MACKENZIE PULP MILL

Originally I worked in production.  Production isn't bad, but it comes with the usual industrial issues like lack of maintenance and payroll errors.  Always track your overtime.

After going to the staff / management side, things were drastically different.  Throughout my employment, the environment became increasingly cutthroat, and management pressures increased constantly.  Some of the people in charge are not to be trusted, and it's not uncommon for staff members to have more than one job for the same salary.  It was also periodically common for chemical gasses to impede on the office areas.

Worst mill probably ever. The condition of this old mill is scary, the positions the operators and trades people are put in to keep this place running are ridiculous and highly unsafe 90% of the time. No recognition for anything. Some people do 100% nothing and others 100% of everything. But both parties are treated the same,brings moral and drive down when hard workers dont get any recognition.

typical day - very busy from start of day to end - multitasking 
learn something new everyday , ie , mechanical equipment, parts and and their workings also learing that everything can be fixed with team work and a good attitude 
management -friendly , approachable 
work place culture- fantastic people , feels like family 
hardest part of the job- incredible pressures , constant changes, added work loads
most enjoyable part of the job- working with my teammates - family atmosphere and learing new things - and meeting new people

The company provides decent wages and benefits for the kind of work and the fact that you only need a high school education. Union workplace means seniority is the rule and advancement to better positions comes from seniority but there is a lot of turnover meaning you advance quickly. Management ostensibly cares about safety, but production usually comes first. 

I would recommend people to work here if it's running, but unfortunately it's curtailed for the foreseeable future. Union jobs are better paying but come with Shift work for most departments. Staff jobs have more regular schedules but the pay and the benefit packages are significantly lower than the union.

I came to Mackenize to work specifically in the pulp industry. Worked for contractor outside mill and Superviser was drunk 80% of the time and mill management knew about it🙄

High turn over for both union and staff. No safety or enviromental standards. No money spent on training or maintenace. Cannot keep people because of poor treatment from management.

My time at the mill has been very rewarding and busy. I go to work and start my day off by talking to my employees and the tasks at hand we need to accomplish for the day. There are many aspects that keep me on my toes and that is what I thrive on to better myself.

its a good place to work if you do not desire purpose in the work you choose to do. Very thankless. It pays amazing and affords lots of time off.

Awesome people to work with, management a little unorganized, language barrier hard to understand simple instructions on some supervisors because of enthnic backgrounds
