Cat and mouse...a game, right?  You're the cat...chasing the mouse and this is supposed to be fun?  We're rewarded for arrests and ruining people's days?

Let's get something perfectly CLEAR...you are working for "THE MAN!!.  You are working for billionaire corporations.  They don't care about people; they care about money.

I started to feel really down about my role as punishing the little person while saving dollars for the millionaires.

The average shoplifter is a human being with emotional/psychological problems.  I'm sorry, but we're not trained psychologists.  When humans start to cry, the natural instinct is to comfort and console.  We're trained to ignore the humanity and focus on the punishment.  This will kill your soul after a while.

I understand that huge criminal/professional theft/shoplifting schemes should be prevented.  This kind of activity is rare and likely the people are armed so we stay away.  Basically, we go after normal people and if you think it's satisfying to be rewarded for punishing normal people, go for it.

Remember, you're only helping the BIG CORPORATION, not the average human.  I left to actually help people.

I knew people who shoplifted and they were kind people struggling with addiction.  Addicts should be helped, not arrested and punished.  Stores are built like casinos....the lighting and placement of products encourage emotional reactions and distress.  Shoplifting is growing because of the growing disconnect with each other.  

If you think you're "better" than the shoplifter, then you'll get an ego boost with each arrest.  

If you're human, you'll understand that you are no better than anyone and that these people need help.

If you want to get into law enforcement, remember that police officers are supposed to HELP, not punish.  

I first joined the company in June 2018, my interview was with a local supervisor in the Windsor area. The supervisor was incredibly knowledgeable about many aspects of loss prevention. The supervisor and the regional loss prevention manager personally conducted all necessary training to prepare me for all types of situations that will occur during my duties. The role of a Loss Prevention Investigator is to detect and apprehend shoplifters for a variety of crimes such as theft, fraud and mischief. Every apprehension dictates a different approach to the situation. What I really liked about my supervisor and manager was that they are very approachable, whenever I am uncertain of how to tackle a situation I would always call my manager and they can walk me through it, you may conduct your duties alone but you will never be without backup your coworkers and managers are only a phone call away to assist you. There really is no first security related job you can get to prepare you for a field such as law enforcement, this job literally requires you to execute arrests! And deliver them to a police officer for punishment. You also learn many laws that will help you with future law enforcement careers. When it comes down to the money I really can’t complain the starting wage is $18.00 a hour and it only gets better, as long as you produce a good amount of arrests and are a honest employee such as reporting mistakes, it’s a great job.

I had the pleasure of working for this company for an unfortunately short time. The Regional Loss Prevention Manager from London was very encouraging, professional, knowledgeable, and an excellent supervisor. The work consisted of plain clothes security detail detecting and apprehending shoplifters for various retail locations in the Windsor and Chatham-Kent areas. I only left due to an unrelated industry employer offering me a substantial wage increase for an unrelated job. The only downside is dealing with a culture that feels entitled to steal whatever they want, most of which is related to serious substance addiction issues and a criminal mindset. Keep in mind that some of these people have the mindset that they have nothing to lose and can become combative. You are not expected to fight with people and the company strongly encourages you to release the person in the event that happens. This is the company to work for if a person is interested in this type of security work. You will be conducting surveillance and arresting shoplifters and turning them over to the police. You are expected to work with little supervision, be attentive, punctual, confident and professional. Effective report writing skills are a must. The store employees do watch you and some retail locations have a hands off policy!!!

I worked for the company for 1 full year, as a Loss Prevention Investigator for the first 9 months and as a District Loss Prevention Manager for 3 months before eventually moving on to a career as a Probation & Parole Officer. 

As a Loss Prevention Investigator I developed incredibly valuable skills, such as working one on one with offenders, working closely with the police, writing detailed reports, as well as familiarity with the Criminal Justice System. The job takes practice and training and a whole lot of patience, but once you're comfortable it becomes fun and provides you with excellent work experience that also looks great on a resume.

As a District Loss Prevention Manager, I developed skills managing employees, organizing schedules, and keeping a good rapport with clients/stores. 

Overall the job was an incredible experience that allowed me to grow in the criminal justice field and truly helped prepare me for work as a Probation & Parole Officer, and I'm positive it would do the same for advancement in policing or corrections as well.

Worked for Loss Prevention Services for 2 years. Management was very accommodating for personal life matters while still achieving full time hours. This was my first security job and by far the best first security job to have, I had the chance to utilize skills from college each day and make apprehensions as a civilian. Much better than sitting in one spot for several hours. Pay was fair but as my experience and skill developed the pay matched my ability, making it more rewarding. Always seem to have a good group of investigators working making it a fun environment to learn and grow in. If you're looking for excellent experience in law enforcement to further your goals and achievements I highly recommend working as a loss prevention officer for Loss Prevention Services as it helped develop my knowledge in the career path of my choosing. It is a very hands on skill developing job and each day will prevent new challenges.

People don’t put their eggs all in one basket!! 

I learned very quickly to adapt to the various work environments at hand, always watch your surroundings, check through all the correct procedural steps and maintain total professionalism. Management is great and Informative. And also Supervisor, (M.D) was great to gain knowledge, and takes great integrity in their work, and excels in confidence of the job position. 

Hardest part of job is maintain that total continuity of specific items within suspicious persons as other regular persons block your views and continuity watch spots and setup peak holes. But this is just something to work around and use other skills to make the task work. 

Best and Most enjoyable part of the job is getting to gain great confidence and detailed experience and exposure to the real world of theft, mischief, fraud and corruption. Getting to do this job under the radar blending in with the general public eye. 

While I've experienced some challenges, I would say it is good work experience and can be rewarding at times. A typical day at work consists of reporting in for a shift to an employee at the site that a guard is assigned at, clocking in using the company's app, then going about any duties assigned for that site. Also, guards let employees know when they're clocking out or going on break, to let employees in the know of their status. I've had a good experience with management: they are accommodating to my schedule and are professional and respectful. From my experience, I would say workplace culture is ok: the guards look out for each other and management contacts the guards regarding any changes in shifts. I would say the hardest part of the job is having to confront people, but I try to stay as respectful and tactful as possible. In my opinion, the most enjoyable part of the job is helping customers out and making a positive difference in the community.

The entire job depends on which sites you're scheduled to work. LPS as a security company is a very reasonable one and they don't pull some of the sketchy stuff that others do. My only issue is the clients... depending on where you work it can either ruin your day or make it. The majority of the clients are supportive of your role and of you, they want you to get arrests... but there is a small faction of clients who are just miserable and don't want to be at work and they end up making your life miserable as well. 

This is a good job if you're just looking to build some experience for a year or two then move on not to make it a career. Loving/hating the job will depend on your career goals honestly. I am just here for the experience and surely appreciate everything LPS has to offer

Training was great with them, if you are police foundations/ law and security graduate you will understand... you get to arrest people and deal with all sorts of population demographics. Everybody is nice and easy going especially coworkers. they will all help you get arrests. your pay will be good at start but it gets better when your performance improves

ALOT OF RULES! WAAAAYYY too many rules that you have to learn, but in general it is fun if you are getting arrests. It is super boring if you just want to cash your paycheck. 

This isn't the right place for you, if you are just hear to do your hours and go home.. you have to put in actual effort and it is always noticed by management. 

Love the bi-weekly prizes as I got a champagne bottle as a winning prize for most arrests, and it is always different people winning it.
