Horton CBI

Have worked for CBI a couple times now. Don't think I will do it again. Management would like you to believe that safety comes first, but the reality is basically the same as any other site in Alberia, only if it doesn't interfere with production. 
These guys consistently contravene the contracts that they are signatory to and have absolutely no concern for any employee. 
The safety staff from head office love to flap their gums and try to have you believe in their 'three core values', Safety, Ethics, Teamwork when they decide to show up on site. Truth is ethics and teamwork is a total joke. Ethics are morally reprehensible. Teamwork only if it's needing a hand to push the knife deeper in someone's back and safety only because it is a value being forced and preached by industry!  Knee jerk reactions by the company have forced employees to don so much PPE that it actually causes stress and injury to the body. 
Great place to work if you're in the 'clique' on whatever job site you land on. If supervision doesn't like you for any reason, they will terminate your employment with as little notice possible, and then leave you hanging on your own outside whatever camp or site you are at. 
 This is a great place to be if you are a company stooge and a backstabber!  Just be prepared for your own backstabbing when you least expect it!

I really enjoyed working for HortonCBI.
A typical day at work consisted of arriving by bus to Suncor, stretching and having routine safety meetings before the start of everyones shifts, then going over positions for the confined space attendants. We worked on a rotation of 1-2 hours on site usually, then a 1 hour break. At designated working areas we were to sign workers in and out of the confined spaces, make sure they were attired in proper PPE, and keep track of what time, as well as how many people were in the confined spaces.
Days were long but I enjoyed constantly working and being productive. 
I learned a lot about working on an Oil Sands site and about safety procedures.
Safety is a major part of working on any construction site and isnt to be taken lightly, as we are faced with dangers every day and have to know how to avoid and prevent injuries.
The company was well managed and I would like to work with HortonCBI again some day.

Very dynamic and intense work environment which is typical for the construction industry. Makes it hard to have a dull or boring day which is a great plus. 

Sometimes the stress can get a bit overwhelming but great co-workers and team environment help to manage that effectively.

Great learning opportunities especially if you are willing to take on the extra work but recognition is hard to gain. Management is away from work location and has no idea what is going on most of the time.

I enjoyed working there, most of the days I worked in the carpenter shop.
I learned that you should share the work load and not try and do everything yourself.
The management was great to work for.
On the average, considering the job lasted 11 months everyone seemed to get on good with each other, at the end of the day the job was done.
Working in the cold temperatures or when it rained.
Always made the best off the work place, had to have a joke now and again to have a good laugh.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Unsafe working practices at a plant that had a death in the company before this incident.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Working with people who work in a manic state , not paying attention to safety at times. Not able to report safety incident effectively with out blow back


What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Their actions do not coincide with the vison of the company.

taking cold hard steel and shaping it into a product to serve the communities needs where ever in the world
Learning a trade and then using it with all employees working together to get a job done and enjoying what the final product actually looks like to understand what it is and it's uses
Management was pretty good to get along with and applauded the employees for jobs well done.

days went by well.Everyone worked well together and we accomplished our goals. Management was helpful and worked well with us.hardest part of job was working away from home.easiest part was being with a crew that worked well together and was like family and made being away easier. learned alot of print reading computer skills leadership practices. safety culture was excellent and well used and adhered to.

10 hours long learned how to communicate with different people all over the country, management were great gave us direction when we needed it and didn't get in the way when we were working. 
the hardest part would have been working 10 plus hours everyday with limited days off 
the money was the best part

Paying good money to have a good life balance, hardwork but enjoyable once you see your paystub and really good they make sure you have your all proper safety gadgets before they send you to the job sites 

This was my first company after finishing University. Overall is a good company to work for. They take the time to teach you the ropes and help you become a leader. Management must get involve with workers and young supervisor. Beside offices politics this company is great
