This review is for the New Westminster paper plant:
Average seniority at this place around 2010 was about 20-25 years, so before you moved up the only choice was to wait, especially due to its unionized environment.
Salary and benefits were up around the roof, great for a place that only required high school, the jobs were dead end but easy and they allowed reading books for some jobs which makes it a less than a mind numbing job.

Culture and values were pretty bad, tough to be under 30 at this job like I was, however the people were respectful. Very old school minded place from management all the way down the ladder.

Job security... well I got canned due to bad management practices, I along with another 50-60... so, perhaps the same as everywhere else, if you made it past 15 years you will be fine. However if the trade men/women liked you and you passed their aptitudes tests you could get an apprenticeship. If you had half a brain and/or kissed enough meat plus the right attitude they would move you to management, or at least management helper after around 10+ years. At least one manager however had neither, just the willingness to do the dirty jobs.

Management was all right, no complaints. They had their moody days when they wouldn't allow you to read a book in a mind numbing job and would prefer that you stare at the wall, or the machine you were looking after (even though they all had alarms to indicate something was wrong).

Work life balance, very bad as its a 24/7 manufacturing plant, but they do pay you enough to say that it was worth it.

If you want a life time job with limited but possible advancement opportunities this job is ideal. Again, the pay is glorious at this place for a person with no skills but willing to work.

The job on converting lines is very complex. There are about 30 computer programs you need to use. The machines are brand new and already everything is breaking down. The workload is IMMENSE for the employees, and they will be looking to cut down on employees still. They always try to get more from you. They have these quarterly meetings where it was supposed to be an open discussion between employees and employer but so far the first meeting was just that and the other ones were pretty much a speech from the employer because the first one had too many complaints from employees for various aspects of their jobs. We asked for better benefits but so far the only thing they gave us was more holidays paid double time, but they've been shutting down production on all of them. They gave us a very good pay raise however. 

The only good things you will get from Kruger Sherbrooke is a good paycheck (starts at 29$ an hour for lift truck operators), possibility to grow in the company (lots of employee turnovers) and if you're lucky you'll avoid a burnout. 


At Kruger Products a typical work day was enjoyable, walking into a place with friendly faces, great atmosphere, and knew it wasn’t going to be like any other day. It was busy and knew I would have to multi-task between spreadsheets and assisting sales managers with everyday administrative tasks. The managers were always pleasant and had an open door policy. The hardest part of the job was making sure that all was done before the end of the day but we managed by always being organized. I always found a way to work with others in the office by compromising and being a team player as they were as well. We always helped each other out to get the job done in the end and work closely together. This to me makes every day enjoyable if everyone can act as a team player.

I started working at the Westminster plant in 1973 and retired from there in 2016.  I loved my job and really liked the people I worked with.  In my job as I could go at my own pace and work as hard and as fast as I wanted. The fact that as a 1st aid attendant I helped saved lives was a great feeling!  The benefits were great, I loved the pizza days and Chinese dinners, the many gifts that I got, (loved the clothes), and the contests that we could enter to win great stuff!  It was like a family there and when I retired I missed it all very much. Working there enabled me to buy my farm and have the life I wanted.

The company is quite large but the head office does not have a lot of employees. For a company that does over $1B in sales, it still operates as a mom-and-pop shop for a lot things. Lack of systems in place means that even senior professionals are doing a lot of operational work. Company is VERY top heavy, with layers and layers above even Corporate Directors. Middle management gets little exposure to overall strategic work and is sometimes merely "informed" that changes are being made to their product line.

They offer decent pay for the area, depending on the one you work on. Each line has different wages. Management is the biggest issue at this plant. Very unorganized, no t involved enough, puts all the weight on a it’s employees, even if it’s managements fault. They aren’t clear on things, like holidays, everyone has different standards. if your liked enough you can get away with things. They preach safety, but the place isn’t as safe as they preach. Really no incentive to go above and beyond. Forget OT on shifts. You have to work 90 hours before any over time.

My supervisor in maintenance giving hard time and sometimes had no respect for you. For example for 3 to 4 month at the beginning of my job at Kruger, almost 2 or 3 times a week he would raise his voice and creating an uncomfortable working environment for not important issues which would have been easily solved just by talking and being a little patient. 
However in production environment things were much better. The production supervisor s were all very respectful and friendly and the superintendent of the plant was very easy going individual and fun guy to work with. 


Have worked here for 8 years. Company is spending a lot of money at the Trenton plant which makes advancement easy. Management spend a lot of time on the production floor speaking with employees on how they can improve and make their jobs easier. We have a open door policy. If you have questions concerns or ways to improve you are always welcome to go up for a chat. Plant and Production manager are very easy and fun to communicate with. And truly care about our employees. We like employees to get involved with commitees such as health and safety or social committee's.

Micromanagement and toxic blame culture terminating over same job for years and many workers left this place

Poor communication. Management doesn't convey info among them.

Fast paced. Not enough proper training.

Short briefing at start of shift. Then pretty much ignored. Usually numerous issues with materials. This detracts from the expectations of your job.
