guaranteed full hrs every week even when it's slow at times. Extra hours to pick up when gets busy. Good on-call schedule for a family man. Company offers good benefits and fair wage. Overall, great dealership to work for and would recommend to anyone.

Working at Horizon Ag & Turf is mostly a good time especially with my co-workers as we bond quite well and make the days as fun as possible. One clear issue is our management situation and how we cannot keep someone in that position for very long. Our Management needs to step up as it does affect the Part Techs. Benefits are very good and honestly the best i have had in any job. Some days are way better then others but i make the most of my days at work. Overall a good place and Company to work for!

Great company with a great atmosphere in a rapidly changing industry! Technology has been advancing very fast and Martin Deerline keeps its employee's informed and up to date with information and training. When it comes to time off, whether it be holidays or time needed for appointments, management has always been very accommodating. Happy employee's with positive morale makes coming to work everyday enjoyable. If any part of agriculture interests you Id recommend Martin Deerline.

Work and work peers were great.  It is s avery non inclusive environment.  If someone gave a negative review to the company, their names would be spread around the coffee table.  There was little confidentiality of clients information or workers.  An injured worker was pushed to leave their position.  It was known that everyone was to  make their lives difficult.  After that I ran.

A pathetic interview, but even worse a terrible company.  No raises in the entire 5 years I worked there in the parts department.  None, and the other part techs also received none.  Coffee breaks are not paid for and are deducted from your pay as you don't punch in and out for them.  So 30 minutes each day are deducted from your pay even though most of the time you don't get the coffee break.  They pride themselves on a good benefit plan, well it is below average at best.
