Working at Lucas Tree Experts was an experience all in its self. from being new or to a seasoned tree care worker one would take away from Lucas tree on how to not manage a company.

Cutting cost comes at the expense of the employee and their family 

paid only 4 day per diem used to be 5 days.

managements response to taking away money is it was for working 5 days away from the family and to pay for your food. ( I'm sorry I already have a family to tell me how to spend money)


management does not see that per diem means per day and that the employees eat on Fridays but to cut cost they should not be eating Fridays.

no incentive to move forward or advance yourself.

so out of touch with the employees was surprised to see that management actually knew a name. 

above all of the poor company management, the supervisor down to the ground labours are fantastic people and are the ones that keep the wheels rolling something Lucas tree management fails to see.

very unprofessional in regards to letting employees go, seeing how they can let someone go right in front of another coworker who is not a supervisor, HR, or any other important management. 

Fear tactics for asking questions is a real thing in Lucas and if you ask questions regarding the future with the company take note you will be let go. 

they expect new hires to not have a voice.

at the end of the day the wage was ok, the benefits were basic, some people were kept just to hit the utility company with a bigger bill, and all the others were great people and hard workers.

the work place culture like anything would be attitude reflects leadership and unfortunately with no leadership from management, the employees are left to fend for them selves.

if management stayed away from home 5 days a week and got a sense of what the fantastic employees are doing then maybe they would understand but again this is a case of management thinking they are better and know best for the employees who sacrifice everything for Lucas.

I have worked for Lucas Trees for some time and can honestly say it is a great place to work.  Lucas Trees prides itself on safety.  They are current and up to date with rules and regulations, their safety program is top notch.  If there are times when it is necessary for you to work away, your accommodations are set up for you so you have no worries about where you will lay your head at the end of the day.  You are paid a daily food allowance when you do work away, you may have to pack your lunch for one day but where is the hardship in that?  

There is room for advancement if you are ready, willing and able to work.  I started out at the bottom and am now foreman.  Lucas Trees helped me to get my air brake license.  Any out of pocket expenses were reimbursed to me in a timely fashion.  

Management is very attentive to your needs.  If you have something you need to discuss with a supervisor someone is usually available to talk to you and if they aren’t, they call you back in short order.

The company offers medical benefits which compare to many other companies.  Remember, there are many companies that don’t offer benefits at all!

Yes, we do work long hours, the work is demanding and when it storms we are on the job for as long as we are needed but if you are not scared of hard work, want a job that pays well, has incentives and offers you plenty of opportunities to advance in the company and the opportunity to work with a great bunch of men from ground crew right up to management then Lucas Trees is definitely the place for you!

I have been with the company for a few years and I enjoy working for them.  The work itself is challenging but it is fun.  You get to work outdoors and with a group of good guys.  Work can get tough when the weather is bad.  Storm work is rewarding and you get paid OT when your needed.   Pay is good.  Lucas pays a lot higher than most tree companies in Nova Scotia.    Lots of opportunities to get promoted.   I started out as a Laborer and now working as a Foreman making over $20/hr.  Lucas has a very good safety program which I like a lot.  The company does care that you go home at the end of the day.  Management pushes you hard, but that can be expected.  They are fair and do listen to your concerns and try to fix any problems you may have. They treat you very well when you have personal/family issues that you need to deal with.   They are very supportive and caring during this time. Supervisors are great as well as most of the field guys that you work with.   It seems like the ones complaining on line are the ones who have been fired. Most of them for good reasons.     Overall, good company.

Just a warning this company is a bare minimum company. By that I mean they pinch every penny they can possibly take from you. Just recently they started paying us 4 meals on the road working 5 days which now cost me money out of my own pocket. They expect you pay for stuff like highway tolls and training expenses out of your own pocket and you have to expense it and fight forever to see the money back. No boot allowance at all but they will lend you the money and take it off your paychecks until paid off. The safety equipment they di provide barely does the trick and is very uncomfortable forcing you to buy your own gear. Very minimum holidays off. Wages could be a bit better but aren't really that bad. Most the employees you work with from the supervisors down to the labourer are great to work with besides the couple lazy ones the company hangs onto to overcharge the utilities company for. The bucket trucks and other equipment like mowers, skidders, and pick up trucks are the US's hand me downs and spend more time in the shop the in a work site.

I enjoy working for this company.  Owners and Safety Director care about your well being.    Manager does listen to your concerns and quickly resolves any issues you have. Manager has high expectations, but is fair.   Supervisors are great to work with.  They help you and take care of issues quickly.   Co-workers are great.  Everyone looks out for each other.  What I like best about this company is their safety culture.   Company gives everyone a chance to succeed.  If you work hard, have a great attitude and can work well with others then you will succeed.   There are advancements and pay increases when you do.    Started out as a laborer making $15.00/hr and now I am a Foreman making over $20.00/hr.   Work is hard (especially when the weather is bad), but you are outdoors all day and the work is rewarding.  Storm work is fun and very rewarding.  You get paid OT when working storms.  Company has good benefits.  Good place to make a career of it.   Full time work, up to 45 hours per week and OT during emergency storm situations.

I have just started working with Lucas,Tree within the last year.  I enjoy the outside work.  There are lots of chances to advance and make more money.   My co-workers are great to work with.  My supervisor is always around and helpful.   The Safety Trainer is always providing special training.   Management stops out to visit and check on us.   Safety is important with this company which I really like    .   I would recommend this company so far.

I like my job. I got $10 in raises in 2 years.  It is very hard work. Outdoors in all weather rain sun snow heat and cold. Lots of local work. Home most of  the year. Overtime on storm. Storm can be long hours but extra money made. Equipment is newer. Supervisor is nice and easy to get hold of. Benefits could be better. Some coworkers are lazy but most are really good. It’s a decent  job 

Although the job is physically demanding, the work is enjoyable for those who like being outdoors.   Job Security is high as trees never stop growing and people want their power.  Lucas Tree has a strong focus on Safety and I always feel that they care about me both on and off the job site.

As a former employee I'm going to say if you're interested in tree work you may want to look into other tree companies.or maby choose a different professional career as a ut2 I can say this was the worst decision I ever made!
Some people like working here some don't.....I didn't....

Great Company, Great coworkers, loved working there it just got to physically difficult for me. but the managers are great and extremally helpful aswell as the owners there very friendly and understanding
