I worked as a "Santa's Helper" for two consecutive Christmas seasons. The job involves working with 1-3 other people (depending on the expected customer volume) in short, 3-5 hour shifts. Stations include line (chatting up folks waiting in line, coloring with kids at the coloring table, answering questions anyone waiting might have), line head (talking to the family at the head of the line and finding out children's names, ages, what they want for Christmas, etc to tell Santa before bringing the kids up to meet him), photography (taking the photos of kids with Santa on a laptop hooked up to a camera and controlling lights, putting photos on USBs and handing them off), and assistance (assisting any other stations as needed). You work without management supervision and generally without breaks due to the short shifts, and must wear red/green/white with the option of black pants - Christmas accessories are strongly encouraged. The way things run is very relaxed. Pay is above minimum wage.

The first year was good, management was helpful and supportive, shifts were frequent with just enough days off, everyone got along. The second year management had changed and become fairly aggressive and critical, shifts were too frequent - I had two scheduled days off throughout the entire season - and everyone I spoke to agreed they would not be returning next year. One Santa we had didn't seem to be remembering children's names, was grumpy and a sometimes rude, and often came with his costume poorly put on. Because he'd been working as Santa for several years management refused to consider our concerns.

Work as a Guest Services Representative in Guildford Town Centre is always exciting as I get to meet and assist customers to the Mall giving them directions, selling Mall gift cards, answering queries, addressing their immediate needs, making sure they leave the Mall with a happy experience, etc. 
There is never a dull moment during my shift. I enjoy working with my colleagues, my supervisor, the management team, Security and House Keeping and of course the Tenants.There is a strong cooperation and support among the different departments and companies that make up the whole Guildford Town Centre work organization 
There is hardly a hard part of my job at the desk. There are disgruntled customers and most often it is we at the desk who receive the brunt of their anger and frustration but of course we know that most of them are just venting out their feelings, nothing personal and just by listening to their complaint helps them calm down. We give them coffee cards and other giveaways.  
Most enjoyable part of the job is seeing customers smile, being greeted by them and especially watching their faces light up after we help them with their queries and giving them suggestions with their shopping.
The management is always supportive and are always ready to assist us with isolated concerns that involve management decision.

I worked at Metrotown as mechanical lead-hand in charge of 5 building operators and 2 electricians.  I took the job so I could gain experience supervising staff. I was asked to create multiple spreadsheets and provide 3 quotes for everything which took me away from checking all the equipment and reviewing staff work in which then I was belittled. I was forced to have my staff perform unsafe work and when they refused my manager blew a fuse. I was asked to lie to tenants so they didn't have to pay for emergency work. I was never supported and only my mistakes were pointed out. There was favoritism towards one of the electricians because they were friends who eventually got promoted with no supervisory, technical or managerial experience. When I left they needed two people to do the job that I was doing. Extremely stressful, poorly managed, high-paced, a toxic environment, no work-life balance, availability 24/7 with no compensation, not enjoyable at all.

I learned the leasing part of the Retail Industry and how it operates.

Management was professional and I enjoyed the challanges. I had helpful co-workers especially since it was a short term contract position. The hardest part of the job was picking up without a hand over.

The enjoyable part was being invloved in projects and learning new ways of managing a senior managers office.

I worked there for less than a year as I was not really interested in the type of work I was doing.  It was office clerical work and I moved on to furthering my schooling in a field I preferred after this job.

The clerical duties were demanding as I worked for five different managers and was constantly interrupted by demands from outside clients.  It was not well organized in terms of the job set up.

Overall my experience was enjoyable being a receptionist and administrative assistant.  Answering the switchboard and meeting and greeting people was my highlight of a typical day.  Helping staff from outside and inside of the office in all departments was a great learning experience for me.  The environment is always friendly and professional.  Most enjoyable part was answering the switchboard.

Opening the mall, updating information and getting ready to meet customers, providing information about the Mall, keeping in touch with security and assisting in various problems which may occur.

The most enjoyable part of job was helping customers with small ch children, participating in Mall promotion activities for Halloween or Christmas.

In two years that i worked for the company i loved it. I was super sad to leave but im glad i had the opportunity since the job and my colleagues expanded my knowledge administrative tasks.

Although the people are great, and compensation is great, there are no opportunities for moving up in the company unless you're willing to relocate often. May be good for something that just wants to work the same job but not great for the younger generations that would like to advance their career and grow their knowledge.
