On paper, they appear to be safety-focused and have all the commonly accepted policies and procedures. Have even been recognized for safety and won safety awards (many years ago). In reality; if you do ever need to use any of the personal time you’re allotted by contract (Holidays, Personal Time, Sick Leave) which are all unpaid days - with the exception of Holidays - they will find someone else to fill your position who DOESN’T use as many of their rights as you do. They are well-known for bringing in immigrant labour for positions at all levels, and if you talk to those workers, they will explain that they are happy to have their job and will work very hard to keep it, often meaning they are working while sick or injured. Many of the ones I’ve spoken with have been forced to come in for O/T shifts by being misled into believing they did not have the right to refuse the shift and would be disciplined should they do so.

This does mean the company as a whole can likely reach their targets, but at a great cost to their front-line employees’ health and safety.

Very much a “this is the way we’ve always done it.” approach, even when implementing new technologies - they simply buy something new and shiny and put it into their old framework. This outdated mindset and them applying what they’ve learned in agriculture  to their staff in order to treat them as livestock creates a very unstable, dangerous and toxic workplace.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Some really good employees to work with, but not very many and a day without having to deal with supervisors is a good day.  So actually, the best part is going home…

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Dealing with supervisors who are on power trips and are only looking to scold employees like children when most have no idea what the employees job entails.  They also refuse to take any responsibility for errors they make, it is blamed on the employees.  It is a horrible place to work, so glad I am out of there!!

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Everyone is stressed to the max there, the lunchroom should be a happy place, but it is a place to air grievances with fellow employees.  Everyone knows the union is powerless and can’t do a thing to help or guide employees, so everyone is basically on an island when it comes to any assistance 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful and painful, you wanna get there as late as possible and leave as soon as possible.  You have to deal with incompetent supervisors who tell you to do the wrong thing.  You tell them it won’t work and they get upset, so you do as they say and everything plugs up or the line shuts down and you just keep your mouth shut and clean up the mess.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Going home, going for break with other employees

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The management who have no clue how to manage people and have no empathy for employees dealing with issues…not worth the wages

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It is unnecessarily stressful due to poor management and their lack of accountability and transparency…soooo glad to be out of there, please don’t work there, it simply not worth the stress and your sanity 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Wake up and you wonder what will go wrong today and you hope you don’t see any of the incompetents (managers) during your shift.  You know your job and what you are doing and a manager will come by and tell you how to do your job and you have to tell them that what they want won’t work and they get upset at you for not listening.  Then they tell you to do it and you know it’s gonna make a mess, so you do it and sure enough their idea doesn’t work and there will be product everywhere and they just leave and never help with their mess they created.

Not a good place to work. There is no communication between the people working on the floor and management. The only thing they care about is there bottom line and reducing cost, doesn't matter what quality of work being done. They don't value you or your time, don't matter how times you bail them out. They rather give work to a contractor then let you do  overtime. The management don't have a clue about the type of work being done and just complane that it's not being done without giving the proper tools and direction. The management talks about teamwork but their sienor guys don't what to teach the new guy. The  work environment is toxic everyone just talk behind each other back and just complane to management about how bad off a worker you are. Would not recommend working here.

What is the best part of working at the company?
We had our own facility for electricians and a small but functional shop to work out of.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
When a break down occurred the management was relentless about getting it running again and made it a poor atmosphere to troubleshoot. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Overall good but could be cut throat depending on who you worked with and for.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Coffee cross shift talks if you got along well with crossshift. Gather work orders and gear and head out to plan your day of maintenance and repairs.

What is the best part of working at the company?
It used to be ok when managers payed union dues like all other employees ..now the union defends mangers for free and they seem to come up with custom rules was also better with drug testing, grade 12 min required

Lack of staff incompetent managers custom rules bad insurance provider poor union,  poor health and safety 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I ve seen worse I ve seen better ,maintenance needs to get better lock out lag out need to get reorganized they may need to fix the roof

It's a Great company as paywise but the work for employees were too much fast paced and stressed with 15 day shifts and 15 night shift with rotating schedule makes you feel more tired but for supervisor its good as workwise but still shifts are sane dor them as well otherwise it's a great opportunity for an O.T. where they offered way more money earning opportunity for employees. It's a best job if you live in portage la prairie. They also help to winnipegers for transit bus in free which is really helpful.

Everyone at Simplot was extremely welcoming,and helpful to help new ppl learn the job.
There dress code is something I really supported.
Upper mamagement has too many family members, if 1 hates you,best you quit, as the rest will gang up on you. There is also positive to it. Each person has a pro and con same goes for companies. It is not easy to find a con at J.R. Simplot, as JR Simplot is the best career I ever had,and would go back anyday and recommend it to anyone

No real job security or seniority here. New hires are given any shift they want, experienced guys are pushed to different shifts. Will be on 3rd manager now, first left for pea plant, taking most of the long term guys. Second took a promotion. No idea who will run the show now. If you use the leave benefits, fellow employees and managers have an issue with it. In short, keep your head down, your mouth shut on anything but work.
