Working as a broker at Johnston Meier Insurance Agencies Group provided valuable learning opportunities due to exposure to various insurance cases across auto, home, and business lines. However, the work environment was far from ideal. Trust among colleagues was lacking, and management failed to foster a friendly atmosphere. The branch manager's leadership contributed significantly to this toxic environment.
Unfortunately, support was scarce when needed, and navigating the office dynamics proved challenging. While some colleagues were respectful, there were instances where newer employees struggled to cope with the negative behavior of certain individuals. These individuals seemed intent on causing problems and alienating those who opposed their behavior.
Ultimately, I decided to leave the company after only a few months, following in the footsteps of others who departed shortly after joining. The HR manager lacked proficiency and exhibited rudeness, although other members of the HR team were helpful and kind.
In summary, I would caution against joining this company based on my personal experience. It was undoubtedly the most challenging period of my career thus far.


I love working at this company and have so much respect for how the owners run things.  It truly feels like a family for those who are open to it and enjoy collaborating with others.  Management has been working hard to create a positive, supportive culture and I really appreciate their efforts.

Like any workplace, there are challenges.  Sometimes issues arise when team members struggle with interpersonal differences, effective communication or problem-solving skills.  Communication really is key, and for those of us who embrace it and do our best to work well as a team, this is an incredibly rewarding place to be.

There are also real opportunities for growth and advancement for anyone who is proactive, eager to learn and willing to take initiative.

Overall, this is a fantastic workplace for people who enjoy teamwork, value a supportive environment and are ready to contribute to a positive, family-like culture.

Arrive early in order to begin the day prior to anyone else arriving.  a happy good morning to all who arrive helps to start the day off on a happy note.    Everyday I learn something new, and it greatly helps me to assist everyone I work with in one way or another.   Keeping everyone as calm as you can when under a lot of pressure can be difficult.  I hate seeing co-workers upset and frazzled.
Being able to share happy moments with everyone and hearing about everyones high moments  and support them in their low moments always makes this job worthwhile.  
  

Unreasonable expectations with very little recognition.  Branch manager did not follow through with contract and/ or verbal promises. Head office does very little in maintaining the branch I was part of.  I devoted everything to the growth of my department with great success only to be let go with no explanation.  I will also add the department I grew with my experience and contacts is still flourishing with 5x the original staff compared to the day I started.

Insurance is a rewarding career and JMI offers opportunity for advancement. However, my experience is the company lacks training and support for their office managers. Without consistent and confident management the office environment can very stressful. And with a few bad eggs (employees who are left unchecked), work life can be quite miserable. If you can find an office with strong management I say go for it! 

Having now been with the company almost 30 years it must be a great place to work!  Throughout the years i've grown not only as a person but also have been able to achieve better time management, learning to balance what we can control and what we cannot - the hardest part of any day is keeping up with daily changes - The challenges to keep on top of the ever changing industry.  The most enjoyable part of the job is being with our 'second family' and building strong relationships not only with our team but with our clients.

As an autoplan sales representative the majority of the time an employee will spend here is with customers. Other duties include mail, renewal phone calls, a variety of small assistance tasks for other members of staff. The difficult part of the job is continually juggling multiple tasks while assisting customers, many different important binding details are often up in the air. It can feel like spinning plates at times. The enjoyable part of the job is generally speaking the staff members.

Prior to me leaving the company (five years or so)  seemed to be transitioning from "corporate lite" to a more "intense" and competitive company and utilizing the media more and becoming more professional with some staff and upper management hired.  At the time they had a good mix of older management who grew up with the company and the newer professionals who were behind the new company policies etc.
