Latitude Air Ambulance

Despite being everything I like in a job:  exciting, challenging, fast-paced  - Latitude was a very difficult place to work.  It often fell over the line into chaotic, stressful, and unsafe.  

The training, procedures, and processes in the operations centre were poor at best.  Management, though knowledgeable in aviation, was not well trained in managing people and knew very little about labour laws.  Staff (in the operation, medical, and aviation departments) were used to the point of burnout; working illegally long hours without reasonable compensation.  The work we were doing was extremely high intensity and we worked very short staffed; the turnover rate was astronomical.  In an urgent healthcare setting such as Latitude, I would define these shortages as dangerous and critically unsafe.  

That said, most colleagues were highly professional, knowledgeable, and kind. They were highly dedicated to the important work they provided the world over.  On top of that, it's just a REALLY cool place to work.  

I left Latitude in 2019 on good terms.  I hope the critiques I made on exit were taken seriously, and that they've since hired more staff and improved their processes across the board to make it a better place to work; and a safer repatriation company for patients.

Latitude aims to hire people with the right attitude meaning caring, positive charged, team players, hard workers that are willing to go above and beyond their job description and the majority of the staff, from all departments, fits in this description and shares these values. In return Latitude offers an authentic action, suspense and trill through all the operations they run 24/7. It is a very interesting business but not all positions are covered 24/7 and you will find yourself too often and too long checking/answering emails and messages after hours /out of office.
There were ups and downs, pushing limits, running projects with many accomplishments. However, none of these would have been possible without the medical team I have been part of, worked with, learned so much from, had fun with and will miss so much. Respect the medical staff and show them you care for them and they will respect you and support you.

Since joining Latitude 1.5 years ago, I have been made to feel welcome by staff and management alike. I have been provided with on the job training and regular performance and wage reviews. I was also provided mandatory Health & Safety Training at time of hire. Management does set high expectations for performance, but the team is stronger because of it. I am never left wondering what is expected of me. I feel supported in my role and feel that I can talk openly with my direct manager about anything. I am proud to work for a company that truly makes a difference in the lives of their clients!

The Accounting Department works very hard, they are meticulous and accurate with everything they do. It is always a team environment when getting the job done. There is lots of opportunity for growth and advancement. 
The new manager is very professional and focusses on mentoring and a positive workplace environment.
We go out for monthly team building events. On your first day management buys you a welcome lunch for the department!  
They are focused on a positive environment and work life balance.
 This company is a breath of fresh air to someone who's worked in to many toxic workplaces previously.  

I've been employed by Latitude Air Ambulance for nine years and have held three different positions. There is never a dull moment in this business, which is great because I'm never bored. I've had the opportunity to learn so much about aviation, customs, the air ambulance business and much more. The company is growing quickly so there are still a few things to learn along the way which keeps things interesting. Safety and standards are important. My colleagues work very hard and are committed. 

Stay away   The toxic atmosphere of this company Is a direct result of very poor management.   Management doesn’t work with employees   No communication between departments   Wages are poor with little to no raises   No chance of advancement  or promotion.  Self thinking isn’t encouraged in the accounting department  Operations has little to no flexibility and minimal training

Fast paced work environment that is ever changing.  Many challenges but lots of support to go along with it. Work life balance is encouraged although some people struggle to maintain that.  This is typically a personal issue and not necessarily a company issue.  Latitude is a great environment and  I really enjoy coming to work every day!

Co-workers were great. Management not so much.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Work load is underpaid. Nepotism is huge there

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Stressful and demeaning. A very ‘down’ environment

Exciting, fast paced, hard rewarding work that means something in the world. Boundaries and limits are pushed every day. The world is your playground.

Working at Latitude provides a fun work-life balance due to the scheduling and the many company events. Management is very appreciative of the hard work we do and most people are here to make a positive difference in the world  through helping people in need.
