My experience with KK was overall not a great experience. The only thing that was good about the experience where the kids that I got to see. they barely give any time off for example you get two sick days throughout of five month span and with those sick days, you have to get a doctors note before even informing them that you are not well and you also need the doctors note and to inform them of the situation before 10 AM which is almost impossible, considering most doctors offices open around 9 AM, and even when you do, get a doctors note and tell them The situation they still make you feel like you were doing something wrong, even though you were constantly in cold water with kids who are constantly sick considering they are in school and it’s a winter time since we live in Calgary. If you reach out to customer support or the management team able to take them at least five hours to get back to you the only time that they will reach out and respond quickly is when they feel as though you were doing something wrong without even asking you what has happened. I had an experience where a child bit and slapped me in the face and when I tried to talk to the parents about it, they got frustrated with me. When I reached out to the support team they told me it was my fault, even though the reason why the child reacted like that was because they did not want to be in swimming lessons that day and I was trying to get them to do swimming, most of the pools that you will be sent to will be either freezing cold or disgusting where you can see debris floating around in the water and the water has become foggy. If you try to inform the management about the situation, they will tell you that other instructors have already been in that pool today and there’s no problem getting in it. Multiple of my children have left swimming lessons with blue lips because of how cold the pool is they are only in there for 30 minutes at a time. Children should not be leaving freezing shivering with blue lips, pale anything of the sort. The pay isn’t terrible, but considering how much each parent pays for the lessons you would think that we would get more pay than we do. They also expect you to update your Skill trees every single day, but do not pay you during the time that you do this same thing with attendance and things like that which is irritating because they have a very slow working app so you end up spending at least three hours of your time every single night, filling out their skill trees, and updating all of those kind of things without pay. I had my toys stolen from another instructor at the pool that I was working at and when I informed them of it they told me that I should’ve kept better track of my toys and that they could do nothing to punish the other instructor but instead punished me and made me go out and spend my own money on new toys even though at the beginning of employment they take $50 from you for the toys that they give you. Overall management is not helpful whatsoever. They are not understanding and they do not do anything to you upkeep the well-being of their employees or their students in the water.

A typical day working with K&K involves arriving to the hotel location at least 15 minutes early to check that the venue pool is up to K&K standards. Shifts are usually from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on weekdays but varies on the weekends. We greet the clients as they arrive and then teach their child using lesson plans assigned each week. You usually teach 8 swimmers back-to-back lessons. After each lesson, you give a brief overview to the parents on what you worked on, what needs to be improved and what you will do next week. Once your shift is done, you need to wait for the clients to leave first before you can leave. This job is very fun as the children are very excited to see you and do their lesson. But it can also be draining when kids do not progress and parents get upset about this. The parents are very nice and very understanding about their children's progress, but some do believe that their child should be in a different level when the child is not ready yet.

I have had a positive experience with this job.  The parents are very nice and the kids are very excited to swim. The coworkers are okay. Some will stay away from you and not talk at all while others will talk your ear off. 

I really like how we can pick what days of the week and times that work for us, as well as the location of the hotel we want to work at. I would recommend this job for anyone who likes teaching/working with children and for students who want a part time job in the evening/weekends that will not interfere with their schooling during the day.

I would recommend that they improve their communication. Sometimes it is hard to get a hold of them when something happens. I would recommend allowing 5 minutes at the 2 hour mark of lessons for us to take a quick break. I would also recommend giving us more sick days as we work in pools all season long, so we will get sick. It also does not make sense that we need to give a sick note before we can ask for a sick day and we have to let them know by 10:00 am that day. Thats not enough time to give notice plus what if we feel sick after 10:00 am. They make it seem like its a bad thing that we need a day off cause we are sick.



K&K has a great curriculum and I love the focus on building trust with swimmers. K&K’s style of lessons allows you to really connect and bond with swimmers and their families in a meaningful way. However, experiences with management are very hit or miss. There are times they’ll be incredibly supportive and understanding, but other times they’ll reprimand you for things that aren’t really within your control. Especially recently they have had difficulties with supporting instructors and treating them well, which has caused a high turnover rate (which creates even more work for remaining instructors). They’ve also been having issues with communication, both with instructors and clients. There have been many instances of instructors needing to wait weeks to hear back from management about issues, particularly if they involve an instructor’s pay. If you work for K&K, be prepared to potentially have to fight to be paid what was agreed upon or have mistakes with pay fixed. Depending on which manager is working that day, your health and safety as an instructor can be completely disregarded, and certain members from the management team may even encourage you to work in conditions that are unsafe (even staff with no experience with pools have tried to dictate what is safe and what isn’t, and if you disagree you are treated like you’re dramatic). Complaints about pool conditions aren’t often addressed. It’s incredibly fulfilling for people who are passionate about working with kids and teaching swimming, but dealing with management can be beyond frustrating. There are a lot of expectations placed on instructors, so if you’re not passionate about teaching people to swim this probably isn’t the job for you. The kids and their families are the biggest draw of this job. 

Training as an instructor at K&K has been a truly rewarding experience. The emphasis on communication and connectedness resonates deeply with me, and it's evident in the way we interact with our students. The constructive and supportive environment we cultivate not only benefits the learners but also creates a positive atmosphere for us as instructors.

Our 4-hour shifts dedicated to helping others learn to swim might seem repetitive, but I find immense satisfaction in witnessing the progress and growth of our students. The opportunity to learn various teaching strategies and receive support from different departments, including leadership, adds depth to our roles and enhances our effectiveness as educators.

One of the aspects I value most is the encouragement to seek advice from senior instructors. This open exchange of ideas not only contributes to our own development but also translates to a more enriched learning experience for our students.

The hustling workplace culture motivates me to give my best every day. It's incredibly fulfilling to witness the advancement of our students and know that I've played a part in their journey towards becoming confident swimmers. Working as an instructor at K&K allows me to make a meaningful impact while continuously learning and growing within a dynamic and supportive community.

My usual routine for my employment at K&K would start of in the mornings, as I check my schedule or if not working that day, check for any substitute classes I could take. Besides that, I would either drive or take transit (if more convenient) to whichever hotel I am currently working in and begin my one on one classes. 

Overall, my experience with K&K has been a relatively positive one, as they are very eager to accommodate and support instructor needs when the time comes! They’re considerate of events or asking for days off! Although, one drawback is that, when I first started, the job was quite the challenge, as I felt I lacked the confidence and experience to solidify my spot as a swim instructor, but with their advice—being that I fake it until I make it!—my confidence eventually grew throughout my months, and now I can see a wide difference in skills compared to when I first began with this company.

Although in most cases, I’m either alone at the pool with just my only other student, when there are a multiple number of instructors present, the community itself is proudly welcoming! They’re quick to assist if any question prop up, especially for newcomers, and overtime, relationships are made with ease!

In general, if looking for a part-time job with flexible hours! I would one hundred-percent recommended working with K&K as long as you have ample experience in swimming!

Genuinely found that the only thing that encouraged me to go into work every shift was the kids. I must admit that the children I had were wonderful and I developed great relationships both with them and their families. However the fact that the parents paying for the lessons made me feel more welcome than the company I worked for speaks volumes. 

The company has weird policies regarding time off. The sick day policy is wild. They expect you to have a doctors note before you even call in sick, and even then you only get 2 sick days a session. You'd think working in the water constantly (not to mention usually in frigid pools or with sick kids) they'd be more lenient regarding sick time. I know doctors notes are expected in the work-force, but the way this company requires them is not very flexible. It feels as though an instructor constantly has to put work over their health. Also being told that "If [I] get hit by a car, [I'm] still missing my shift," was not very cool?????

Instructors are not treated very fairly. Re-locations obviously do happen from time to time but them happening constantly is when it becomes an issue, especially when you're being relocated to a pool that is just as cold as the first one. 

Either way, not a great experience at this company. Things always felt tense between other instructors as well as with management. Only benefit was the pay. 

Working as a swim instructor at K&K has been a truly rewarding experience. The role allows me to share my passion for swimming with students of all ages, and it’s incredibly fulfilling to see their progress and confidence grow in the water. The flexible scheduling is a major highlight, allowing me to balance work with my personal life seamlessly. The pay is competitive for the industry, and I feel fairly compensated for my efforts.
What I appreciate most is the supportive environment. The team at K&K provides ample resources, and the lesson plans are straightforward, well-structured, and easy to follow, making it simple to deliver engaging and effective lessons. The management is approachable and always open to feedback, fostering a collaborative atmosphere that makes coming to work enjoyable.
What sets K&K apart is their genuine commitment to both staff and students. They prioritize creating a positive, inclusive environment where everyone feels valued. The focus on clear communication and professional development has helped me grow as an instructor. I would highly recommend K&K to anyone passionate about teaching and looking for a workplace that values flexibility, support, and meaningful impact. It’s a fantastic place to build skills and make a difference in the community.

Teaching at K&K was one of the most rewarding and fulfilling experiences of my swim instructor journey. While I've taught group lessons for over four years, transitioning to one-on-one sessions at K&K Swim School was a game-changer for me.

The opportunity to offer individualized attention and customize each session to the unique needs and progress of my students enabled deeper connections, more noticeable improvements, and an enhanced sense of achievement – for both the students and myself. The joy of witnessing firsthand the progress and breakthroughs of each student is something I'll always cherish.

A standout aspect of working at K&K was the exceptional work-life balance. The flexibility to select my teaching hours aligned perfectly with my university schedule, enabling me to juggle both my academic and professional responsibilities with ease. This balance was crucial in allowing me to pursue my degree without added stress, all while continuing to make a significant impact through my teaching.

For anyone passionate about making a real difference in swim instruction, I wholeheartedly recommend the private swim instructor role at K&K Swim School.

I became invested in this position and enjoyed the work, but unfortunately felt devalued by management. My manager was very frustrated with me and even mean to me when I had to take time of work due to sickness. I was always following the sick leave protocols, but she was still mad at me that my students would not get a consistent teacher. She didn't ever seem to care that I was unwell or that I was trying my best to organize around my absence despite my struggle with my health. 

I was fired from the company for taking a week off, even though I'm sure that parents wouldn't want someone with a cold teaching their child. I understand that the company wants to provide a high standard of service, but it is not out of the ordinary for an employee to get sick for more than one day. 

They should really have a stronger system in place for organizing staff to cover others on sick leave so that the person on leave doesn't face the brunt of  issue. 

It is ridiculous and sad the way that my situation was handled. I feel that they lost a really strong asset to their company. The whole situation is very unfortunate. 

The team at K&K Swim School is truly passionate about teaching swimming to children and adults alike. From day one, I felt welcomed and supported by my colleagues and management.

The culture at K&K Swim School is fantastic. Everyone is friendly, positive, and genuinely cares about each other. The team works together seamlessly to create a fun, safe, and engaging environment for all students. I was constantly impressed by the creativity and dedication of my coworkers.

As an employee, I was given ample opportunities for growth and development. The training and resources provided by K&K Swim School were top-notch and really helped me improve my teaching skills. The feedback and support from my supervisors were invaluable and helped me become a better teacher.

Overall, I would highly recommend K&K Swim School to anyone looking for a positive, supportive work environment with opportunities for growth and development. This is truly a 5-star organization that is making a positive impact on the lives of students and employees alike.
