From the moment I joined the team, I was impressed by the level of professionalism and expertise exhibited by the company in managing its logistics operations.

I was responsible for ensuring the timely and efficient services to our customers, and I can confidently say that I was able to achieve this, thanks to the excellent support and resources provided by the company. The team is always available to answer any questions I have and provided me with the necessary tools to perform my job at the highest level.

Just stay away. When I worked there, if you stopped for a min or two and the owner seen you not working( on the cameras they have in the office) he would soon be out to yell at you. 
The yard manager at the time ended up quitting as he wasn't able to develop any of the workers and do what he thought would benefit them. 

I got injured while I was there. I went back to work with a sling on my arm as I was told I would get support from the other areas of the yard if needed. That was far from the truth. I told them I was not able to work like that. I had workers comp and I think it was an investigator from W/C there to evaluate the work I needed to do. When I was asked to go for a day while they were there. The investigator was told I no longer had a job there. 
As I refused the back to work program. 

I refused cause they lied about what they promised me and I wasn't not able to work with 1 arm. In the end they lied to Unemployment, and broke different laws while I was injured. After a year or more I was able to work, and had to have surgery a few years later to actually repair my shoulder.
I haven't heard anything good about that place since I left. Just stay clear of that place.

If you enjoy being blamed, yelled at and lied to, this is the place for you.  

Turnover in all areas of the business is constant. 

Owners will yell, demean, insult and blame for anything they deem to be less than acceptable to them.  They also do it so often, they don't know why people get upset about the treatment.   This attitude is contagious and most of their (temporary) senior managers will pass this treatment onto the people below them as a way to deflect the abuse.

Your vehicle will have a GPS tracker.  No they will not tell you and go to great lengths to hide it's existence.  

I will always remember how all of the clients you meet were surprised when they saw you for a second/third time.   Employees rarely make it that far.

John Ross & Sons is a terrible place to work.  The Owners only care about the bottom-line and making money, and will compromise employee health & safety to do so. .It's only a matter of time before someone is either killed or seriously hurt in their workplace. 

The Owners will also not take any accountability for the decisions they make, and will instead seek out members of their staff to place the blame.  They show zero respect for their staff and will yell, berate and demean their staff in group settings.  Turnover is extremely high as people only stay until they can find another job.

I loved working there and the salary and people are great.  I just felt like I was trapped in my position and there was no where to go.  There were a ton of responsibility to take on, but no more money or benefits.   

I still miss everyone and I will be forever grateful for what I learned there.  

If you want a place you can feel like part of a team and have a quiet relaxed workplace, not so great of a place to go, but if you are looking for a place where you can be ambitious, be busy, think outside the box and have a strong mind and personality, it is the place for you.

When I see the word safety come up many times in their job postings I just laugh. This company has no regard for safety or environment. The yard and shop are full of safety violations and there are puddles of oil all over the site being tracked out daily by the trucks. They have no room on site to operate safely, putting people directly in the line of fire. It’s only a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt or killed. There is no respect from management, in fact they are downright cruel and disrespectful. They constant yell and scream at you for problems that they themselves have created and ignored.  They treat people like dirt and the dismal culture is apparent on all staff. STAY AWAY

start work at 7am, to 5pm every day. All work was done outside in a steel yard, we would wait for the trucks to arrive and unload their materials and we would sort through thousands of pounds of metals picking out and sorting per metal content. My co-workers were great to work with and helped me out a lot with learning the process. The hardest part of the job was the daytime temperatures this summer in dirt field in the sun all day working, with little or no shade for relief. The most enjoyable part was the money I made this summer for all the hard work and my co-workers who were a fun bunch of guys each day.

After more than a year of working for this company, I know all departments pretty well, and if you aren't lazy, then you will do well here. There are amazing people that work at all levels of the company and at all 15 locations. The company is acquiring new locations every year, so it is an exciting time to join as it rapidly grows. Due to the growth, there is a lot of hiring and internal promotion. If you are looking for growth, this is a good company to join. Benefits are good - health, dental, vision, life insurance, employee assistance program, bonus' and RRSP matching. 

worked at the steel yard. work from 7-5 and Saturdays 7-12 noon. they do lunches for staff, coffee and donuts every Saturday helps. its hard work but managers don't ask you to do anything they wouldn't do themselves. safety is top priority. always preaching wearing safety gear. communication improved since I was there.  culture is good. everyone gets along and works together. bad staff are pushed out. there is some physical work but that is the job as its a labour position. working in rain isn't the best but they will give you rain suits. I like pizza Fridays.

The thing to remember is the management doesn’t want you to break your back. Be  smart, efficient, on time, and present. Ask questions if you don’t understand. Everyone there from the front office to the owners want you to succeed, your success is their success and vice versa. There is lots to learn and if you are invested there is a lot of room to grow. I enjoyed my time there. The culture is trying to change and like any change there is resistance, maybe more so here than anywhere I have ever been. But both the management team and the team on the shop floor are, for the most part, good honest people.
