I was fired without cause during COVID-19 as a PSW at Lanark Lodge, Due to being a recent hire I was still in my probation phase of my employment and therefore was not given a reason for being let go, I was just told it was "performance issues" but management would not speak with me or give me an explanation. When I tried to reach out to receive positive criticism I was ignored and pushed away. I had been working at this home before COVID-19 had hit and there was never a problem or concern with my performance. Management called me and refused to meet with me and and discuss the issues at hand. Very poor communication and leadership on their part.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Paid student/consolidation positions, stat pay, benefits, OMERS pension and union. Large facility with comfortable staff break rooms, vending machines and free parking. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Always needing to be on my toes as it’s a long term care facility for the elderly who are vulnerable and at times medically fragile.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I’ve only experienced kindness and support from my preceptor and co-workers.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy but fair and fulfilling. Every day is different.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Staff turn into family, feeling welcome. Bosses know you by your name. Very approachable and always very happy

Short staff, slowly getting better

Family- you make amazing friendships. Very lay back and easy to talk to bosses

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Like any personal support works job

Lanark Lodge is a retirement home where i was responsible for delivering and feeding residents, taking them to and from events/ appointments and helping with their everyday needs. I learned the importance of patience when dealing with dementia patients and a lot about food safety/ dealing with food restrictions/requirements.

I like my job and co-workers.  Only downfall is you need to build up seniority to get full-time hours. Which can take some people years depending on which department you work in.  That is the only frustrating part of the job. 

On a day to day basis when you volunteer, you get to communicate with so many different people and helpers in the Lanark Lodge community building. They do good, they make the elderly feel like they're at home 24/7. And they always make guests feel welcomed!

This is a very fast pace and can be stressful.  If you are hardworking and healthy, you will be good. Takes about 10 to 15 years to achieve full time position. 

Like any long term care home in Ontario  fast pace, heavy work  sometimes stressful during outbreak holiday time and working short  
Enjoy seniors and working with them

Great Place to work at. Did this placement for my college. Worked with a variety of people, and learned a lot in regards to the elder population. I learned a lot about empathy

Busy workplace, always something to do, makes shifts go by quicker. Can easily make friends with co-workers. Rewarding and satisfactory jobs in this  setting.
