KLS EARTHWORKS

To start, i’ve been with KLS over 15 years. The negative reviews need not scare you off to gain employment. 
Most of those who have left disgruntled have no clue what it takes to pound the pavement to obtain work to employ upwards to 200 employees, then the effort and time spent to dispatch and place skill and talent into the right jobs. 
The effort alone to get to know each employees strengths in order to do that especially when many havent got the chops to stick the good out through the tougher times, makes it difficult all around, even with ones like myself, never knowing who’s next or how endowed or lacking in skills ones are!
Kls pays close or at the going rates in construction, one being hired ought to expect to start a bit lower if skills need honing and then be graduated up to pay as they develop. 
Many of the negative reviews come from ones expecting a top rate just for showing up! Many of them lacked skils to complete their work thus making it needed to have higher skilled, myself included put in to redo, cleanup or both in their aftermaths! 
I’ve as stated been with KLS over 15 years and i go with the good and tough times like anywhere one could work. I plan on continuing with KLS. 
KLS management tries to maintain a family atmosphere, if you give to the company, then you see that as I have!
KLS has a good safety program in place and works hard to improve its effectiveness.
All in all, if you bring a good effort everyday, KLS will end up a decent employer toward you.

What a horrible, horrible company to work for. Spare yourself and work anywhere else but. They treat their staff like complete garbage. They'll over work you one day, then no hours then fire you. They will fault find, no matter how careful you are with all that you do. They will promise to train and never follow through and when you seek help elsewhere you'll still get in trouble. Management will never talk to you like a human being, they'll only yell at you when they look for something anything you did wrong, it doesn't matter to this company you did 100 things right it only matters to this company you did 1 thing wrong. They under pay, short you hours on every project, every employee, every day so you seriously have to keep track of your hours or you'll be working for this company for free. Everybody hates working here and they're all backstabbers. All of the equipment isn't properly maintained and breaking down constantly. You'll be working without AC on the hottest summer day and shivering without heat in the dead of winter. If you get hurt at work they don't care about that either - just keep working! If you go to management with questions or help they will avoid you, won't answer their phone, won't call you back and then have a tantrum when you do something wrong no matter how careful you are. There's  never any praise, profit sharing, Christmas Party - nothing. You're nothing more than an abused slave for this company.

As construction companies go, i believe Kls Earthworks to be among the best.
In my 18+ years, being that i put a solid effort forward at all times to do my part in Kls’ success, they in turn are very supportive to my needs in health and job modification when needed.
The management is very knowledgeable, eager to work with employees that come to work, ‘FOR’ Kls, not just a paycheque. Job security and culture are a employer/employee shared effort. Thats why i gave a good rating.
There are way too many of those who feel entitled to big pay for no effort these days.
If you are of that type, Kls Earthworks, or for that matter, no company may be a suitable choice.
An employee must invest and maintain a work ethic that helps make the company the money to be able to pay, same employee. Symbiotic.
I recommend Kls Earthworks to Anyone who wants to learn very many aspects and skills involved in equipment operating and earthworks.

If you have experience be prepared to be treated like a rookie. If you’re green be prepared to be promoted to supervisor or lead hand. The office has no clue what’s going on in the field and the field has no idea what the office is doing. Equipments not bad but management is brutal. This place goes through more employees in a season than most do in years. You can’t get ahead unless you’re a “yes man”. Long term employees don’t exist because they treat employees like property. You’ll get 25 year olds with 20 years experience earning top wage while guys with experience are underpaid and they wonder why there’s no employee retention. Personal life? Not here, you have to be available 24/7 and if you’re not they will punish you for not being available. Need days off? Nope because they need you that weekend because they can’t retain employees and are horribly organized. Oh and don’t worry you’ll get your 3 month review next year, maybe.

I enjoyed my time at KLS, and would probably go back. For the most part, I found it to be a decent, professional workplace.

The shop mechanics would always make time to do a quick repair or give you a hand if they could. Other bigger maintenance problems, for the most part, were addressed in a timely manner. 

Most senior management were approachable and seemed down to earth. They recognized problems and collaborated with frontline supervisors to improve morale and make things run a bit smoother. 

No matter what your career is, there’s always going to be people in the workplace you may clash a bit with, and for me, KLS was no different in that regard. But with that said, I found the vast majority of co-workers to be friendly, helpful, and decent to work with. I also got along with the vast majority of site supervisors, and was consistently treated with respect from all but one of them. My direct supervisor was a genuinely nice guy who treated me well. I think you could do a lot worse than KLS in my experience. 




You'll be told your hired after you do a try out with them for free, they'll lie about the wage you get then once your time for your "three month review" you'll be told there's no such thing, management is disorganized, don't utilize they're guys properly, they'll over work you till you drop, never have the right tools or equipment when you need it, getting time off is hard until you start to complain or make a mistake. At that point you'll just sit at home for a week. That's how they deal with issues. If your a liability to them, they don't like the type of person you are or try to speak up for yourself they'll sit you at home till you quit. I was with them for a few years and couldnt watch it happen anymore so I left. No bonuses just short checks, at least the benefits are good.

Most technologically advanced company! All the safety paperwork is electronic. friendly coworkers, supervisors & management team! The times have changed and so has KLS they have kept up with the new age GPS equipment, electronic haul cards and safety paperwork and dispatch app that shows you where your working and who your working for. Safety is a big thing at KLS they will provide any training you need to make sure your ready for the task at hand! Every job is different one day you could be in the country reclaiming an old oil and gas site, another downtown ripping up asphalt on a major roadway. there is lost of room to for advancement if you put your best foot forward. depending on the work load there is potential for working through the winter if the weather is decent.

at first was great then when new owner took over and kids started running the company , then not so great . had a hard time with all the yelling at drivers. management and supervisors lick to yell a lot at employees and i really did not care for the anger

If you are single or the kids are grown up and not worried about the long hours. This is the place for you. Pay was ok, but never knew what you where doing or if you where working until late are night. If it rains or snow during the week, be ready to work the whole weekend that is coming up. Employees don't come first in the eyes of management only themselves. They rotate each day to different styles of jobs, that you don't get to finish a project you start or you end up with someone else stuff that went wrong.

Great pay, always paid on time, didn't have a choice but to work evening shifts which were okay for the most part as there was no supervision. Alot of over time was required which paid well. Expect to get yelled at first thing when you walk in as they are leaving and need to tell you what you did wrong before they go home. The facility is great, clean, all the tools required are provided, nice machines and trucks. Just expect to work a ton and don't expect job advancements unless your in the field(high turnover as a operator)
Alot of favoritism in the shop but thats because they all have worked together along time.
