MARINELAND OF CANADA INC.

A typical day at work as a ride operator is helping guests onto the ride, making sure they are safe, and having fun.
I've learned alot about different cultures, and about different kinds of people. I have learned how to accomodate without breaking company rules, and keeping guests content and the environment fun.
The management at Marineland is great for taking care of us, however they cannot be with us at all times, and we have to be independant and be able to problem solve without our manager.
The hardest part of the job is the misunderstandings we have among guests, where they might not understand that safety is more important then having fun on the ride. While having fun is important, the fun cannot be there if your life is at risk. However I handle the situations calmly and quickly to resolve the situations.
The most enjoyable part of the job is definitely the fact that everyone that visits is there to have fun, so immediately their mood is enhanced, and in turn yours.

Worked here in 2016. Some nice coworkers but a lot of them are  50+ years old. The job itself isn’t too too bad but the rides are older and worn down and seem to always need repairs while on shift which takes time and gets customers mad. You’re outside in the heat but can’t complain because summer is always hot and muggy. When I worked there I got 25 hours weekly and so did everyone else but before summer started in June and July I got 40 hours weekly. Management were nice people but bad management when on shift, one of the supervisors and I got into an argument in-front of the public and thought that was highly unprofessional. When you get written up here they don’t tell you or get you to sign something, they will throw it in your face later and fire you like they did me. I got wrongfully dismissed but was within my 3 months probation so the Labour Board couldn’t do anything. I wouldn’t work here again even under different management. Stay away folks!

A typical day at Marineland for me meant preparing food for the whales, feeding the whales, playing with the whales and maintaining overall care for them. Tending to guests questions was also a part of the job as it is a very educational environment. 

I learned how to prepare fish in a sterile environment, I also learned what it takes to care for marine mammals and how much hard work and dedication goes into it . 

Hardest part of the job would be dealing with unwanted comments from guests about animal cruelty. I dealt with it in a polite manner mostly by just assuring them that I do my best to make sure the animals are well taken care of and I loved them as if they were my own 

on the odd occasion I had to refer a guest to my head trainer.

Most enjoyable part of the job was getting to be one on one with these beautiful animals in which I took pride in caring for.

A typical day at Marineland would be going in at 7am and we would start by picking all the garbage up in the parking lot and changing the garbage cans in the parking lot. After the clean up we set up the proper people at there designated locations to start parking the cars we will start by the main gate and move down and fill the first lot then move to the other side and if it is a busy day and we need more parking we go into overflow which is more parking in the back. I learned how to deal with upset people and how to keep the cars flowing nicely. The management is ok. My co-workers are great people they make it fun to work there and make the long days go by faster. The hardest part is that it does get hot and boring at times when it is not busy. The most enjoyable part is being outside and being with friends.

I was feeding the Land Animals on a daily basis.  With ZERO guidance, I was left to work in a dirty environment.  I had to bring in my own hand soap, work gloves, knives, and anything else to make my job easier or SAFER.  Being understaffed we did not always have time to ensure clean water for the animals, plus the rule of thumb is to underfeed as there is less cleaning.  The DEER, all I can say is WOW! someone needs to get more involved with the lack of animal control, just non-stop breeding and inbreeding of the animals, they have ZERO clues how many they have.  I have seen animals die, be born, and no changes.  Believe the bad press, I tried my best to ignore it but could not do it in the end.  For my own mental health, I had to move on.

There is a huge lack of consistency with training. Lots of different opinions even after I asked for clarification. I would get yelled at for making a mistake but when other employees did the same thing, they had zero repercussions. Senior trainers seem to pick favourites. After having a severe allergic reaction and having to go to the hospital, I came back to work about 4 days later to have a senior trainer comment on how I look nothing like the photo I sent him… that photo I sent was taken during my reaction 4 days prior, so I’m not sure what he expected me to look like. More importantly, how incredibly inappropriate to say that and insinuate that I was lying. If you get on their good side I’m sure you will have a better experience but I never did anything bad to deserve that treatment. Like I said, senior trainers pick favourites. 

The work in Land Animal Care was hard, dangerous, and psychologically stressful. Get paid minimum wadge while animals often trying to cause fatal harm. During mating season animals engage in bloody battles and must 'clean up' afterwords and sometimes told to break up the fights which ends in being chased by said animals. All the stress is balanced out by the incredible break room accommodation. There is a locker room, change room with shower, bathroom, living room/lounge (couches, lazy boy, coffee tables, stereo system), and even a kitchen with fridge, stove, and coffee maker.

I had lots of fun working here, and I made sure to work hard if it was raking, cutting the endless amount of grass, trimming trees, blowing up a mountain of inflatables, removing sticks and obstacles and general cleaning of the park. I so enjoyed being able to work outdoors and absorb good amounts of sun everyday with my coworkers that made my time much more eventful and fun. On many occasions I had to speak french to all the Quebecois that came down to visit and needed directions or some information, but overall not too much exposure to people, so you can enjoy the work without being distracted.

A typical day at work as Food Counter Attendant with a whole summer experience in food service industry. Well versed in taking food orders and preparing food items. Cleaning and sanitizing work area. I've learned to be an excellent communicator. I care about the words that I use and about avoiding uncertainty when i communicate. I am not afraid to follow up with someone who's a senior to me when I do not understand them. I take time to imagine how different people might interpret questions or statements.

This is a great summer job for anyone. The job itself is very fun (you get to work at an amusement park), but can be a little physically demanding (on your feet for most of the day). Most days, you go without even seeing management because the park is so big so there is a very laid back work culture. You also get to interact with customers all day, which for me, was the best part of the job. The one complaint would be that the job is extremely boring when the park is not busy. There were some days where I would work an 8 hour shift and have to operate my ride less than 10 times. Suggest brining a good book to read for those days!
