Pros: It's good for a first job. You can get hired without any previous experience. You'll learn a lot of useful customer service skills that you can use for future jobs. Working at Laura Secord will teach you how to handle long lines, work quickly while under pressure, and work harmoniously with your coworkers. The stores are usually pretty small and there aren't many employees, so you learn to get along with everyone. My co-workers were the reason why I stayed for so long. Aside from that, the customers were usually very nice. There was always something to do and you would never get bored.

Cons: There isn't much room for advancement or a raise. The manager at this location had favorites and if you weren't one of them, she would give you little to no hours and could be very cold/passive-aggressive towards you. We were almost never paid for overtime and weren't allowed to have tips. The regional managers could be extremely harsh and imposed really strange, and sometimes useless rules. The training is only three hours long, which is not at all enough to learn everything. It was a "watch-and-learn" type of training, and you would get scolded if you didn't know how to do something, even if you were never taught how to do it. 

Overall, I enjoyed my time there, but I would definitely not go back.

I managed 2 stores so my days were spent travelling between these outlets.  Most days were pretty laid back and because of what we sold there were not many complaints or problem customers.  Holidays would and could boost up to 80 or 90% in a very short period of time so we always had to plan ahead and make sure we had sufficient stock and staff to be able to meet customer expectations.  There really wasn't too much that I could complain about in this position other than it was pretty busy travelling as much as I did between the 2 stores and it was not always easy to recruit stable staff on the part-time hours that were available so I ended up covering many extra shifts myself.  Obviously the most enjoyable part of this job was having to maintain freshness with all of our stock which meant regularly tasting and sampling the chocolate. Management was very good and kept store managers and staff up-to-date on any new changes within the company and regularly held meetings to touch base and take suggestions from both management and staff.

This may be an okay first time job, I enjoyed the medium paced environment,  stocking & making gift baskets was fun. Other than that, they take advantage of you, make you work long hours. Management wasn't very professional, treating their employees like less than human trash. We were not given breaks at the Hazeldean location, so I lost 50+lbs because I had no time to eat. I was supposed to be part time, but was working over 40 hours a week. And the district manager literally fired someone just because they didn't like their face (and for making 1 slight mistake during literal training). Training was only 1 shift by a barely trained employee, so don't expect to be properly trained on cash, which you'll eventually be fired for. (Could just be my experience though) It was a decent job besides those things, and besides the stress overload, if they treated their employees better, it would've been a great place to work!

Positive and energetic work environment. As a keyholder my responsibilities include opening/closing procedures. Learning procedures for ordering products. Maintaining a clean store and creative merchandising is productive and exciting. We are a team of customer focused individuals and are each considerate to provide a happy, safe, no negativity atmosphere for each other. We take on a hands on attitude when it comes to job sharing. I love to interact with the customer and am very passionate in sales. Determining their needs and seeing them leave with a quality product and a smile assures me of repeat sales and new customers through word of mouth comments about the sales relationship I develop with each customerl. It's a win win situation!

A typical day at work involves serving many happy customers ice cream and chocolate products that Laura Secord has to offer. 

Ive learned great customer service skills, how to deal with people and management skills earning my place as a key holder. 

Management is extremely good at Laura Secord. Stuff is organized and everything is dealt with in a comfortable and friendly manner. 

My co-workers are extremely friendly and very easy-going. Everyone is likeable and it makes for a good environment to work in. 

Hardest part of the job is sometimes dealing with people who do not want to be professional, and maintaining your composure while dealing with them. 

Overall the most enjoyable part of the job is dealing with amazing management and staff who make you look forward to coming to work.

A typical day at work would include a variety of the following activities: cleaning, completing debit/cash transactions, assist customers with product knowledge and product placement, assembling gift baskets and packaging, stocking items, banking and deposits, scooping ice cream and much more!  I learned a lot about product placement and presentation, the management was not an issue I found they were understanding and worked with their employees to work around any scheduling issues or workplace inquires in general. The hardest part of the job was probably just trying to find something to do in the dead hours because I'm a person that likes to work in very fast-paced environments but the most enjoyable part was getting to interact with customers and have more responsibility in product showcase:)

What a disorganized mess my time at LS was. Most of my coworkers were fine but any concerns or questions to head office seemed to fall on deaf ears. The store was understaffed for the majority of my time there, including the manager being on a medical leave, and I had to beg for approval for a new hire during out Easter rush. Had to constantly ask for more labour hours to adequately schedule shifts as head office didn't understand our province's laws regarding breaks were different than theirs and the hours they allotted me would leave the store unattended. Both of our cash registers were constantly breaking during shifts and on one occasion the technician I called failed to show up. Just felt like I was constantly voicing urgent concerns that no one was interested fixing.

Management sucked we went though 4 manager in 6 months. They take away bonuses and key holder positions without any warning or even letting you know.
The would hire on a ton of people and then tell everyone to suck it up if you don't get the hours you need and when they hire you on as full time you're not actually full time. As well they do not care about their employees safety nor do the managers respect people breaks, you are experienced to stop your break mid way through because there's suddenly 4 customers in the store or because the management isn't properly trained, they don't even train people at all in the store 

This was the longest and best job I worked. I learned much about the workplace, as this was also my first management role at the age of 17. I worked here for nearly four years, and watched the company grow and change many times. Management was thorough in their explanations and their task dispense, they made sure we always understood what was going on. I learned to deal with these changes comfortably, and accept and work with them. My co workers were fabulous, and wonderful people. I made many friends from this job and still see them often to this day. There wasn't really anything hard about the job that I can remember, I enjoyed 100% of my work. Even the cleaning.

I worked there for 10 years, not very much advancement opportunities and even in management position, they expect too much for little money. Often when you work during the day, you work alone in the store, a lot of customers, no time for a sitting break and no time to eat, it’s unhealthy for your health and motivation! The supervisors are really criticized employees, we were never good enough. No uniform provided and they ask to be top notch! Customers are nice and that’s the only reason I staid so long. Each time that I tried to have a full time position, they prefer young people and I am only 45.
