KLUANE DRILLING LTD

Having worked for kluane for over a decade the first thing I've noticed is they are continuously improving all aspects of the job. The drills themselves are always being upgraded to compete with the competition. They are excellent little drills that surprise most people on their speed and capability. Like the drilling industry itself, kluane is always improving there safety, longer training  periods, more safety devices. The company management always stresses safety first. 

Like any job there will be some people you work for that do not represent the true values that the company has. When seasons are busy there are lots of new drillers, who may be used to the old school ways of basically just being an a-hole. Millennials beware. Don't take being yelled at personally. 

The most important thing I can say is, if you truly work hard , day in and day out, people within kluane take notice and you will move up the ladder. Just remember this isn't some easy job, it's highly demanding, mistakes can result in serious injury or even death. And we take this job very seriously.

My typical day at work took about 12 hrs/day. It could be day shift or night shift. Both shifts started at 7 am or pm. I worked two seasons as a helper and the last season I was a driller.
I learned rig moving, got better at drilling, recovering and repairing. I also got a lot of additional knowledge of drilling equipment.
I had absolutely no problems or arguments with management when I worked as a helper or as a driller.
There were no problems with my co-workers either. The best relationships I had with foreman, geologists and few drillers too.
The hardest part of the job was drilling at the areas with the complex geological cross breed.
The most enjoyable part of the job was drilling itself.

Your day starts at 6 you wake up shower, eat, call loved ones and hit the drill. You drill for mineral samples 12 hours a day. You wear p.p.e and hearing protection to stop the constant noise. Huge manual labour and intense outdoor conditions. Danger is everywhere but if you can handle to work and your body makes a turn around physically you can get used to it. You maintain and fix 3 cylinder engines, hydraulic panels, steel rods and water pumps, so when you master them you understand a lot about mechanics. It can be lonely and painful but the chosen few make it their living and I've met and worked with some of the hardest working, craziest and interesting people I've ever met.

Working 12 hours a day,every day for 6 weeks in the camp.
Learn to be productive ,work very fast and safe.
Had very nice management,
The hardest part is to move the Drill with Helicopter .
The most enjoyable part of it: its always in good shape,good money,working outdoors.

Great to work for, the owners and top management are in the office every day. That’s hard to come by when they don’t really need to be. It’s a rough business. Other companies may pay more money but if your good and work hard, you will appreciate the Kluane culture 

A typical day on the drill consist of organizing the drill to what the driller wants, and making sure the drill is constantly running. Learned to problem solve fast and make quick discussions to keep everything running without slowing down. There was nothing hard about this job at all.

The people are great, I was an expiditer for Kluane, delivering people and supplies to the mining camps, a few long days, but exciting. Meeting a wide range of different folks, from other countries as well as my own, just a great crew to work for, down to earth and fun.

They don't pay enough in wages and the housing in whitehorse is very poor living and they don't offer a vehicle to get around while you are employed with them. The management is very poor they are all over the place you never know where you are going or for how long 

For the time I’ve worked at this company there’s no support, and the pay is awful. there’s no support from the shop whatsoever. You’re left in the bush to fend for yourself.

Make money, meet people, small enough to be personally recognized, large enough to pay you very well. I'd definitely recommend working here for anyone looking for a rewarding experience, and financial gain!
